If there were something very wrong, many people would be having the problem. Most of us aren't. There could well still be something wrong, but not very.
Also, (to everyone) I experienced that runtime error crash again. Here's the screenshot (mwsnap FTW!):

Yes, the desktop is gigantic because I run 3 monitors.
Googling it produces some pretty generic results, so I would imagine whatever is causing this crash is probably pretty rare. I also haven't seen references to it poking around on the forums.

My system is up to date with drivers, and has more than ample hardware. Nothing else crashes under Vista, and I run many hardware tests on this PC as it is used for testing purposes.
Given that the game only crashes when changing areas, and that nothing else is having problems, it does seem to be an issue related to the game, and not other hardware/software. But when Windows is involved, anything can happen

Why do people always assume crashes are a problem with the game? Sigh.
because there are many people with many different types of hardware and its all happening to each of them. so its not the machines.

Wrong. it doesn't happen at all to some people.

Why are you here in the Tech Support forums if you have NO problems with the game? WHY!?!?!?!
And you have the gall to call me a troll? Unreal...
I do have "problems" <--- plural , with this game. Thats why I am here. Why are YOU here?

There should be a rule that you can't complain about crashes until you have:
1) Installed the game on a fresh OS. It isn't Bioware's fault if you install problematic junk on your system and it crashes or does weird stuff to their game. See AVG minimizing games (which crashes many games) for example.
2) Run Memtest86+, linpak, and furmark and passed them all.
WOW... just wow.
No where does it say on the back of the game case that you must FORMAT your hard drive > reinstall your OS > reupdate all of the components > then reinstall the game. No where... Im looking at it right now. And just to let you know, I have Zero problems with any other program/game on my computer. Its not a hardware problem alone. Its a problem with the subpar programming conflicting with the hardware/software/OS of the system its installed on.
Seems there are TWO trolls on the Tech Support forums... Snow and Mattew. IF your not going to try and help people out then leave them alone.

At the very least the folks crashing should be supplying the dxdiag information for thier systems.
I will posit that the majority of them are
1) Running outdated or beta drivers.
2) Utilizing onboard sound
Sometimes one needs to completely clean one's drivers from the system for a clean install to get rid of tiny corruptions that cause problems.
Driver Sweeper and other programs can help with that.
While a last resort, a clean OS install can help. But the driver sweeper and latest drivers for your Vid/ Sound card should fix most of these problems.

To provide assistance to people who are having problems with their game.
Keep in mind that the people offering assistance here are, predominantly, other members of the community. No-one is being paid to provide support. Thus, there is no obligation to help any particular community member.
It should thus follow, that being polite and respectful to people is going to make them more inclined to help you with any specific issues you might have.

"my game isn't crashing"
"i think its fine the way it is"
"your computer sucks"
Im not saying your doing this because I haven't yet seen you post anything like that but there are 3 other people floating around the tech support trolling threads with post that I just discribed.

On the other hand, pointing out that not everyone is having the same problems in response to frustrated rants about "this game sucks, Bioware doesn't care about it's customers, worst game ever" is quite different.
I suppose the general rule before posting here should be something like "do you want to get help sorting something out, or do you just feel like ranting about how much things suck?"

This is what im talking about. What is this guy doing on the tech support forum? He adds nothing but frustration with comments like this.
And whats a unibody? Im going to have to look that up. New computer lingo.
And dont know to much about Macs. I do know that they are easier to make programs for since they dont have HUGE variations of hardware setups. That is one thing I envy Macs for. My next laptop might be a mac. They are def getting alot of attention now adays.
Can I install my DAO on a Mac if I got one? or would I have to get a Mac version?

I think it all boils down to how your PC is configured and why it is crashing all the time although admittedly it should not happen in the first place.
I only experienced two crashes while playing two playthroughs with the game. All of my DLCs are working properly, never had a problem of disappearing markers for shale and warden's keep. However, I can tell you that my DLCs were being flagged as unauthorized from time to time specially when I am logged in but it seems to fix itself after a few seconds and clearing the download cache once. Now I only play logged out since I really don't mind if my online profile is updated, its not even important since no points are added to purchase stuff for the game while playing logged in.
I didn't even install the patches that came out since I really felt, "why update if its not broken" and this confirmed my observation that somehow the patches may even do worse than good. I am only waiting for the major update that will fix the alleged memory leak and the cpu overloading.
Some pointers that may help, WHENEVER I PLAY I DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Defrag my drive using diskeeper.
2. Run AMD Fusion gaming utility to shut down MS background services that may interfere with DAO.
3. Suspend Avira Antivir for the duration of the game.
4. Play never logged in.
5. Quit game after an hour and relaunching it after a minute or two.
My PC specifications:
AMD Athlon 7750 @ 2.71 Ghz
3.5 GB RAM (4.0 GB Actual)
Nvidia 9800 GT Green Edition @ 195.62
WinXPSP3 32 Bit

Personally, this is why I dislike macs. The virtual monopoly there is on mac-compatible hardware means it's considerably overpriced.I do know that they are easier to make programs for since they dont have HUGE variations of hardware setups.
Actually reminds me of a story I read a while back: http://blogs.msdn.co.../09/110402.aspx
I do get your point about people trolling Tech Support, though. On the other hand, the moderation is actually pretty good at getting to stuff when it's flagged, so yeah.

But you have to admit that they are pretty good when it comes to stability... In my opinion a Mac is basically like a gaming console. Very little you can do to it. But you can expect all the programs should funtion as they should.
