i had legion with my dwarfs and i didn't donate a single gem, so probably not.

i donated quite a few runes, and when i called the mages, they kept blowing my guys to pieces with fireballs.... grr

I think you get the legion dwarfs depends hw you speak to them when you meet them and after you made a king in the dwarfen city

It would be nice if someone could figure out what minimum donation is needed for an upgrade. I don't like how you have to put *all* your elfroot into the elven box.

There're definitely level benefits to donating to the liasons. The Fort Drakon courtyard fight, on my first playthrough, I'd hardly donated anything and summoned the Dwarves in. They were really weak and wearing studded leather gear, I must have lost about 30 of them in that one fight.

The second playthrough I donated a crap load of low level gems to them; this time they were wearing what looked to be veridium heavy chainmail and they buzzsawed their way through every encounter. I don't think more than 5 of them died on that playthrough and I used them for every part of Denerim.

If you talk to the Tranquil guy at Ostagar, he tells you why runes are important.  Basically, runes can not only enchant weapons, but can also be used to make magic staffs.  They basically enable the folding of lyrium.

I had never spoken to him. That explains some things then

i think the legion being in your drawvern troops is a storyline related event if you choose to convince the legion of dead dwarf to fight topside after picking a king for dwarves.

yeah correct about that that guy, can't remember his name, will be right outside the council chamber only once after you choose a king if your a dwarf all you have to do is talk to him, nay other race you have to persuade him and his legionnaire buddies to come to the surface, he'll even fight in the final battle against the archdemon, but yeah originalSabZero said it'd be nice the ration of donations to upgrade, as i donated like 90 gold to redcliffe and i had no armoured knights just super tough soldiers with silverite equipment
