This should explain why a lot of people hate him.

That's my theory of why Vega gets so much hate, I quite liked him, wish there were actual conversations with him and the other crew members though.

Vega turned out to be a bro, haters hated him cause of his looks and never gave him a chance after reading all the hater threads on Vega.
Garrus and Vega = Bro squad.
This exactly.
I wish we had Vega in ME2 too instead of Jacob

To be honest, when I saw the character at first glance I thought he
would be lame but when I started playing with him, his delivery began to
grow on me. He is much more than just a meathead as I've read on these
forums. His delivery of his little quirps, and his yes's and no's were
quite entertaining. I thought he was a good addition to the game, he
was JUST a grunt, not someone with a rough past and/or a leader/high
ranking member of a prior organization/gang (atleast from what I
gathered from the game) or a briliiant scientist with philosophical
knowledge so his dialogue was natural to me.
As a character he was good, like you I thought he was funny (he conversation with Javik in the Kitchen was hilarious).
The problem I have though is that he is the Krogan replacement... They gave him a Krogan's power set and even tried to make his build resemble a Krogan. If they had him there with a Krogan squadmate, I'd have no problem with him.
Having no Krogan squadmate is a crime but to replace a Krogan with another Human is an even bigger crime.

I think my Shepherd needed a bit of being treated like a human, instead of a legend. I know others did that as well, (GARRUS) but the whole team was a bit tired after all they had done in the past and doubting themselves.

And I laughed at all of the MST3K Space Mutiny references on these boards because of him.

Pretty much agree. I also didn't think much of him when he was announced, but it didn't take long for me to warm to the guy. Quite humerous, and more relatable.Pissed0ff wrote...

It's a shame a lot of his dialogue didn't involve you engaging with him like you did with characters in 1 and 2. In fact, that goes the same with most characters, but James was probably the worst offender. Still, as I say, he was sound, and he did have many funny moments with Cortez and Garrus (especially the latter).
He was an awesome squadmate to take into battle, too. His 'nade and Carnage abilities were great compliments to Liara's Biotics, and my stealthiness.

That said, I usually get more interesting comments from my older squadmates.

I liked his character. I think he is just getting the shaft from the "loyalists" of ME because they would have rather seen Thane, Jack, Grunt, Miranda, etc. on board instead. I thought he added a good lighthearted element to the squad when all the other characters have been carrying these huge burdens on their backs for so long.
I also think he's improperly compared to Jacob. Jacob was much more bland than James, and I think James' dialogue is wittier and paints a better picture of his character. He is also a very good squadmate, unlike Jacob who I thought pretty much every character surpassed him on the battlefield.
