I'm a Ash fan, and i understand her dislike of turians especially given what happen in the first contact war.i can related to a real life story. my grandfather was a airmain in WWII. A Radio Operator in B-25s in the Pacifi. He to dying day hated the Japanese and it nothing that happen to him personally. but it was what japanese did to many of his fellow airmen. they executed many of them on capture. everytime i hear ash is story. i think of my gandfather. i think they really did well with her.

Again, RogueUnit, I have lost count of the multitude of times people have said 'I just hate the human squadmates, the aliens are so much cooler!'

That still doesn't justify all the hate Ashley gets compared to other human squadmates. Are you actuallly trying to say that people ONLY hate her because she is human. Please.

Everytime someone says they hate Ashley the words "racist", "bigot", "Horizon" and "annoying" come up, not "She a human!"

Nope, I'm saying that all the reasons people hate her are invalid, including the 'She's a human' one.

It never ceases to amaze me how Ashley is automatically labelled a racist for simply mistrusting aliens. But its okay for Tali and her people to commit genocide on the Geth a sentient species and no one bats an eye lmao.

Wait, people think the Ash hate is any, way shape or form based on her species instead of her personality?

They could have made her awesome, they chose to go a different route. I still think her character was put there specifically to make Liara the sane choice. And as for her saying, "Goddess this" and that, even athiest say "goddammit" and such as it's part of the language you hear every day. Never does Liara try to get you to pray with her or some crap like that.

You're invalid.

See?  I can make just as much sense as you.

For one I don't think Ashley is badly written or something. She's okay, but she's annoying "person". And her voice, GOD hate when women have that kind of voice. Example: when confronted with VS protecting Udina I talked Kaidan down and I wasn't angry at all. But if Ashley haven't been burned on Virmire like a bitсh she is, my Shep would shoot her with no mercy or regrets. I almost regret I don't have any saves with her alive.

And no, I don't care if she's "racist" or anything like that. Stupid, yes - who else would go in the military with her family history and then whine about how hard it is?

Also, she also religious.

Isn't it interesting how Ash's so-called "racist" assessment of the races in the galaxy in ME1 is pretty much born out in ME3, too? Without Shep there to wrangle them into working together and helping each other, they'd all be perfectly happy to take care of themselves while letting all the other races bear the brunt of the Reapers attacks. In other words, they think nothing of throwing their dogs at the bear to save themselves.

The only race that comes close to being helpful is the Turian, and by then, it's too late without receiving aid themselves. The asari and the salarians are perfectly content to withhold aid trying to get their way because they haven't been attacked yet. In fact, the asari hold out on sending aid until they start being decimated themselves.

So, is Ash racist (and it's not racism; it's really xenophobic) or realist?

ya I know, ash was right all along

the council races were prepared to let earth burn to buy them more time.

Ash is supposed to be a controversial character. It's just a lot more subtle, then say, a character like Jack. She's supposed to be the devil's advocate in many situations. Her past is also very sad, but many people just brush over it. They don't take into account the ridicule that she faced in the Alliance just because her last name was Williams. She had a chip on her shoulder throughout the whole series. That's why the standoff with Shepard happened at the Citadel. She was trying to prove herself. How bad would've it been if she was right and Shepard killed the Council. Her family name would've been spit on even more.

But still...the distrust is annoying since, you know, I saved her life TWICE.

Neither does Ash get you to try to pray with her. She just mentions that she believes in God. If you agree with her, she says an extra two lines on the subject and never mentions it again. Next point?

Then you have no claim that people hate her merely because shes human. She is a terrible and annoying character and that's why people hate her.

When you can dig up a post of every Ash hater saying "I hate her because she is a human" then we'll talk.

Hehe...you have a very strange way of debating.  You ignore the fact that folks on here DO hate them because they are human....or that the reasons they state could be applied to almost any character in the game, instead you try and close an opinion by saying I need to prove that EVERYONE that dislikes them does so because they are human or my statement is invalid.  That's rich.

You're just silly if you think the original characters are terrible...they are some of the better written characters in the series...but if they don't float your boat then so be it.

If two people haven't officially agreed to end it, and made sure the other knows, it counts as cheating. Sorry. Even if Shepard had just sent her a text message, that would have been enough. Should have been an option to answer the email in ME2.

WE were on a BREAK!

:-D

I agree, but, since BioWare didn't give that option, one could RP it that they *did* send a message.

Ash saying things like, "I can't tell the animals from the aliens" was off-putting to me at first. I think it was more down to bad writing than her character being speciesist. You could take that statement as her admitting to her own ignorance and lack of experience with alien species.  Or you could take it as her being crass and bigoted. It should have been better-illustrated in my opinion.

Are you actually being serious here? If I had a dollar for every anti-quarian post I've read, I'd have enough to fund new endings for ME3.

Then dig up just a few post of someone saying the hate Ashley specifically because she is human, and I'll find 100x more saying they hate her because she is racist, valid or not.

I could say that Garrus is racist and bigoted against the quarians due to a conversation he has with Tali in an elevator in ME1. That was ACTUAL racism, where he discriminated against her entire species. Nothing Ash ever says could compare to that line.

Keep in mind that many of Shepard's crewmates are young and don't have that much experience with other species. Ash never really dealt with aliens on a personal basis before the events of ME1. Tali was on her pilgrimmage, she was just starting out her life, and she never had personal experience with the geth. At least not a Geth like Leigon. They weren't prejudice because they were bad people, they wer prejudice because they lacked real world experience. Which is why they change a lot over the three games.

I never said everyone that hates her does so because she is human....I said a lot of human characters get hated on because they are human, thought to be boring or generic.  I have heard racist all of the time...but yet when a different character shows as much if not more intolerance to other species, well, it's ok, because they're alien.

Defend your position all you want, I have been on these boards since 2007 and it never changes.  I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, it makes me giggle at the irony is all.

You said that nobody bats an eye at the idea of the quarians attempting to kill the geth. I was telling you that this is completely false, because there are plenty of people who frequently post completely opposite opinions.
