All Infinity Engine games are amazing. There's probably at least one Infinity Engine game for everyone. If you love dungeon crawling and creating your own party from scratch, there's the Icewind Dale series. If you want a game that doesn't focus on combat, but has great characters and an amazing story (that doesn't involve saving the world), there's Planescape: Torment. The Baldur's Gate series combines great combat and storytelling, and is pretty much the definitive fantasy RPG series. Even after all these years, the 2nd Baldur's Gate game is still BioWare's masterpiece.

Once you've finished Planescape: Torment, you should try Mask of the Betrayer. It's an expansion for Neverwinter Nights 2, but it feels a lot like the spiritual successor to Torment and it's almost as good.

I'll also have to second Drakensang: River of Time. The first Drakensang wasn't that good, but River of Time is amazing. It's easily on par with Dragon Age.

New Vegas is another good one. Also throw on the original Deus Ex and Human Revolution.

Already have New Vegas. Neverwinter Nights 2? Hmm, is that available on any services like Steam/Origin? Last time I checked I didn't see them.

Ehm, you don't need Steam/Origin for that. You can buy it directly from Atari (boxed or digital download verion)

(20$) Platinum version with 2 expansion packs ( NWN2 + Mask of the Betrayer + Storm of Zephyr )
http://www.atari.com...ghts-2-platinum

or

(15$) Gold version (  NWN2 + Mask of the Betrayer )

Hmm... I might just do that, for now I'm pretty much set on the Witcher series. It's cheaper, and I can get the physical collectors edition for cheap at walmart. I will still buy those NW games, I'm gonna need some games for this summer. So do I actually need to play the Witcher 1 to be able to understand/enjoy the Witcher 2?

MotB is like, totally deep, man. There's gnolls that can kill your epic level characters, man. It's like, a brilliant reversal of a common D&D trope. Like the cranial rats in PS:T.

Really, who would want to find actual epic level enemies like dracoliches, beholders, devils, baalors and demi-gods like in Hordes of the Underdark?

That's what I love best about Obsidian -- they do games in settings without actually liking the settings, and they don't bother to hide it.

No, you don't need to have played The Witcher 1, but it does help. As for NWN2 on Steam, NWN2 Platinum.

Doing their job well .. focusing on story and choice/consequences. Already they're my most favorite developers.

That's great since I can only afford one right now and there is only 1 copy of the Witcher 2 left.

I really enjoyed Red Dead Redemption. Tons of fun, good story-driven open world, and the best ending of any game I've played in quite a while.

Love Wizardry.  Game holds the record for longest amount of time installed on my hard drive.

I'll suggest Alpha Protocol as well, majorly overlooked but it had a great story and and the choices you make in the game do have consequences that matter, the dialogue system was quite interesting as well as you can charm or antagonize peeople which can cause them to reveal or slip information depending on how they feel about you.

Throwing in for Alpha Protocol. The shooting mechanics are more in line with ME1 as the game is much more RPG than shooter, but if you take time to aim (I always go stealth and pistol) it is way fun to play. The way that every decision seems to impact the game is just awesome.

My most satisfying moment: Getting Conrad to stay and fight in Rome. :-)

But really, the game was blasted for not being like a shooter - it is more like an RPG with Shooter tacked on vs Shooter with RPG tacked on. Worth a try.

Heavy Rain. IF you don't mind playing something that's more like an interactive movie.

One of my favorite games :)

Alpha Protocol, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and of course The Witcher games. Special emphasis on the latter.

Which Witcher game is better? 1 or 2?

In my opinion, definitely the second. But the first one is great in its own right and I recommend it all the same.

I'm throwing in my lot with those who have recommended Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines. If you get the fan fix, it is in my humble opinion one of the best and most evocative narratives of all time. A wonderful departure from "epic quest" staple RPGs to save the world and a very original story about political manipulation in a truly wonderful setting and lore. The fact that it was push up to release against Half-Life 2 is one of the greatest tragedies of video game history, but Bloodlines is a fitting swan song for it's far too short lived developer

They're both fantastic really but if you plan on the first OP please look up the gameplay. Some people like the combat some people hate it also it runs pretty bad on modern hardware especially in Vizima's trade quarter. Witcher 2's engine is much better and runs really well.
