I finally got my first Krogan (the soldier) with only two characters left to unlock.  He's called Angry Bob, the other characters have more sensible names, and for some reason I have to give characters new names after promotion.

Do you mean that their names are wiped and you have to re-input them (either the same name or a new one), or that you have to come up with all new names - i.e. the game won't let you re-use the previous names?


Please, NOT the latter. I want to promote some during the N7 Weekend, but not if it means not being able to re-use the same character names.

My human soldier is named "Soldier". My Turian soldier is named "TSoldier". My human adept is named "Adept". My Drell adept is named "DAdept."

No you're fine, I meant I have an obsessive need to give them different names because the old character has been "promoted" therefore the new ones must be different people so I feel that I should give them different names.  Sorry to have caused you any worry!

Y'know, at one point I was thinking of taking that approach, but frankly, I'm far too attached to most of them to replace them with new characters.

For starters, one's my 'author self-insertion character' - the pistols-only Infiltrator, 'Ghost'. Figured it'd be cool to have someone in the ME universe who's a private investigator/secret agent type, rather than a full-blown soldier.

But even the rest have taken on backstories and the like, simply while I was trying to find a rationale for the colour scheme choices and so forth. Examples: Severus is C-Sec-trained (simply because he's decked out in dark grey and blue armour), while Ramirez is currently ICT-ranked as 'N6' and thus sports Onyx-patterned armour with field command stripes, but without the 'N7' insignia.


That, to me, is the beauty of Mass Effect's multiplayer - because we're already invested in the universe, it's not just some arcade game where it's all about running around scoring points. It's a chance to view the ME setting from a fresh perspective, and perhaps even dabble in adding to the grand scheme of things.

Call signs. I keep a list of ones I've promoted so new ones get new callsigns. Brains, Sparks, Laser, Talon, Fist, Huntress, Deadeye, Smash, Lion, Hawk, Warlock, Wizard etc.

Let's see, my male humans were named: Robert, Franklin, Martin, Samuel, Stephen...
While female humans were named: Roberta, Francesca, Martina, Samantha, Stephanie...

I'm sure you see the pattern.

Although I was slightly more creative with my Krogan Sentinel and Soldier. Sentinel is Tanky Tankborn and Soldier is Fisty McFist.
