Something along these lines would've been glorious and worthy of a sequel.  You know... when you take a wildly popular element from a previous title and improve upon it.

Right?? Pass that idea off to EA/Bioware.

HEY GUYS. SUICIDE MISSION MECHANICS= GOOD, NOT BAD! No need to pull a "Bioware" and can it because you think it's bad!

I was hoping they would implement something like this.

Great post OP. This would have made the final mission awesome. As it stands, I thought the final mission was fairly forgettable, when it should have been the most intense part, building up to an epic ending... Then again, the ending we got was the lowest point of the entire series, so I guess maybe the blandness of the final level was intentional.

Haha, thank you.

That's what so incredibly frustrating about those final 5 minutes. They completely overshadow EVERYTHING, when Mass Effect 3 has so much room for improvement elsewhere...starting with the mission leading UP to those final 5 minutes.

It's like Bioware was creating ME3, then the deadline was tomorrow, and they hadn't even started on the final mission yet. Woops. "GIVE US 4 MONTHS, EA, WE'LL GET IT DONE. Thanks :)"

That is AWESOME, but it wouldn't change the fact the ending is just... non acceptable.
But it would make ME3's experience much better.
Nice job op!
What about including some ME2 implications as well, such as Garrus is well succeed leading mercenarie groups if Sidonis was spared for example? (I really missed something about Sidonis being said)

very good idea OP, just a few things though, Mordin is dead so he cant be a leader, feron dies if you didnt download liar of the shadow broker, and a little too much math.

Maybe a simpler pass/fail depending on your decision would be better.

Since the suicide mission is my favourite 'level' of any video game of all time...

Hell, yes! Why did we not have this? So angry, yet so happy that other fans can see this at the same time.

This would be cool, except I imagine there's no in-game way of telling which fleets and groups are better for which jobs. Would it just be a random guessing game?

Actually, you can have Mordin survive in ME3...at the cost of someone else. B)

I didn't know that Feron dies......hm. I might take him off that list then.

The math is actually supposed to be background information for Bioware, not stuff that we the players calculate. We're only presented with the choices, and have to make decisions based on our knowledge of them.

The math is actually the same mechanics that the "hold the line" segment ran on...average of 2 points to be successful.

BRILLIANT.

I'm currently looking for more story variables like this to encorporate into this idea. I like this one, will probably add it. Let me know if you guys come up with any more!

No. There's no salvaging for this ending.

Well, we'd get little information blurbs like the ones we got in ME2 for the Suicide Mission, however......

The choices would have to be based off of our knowledge of each race, each character, etc., and applied to basic logic. "The Krogan were demilitarized, so they're probably not the greatest space fighting support. I'll put them on the ground. Oh hey, the Quarian Flotilla is MASSIVE, and they're not the best footsoldiers! I'll put THEM in the space fight. Win win!"

And the pointages reflect that correct logical assumption. Krogan are the best army for Hammer Fleet (ground team), while the Quarians are one of the best armies for Sword and Shield Fleets (space teams).

An awesome topic OP, it would definitely make the last mission of mass effect 3 being the final battle the trilogy deserve.
I would have loved to have a speech with every leader of each army you managed to bring to war before heading down to battle, and then to have the opportunity to make some choices to turn the scale of the war.
Anyway, like all the ending, this part just felt rushed and wasted.
Let's hope that all this end, before the attack of the fleet, was just a big hallucination, and that Bioware will give us something like that as the final battle, as well as a respectable ending for the saga.

I like this, this would have made the final mission awesome!

Not fix the ending, mind you, but the mission would have been awesome. I like the point system, assuming we are never told these numbers just like in ME2. We weren't told how "likely" someone was to succeed, but reading from their profiles we could figure them out.

Garrus had team of vigilantes and led them successfully? Fire team leader, right there. Jack, most powerful human biotic ever or Samara, old and powerful Asari justicar? Barrier person right here. Same for tech specialist.

Sounds pretty good.
Just take out the Star Child and we're good.

Wait, endings are preserved in this, so I change my categorical "awesome" to "would be awesome when combined with better choices."

Still hat having the god child in it. Perhaps with what you wrote, which is phenomenal by the way, and some added clarification regarding god child, this would actually work.

Bioware. Listen to posts like the OP. this is what the fans want.

Dude, this is epic. BioWare is hiring writers, you might want to shoot them your resume and TEACH them how to properly end a game.

Something akin to the suicide mission (which was one of the best things I've ever seen in a game) is what I was hoping for from the Mass Effect 3 ending.

This is a great idea. Was kind of what I was expecting during my play through:

ME2 - gather allies, make them loyal/better, bring them to a Big Final Showdown and put them to use. Was awesome, epic, tragic when you asked somebody to do something they weren't capable of, but still it was your choice. Great re-playability. Awesome ending.

ME3 - Gather entire races/fleets as allies, make them better, bring them to a Big Final Showdown...
...
..and they don't do anything. You do some stuff, but all the improvements/ways to help out everybody didn't matter. Ending sucked. Re-playability terrible.

This would be tough to do though. I'm sad that it's likely too late for this. But if they had this going from the start, plus a 4th choice to not cooperate with the reapers, it would've likely been a perfect ending. Would be a great opportunity to interact with some favorite characters from ME2 that didn't get much playtime; by assigning them a team and an objective you'd feel connected to them again.

I LOVE this idea, but how do the smaller choices you made come into place?(Whether the biotic students were support or artillery, or how many of Aria's forces you got, etc.)

Oooh, all good points. I kinda forgot about the ME3 choices in these missions! I'll account for them in my next update on this idea.

Thanks for the support, guys! BIOWARE, PLEASE READ!
