I'm really wondering about Alistair's fate, particularily because of this. From what I can gather by reading through all of them is that it might not be a foregone conclusion that he'll die, but I'm not positive. If not, what would you have to do in order to prevent it? Is it something really awful? I'm thinking the answer might lie in Morrigan's offer, but it sounds kind of... hard core.
Does anyone have any further information to keep me from worrying? I'd have a hard time playing if I had to participate in ritualistic fetus murder in order to keep my love interest alive.

I'll be so mad (or at least unhappy) if the only way to prevent Alistair (or whoever deals the final blow to the archdemon) from dying is to accept Morrigan's offer.

If you don't do Morrigan's ritual, then one Grey Warden must die to stop the Archdemon. I believe that either the PC or Riordan can make the sacrifice in Alistair's place.

Hmm... it does say further down that "Riordan took on the archdemon himself" - does that mean he failed?

Morrigan's ritual: "On the eve of battle with the archdemon, she made an offer to the Wardens: Sire a child with her, and she could use it to capture the archdemon's soul at the moment of death, saving the Warden who struck the killing blow."

Grrr, this forum is being a pain. I think there's more people on here than the server can handle.

Not sure; I'm working from snippets.  Maybe you have to talk Riordan out of that attack so he's still alive for the final showdown?  Or maybe Riordan's survival depends on other choices (a divide your forces kind of thing, perhaps)?

I'm not liking what I'm reading.

It smells like that Mass Effect "deep choice" about sacrifice. This too feels forced and contrieved.

From what I gather from reading it there is a way for Alastair to survive the battle with the Archdemon

It seems Morrigan lives if you reject her ritual. Though I assume accepting it will have negative effects on other party members. Choices, Choices.

Fable 2 had some lame assed choices in the end.

But I'm trying not to read too much into things until I start playing.

From what I've been reading on other theads, Alistair can do the ritual, you have to convince him to do it (easier if he changed during his personal quest). If you are female, you also can convince him that his doing it will not bother you, it's for a "greater" purpose. You can also sleep with her if you are male. If you spare Tir Loghain, he becomes a Grey Warden and I wonder if he can sleep with her. You will lose Alistair if you save Loghain however, but Alistair will not die.

Loghain can sleep with Morrigan I'm told. Allister can sleep with her too and if your male you can also. I dont get people's issue with it. Its to save your life and his. Gods people can be so selfish about it all. ONE night. Thats it. Then Morrigan is gone forever and no one has to die.

It is no affect whatsoever on other party members. You can tell Allister about it somewhat but he doesnt judge you. (If your male I mean.) Lelianna never found out I did it and it never even came up. Besides I've seen her talk before about making choices that would save lives. I think she'd be hurt but could be convinced you did it to save lives and all. *shrug*

Nope unfortuneatly, it can't be Riordan...he wounds the archdemon, but wont be around in the final battle. If you are in a relationship with Alistair, and take him to the final battle he will not allow you to sacrifice yourself...meaning he dies. If you leave him at the front gate, then you die. If you take Morrigans offer, then neither of you die and you can have a "happy ever after"

Wheither you sleep with her or not, the party members are oblivious. If you are a male and sleep with her...no one, not even Alistair is aware of it. If you are a female PC and have Alistair do it...only alistair is aware of it.

There is no way to avoid the ritual if you want your PC or Alistair live.

1) Loghain can die on archedemon but you will loose Alistair, he will removed from party.

2) Morrigan say NO to Riordan

3) Riordan fail at killing archedemon

4) PC don't take Alistair in his group at Denerin (last battle) > Alistair live but PC die.

If you have enough Persuasion, you can convince Anora to spare Alistair's life.

Riordan dies, no matter what choices you make. Morrigan doesn't want him because he's had the taint for too long.

The absolute only way to have both femPC and Alistair live(without Alistair doing the ritual) is to have Loghain do the ritual or have him kill the archdemon. In order to go this route, you have to make Loghain a Grey Warden. By making Loghain a Grey Warden, several things will happen to Alistair. He will either rule by himself(only if hardened), be executed at Anora's insistence or he will rule with Anora. Alternatively, you can use your boon to get Anora to not execute him. Regardless of which option you choose, Alistair will leave the party permanently and you will only see him after the landsmeet or post-coronation(or never again if you let Anora execute him). Your romantic relationship with him with also end permanently.

Otherwise, he has to do the ritual, no exceptions.
Like Narcissa said, if you do it as a male, you and Morrigan are the only ones who know about it. If Alistair or Loghain does it, you/Morrigan and either Loghain or Alistair are the only ones who know about it. The rest of the party/kingdom knows jack.

As Oni said, people need to stop being so selfish about something so utterly insignificant, it's one night so that you both can live, especially seeing as your character is the one to bring it up to him in the first place. Nor does he even really enjoy it, the grimace on his face is hilarious.
If you jumped into a Bioware game not expecting a choice like this, then you are either incredibly naive or new to Bioware games.

Let's talk again about it when you come back from Irak, cheat on girlfriend just before you warn her about what you're going to do and don't forget to mention it's for your survival, let's see if she gonna be home when you come back ^_^
