I get it, you want a weapon for each situation. Yeah an SMG with ultralight materials will be easier to carry.

But honestly, how many weapons do you even need as a nuker? I don't recall having to actually shoot anything so far. I did a couple of times for fun. Nothing I couldn't have handled with a shotgun (particularly with the smart choke mod).

As far as I'm concerned, it's a style thing. If you like shotguns (and I do), the Wraith offers the most firepower per weight in that category. As a nuker, I don't need to carry tons of different weapons.

Had I gone for a distraction type build with drones/turret, I would still have been fine with a shotgun and maybe a pistol or SMG. There's enough ammo, and because of all the distractions, there's no problem getting close enough.

Oh, totally, it is a style thing. That was what I was trying to explain in the post. I think the basic thing I found was that I typically like to start combat by sniping, then move to closer range as the battle goes on. Hence the Viper for long range switching to the Particle Rifle for short range. It's just when I get close that I'm looking for something to fill that role and, ordinarily, a shotgun would be perfect.

Like I said, I'm finding the Paladin/Tempest combo to be a lot more weight efficient - plus the look better :P

Don't they both weigh more than the Wraith? They are certainly not lighter, and you are carrying both of them. Seems to me that the Viper is more redundant than the Wraith would be in that combo.

They do weigh more, the problem is I like to be flexible and to hang back at the start, thin the herd with it. I think, at the end of the day, long range can only really be done properly with sniper rifles thanks to the concentration mods etc, but short range can be done with anything that spits out lots of damage :D

You're right though, its a style thing. A scoped Paladin would be all I technically need :P

This thread makes me want to do a Drone + Turret + Drone + Wraith Engineer playthrough.

The disciple is light, fairly accurate, and deals respectable damage. It fires quickly and staggers often. It's a good option for 200% power recharge if you don't want to use a pistol.

I hear the wraith is... meh.

The Wraith is my gun. Its a pocket Claymore. If one wants a gun the can potentially give u the one shot drop, yet doesn't way a ton, the Wraith is that gun. The Disciple isn't bad, just doesn't do much damage, and honestly the Wraith staggers about just as reliably as the Disciple.

I really like the Wraith.

I use it with my infiltrator class. Black Widow for most enemies, and if anyone gets too close bring out the Wraith. Its surprisingly light for a shotgun, so cooldowns aren't affected too much, and it meant that I didn't need to max out my melee damage for when enemies got too close. Works a treat on insanity.

I haven't tried an engineer with a shotgun yet. The engineer works best for me when I hang back, but I might give it a go.

I think thats where some of the confusion comes from. People say its 'light for a shotgun', but realistically, I'd say its normal weight. It doesn't appear to be any lighter than other shotguns of similar sizes - its only light in comparison to heavy weapons like the Graal and the Claymore.

The disciple.... now *that* is a light shotgun. Light as in being similar weight to an unmodified SMG.

The Wraith is IMO the perfect caster shotgun. It weights very little and still packs a punch. Add the smart choke mod and it works at midrange.

I don't know this without checking, but I'm willing to bet a fully upgraded Wraith won't hurt your cooldowns much if at all.

It really doesn't, I can pack a wraith X and an avenger X and still get 200%. I personally go for Avenger and Scorpion, love that little guy.

Its light for its damage.
