Just watched Thane's ME3 romance scenes on youtube, and I can see why some of his fans were disappointed as he doesn't have much content. All of the ME2 LIs take a backseat in this game, so if any of them are your favorite character there is bound to be some disappointment.

But even so, I still think Thane's final scene in the series is also one of the best written and most emotional.

It's definitely satisfying if Thane was just your bro from ME2, but definitely not if your Shep loved him.

Pretty much all the ME2 LIs got shafted in ME3, with Miranda and Jack being the least and Jacob being the most.

Guess you were lucky if you were Liara/VS/Tali/Garrus lovers. As much as I love those guys, Thane was mah man :(

Thane's ME3 scenes are pretty rough if you romanced him. It's like a personality change for Thane and Shepard. I wanted to slap my Femshep for being so emotionless. Jacob... what they did to Jacob is just... an abomination.

It really was very jarring, and the interactions between them made me uncomfortable (my shepard isn't some sex-crazed lunatic in public, pouncing and moaning like she did in ME3. She was NOT portrayed like that in ME2 so why should she be in ME3?).

They were meant to have a deep connection, it wasn't meant to be some fling with a sexy green man who dies and that's the end of it. *stamps foot*

Shepard gets back to the ship and no one mentions Thane. Everyone acts like he never existed, including Shepard.

I felt like there was no real closure. Shepard is forced to act like she doesn't really care about him. I hoped he would be able to get treatment since his medical report from LotSB said he was eligible for a lung transplant. However, that was never mentioned again and there's no option to ask him about it.

I could have been ok with his death if they had handled the romance in a way that actually acknowledged the characters cared about each other. However, it was handled in a very generic, detached manner. A huge disappointment to people who loved Thane's character and his ME2 romance.

I think that is a fair point, and in retrospect maybe sunnie7699 is right: That the final conversation with Thane works better if he's Shepard's 'bro' rather than a boyfriend. Shepard being rather stoic about the whole thing makes more sense with the former.

Like others said, it's probably the only romance of the trilogy that feels like a real relationship instead of a fling.

Every time I read something like this I want to punch a baby. Or better yet, a Starchild.

Really? Me too. Maybe we have something wrong with us. We shouldn't want to punch things.
Unless they're starchild.
... Damn star child.

Speaking of Starchild lol...  youtu.be/rm82gjZDIDU

Don't get me wrong fellas, I really like Garrus and Kaidan as LIs for my FemShep, but the VS romance seems like it lacks continuity (especially since the VS spends half of the game on the Citadel and mostl of the time acts like you have never had anything). As for Garrus, I think the problem is that we can start a romance with him in ME1, but Garrus is still the most awesome LI of ME3. Tali suffers the same problems as Garrus and VS, plus that terrible picture of her adds to her problems. So, well, I say Liara feels more like a true relationship because of the continuity and her role in the games. Garrus still has the best romance lines in ME3 ::D

Thane.....always. Still living in ME2.....no point going into me3

Yes. Thane's ME2 romance was a thing of beauty. I will be here pretending ME3 never happened.

Just out of curiosity, what was it you didn't like about ME3 in regards to Thane?

I always roll a male shep so I'm not sure how the Thane romance plays out in ME3 (I have seen the Thane ME2 romance on youtube), but I thought his content in ME3 for non-romanced characters was great. He has one of the most well written and emotional moments in the game.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is whether it was lack of romance content, or how the plotline involving Thane ends.

Where to start? The romance content for Thane in ME3 is very... lacking. His character development in ME2 was ignored and he acts in the same resigned manner whether you romanced him or not. His whole attitude in ME3 felt contrary to the core theme of his romance arc.

Shepard treats him like he was a fling and shows very little concern for him. Shepard is not even given the chance to tell Thane that she went to the hospital to visit him after recieving his message. The auto-dialogue always says Shepard is there for the VS. Most of the conversation revolves around Kepral's and Thane's impending death. After which, you are given the option to go make out by a window.

That is the only conversation Shepard can have with him before he dies. He will continue to sit by that lonely hospital window repeating the same conversation options until the Citadel Coup.

He tells Shepard "We always knew it would end" which is basically a dismissal of the entire relationship. What happened to the man who wanted to make the most of the time he had left and not spend his final days in a hospital? Or the man who wrote in his letter that he wants to stay by Shepard's side and protect her with everything that he is? All of that was gone in the ME3 romance.

What we got was detached, unemotional interaction.

During the Kai Leng fight scene Thane managed to throw Kai Leng across the room with his biotics. Shepard and the squad had a clear shot at Leng who was on the ground yet they did nothing. All so Thane could get stabbed for dramatic effect. Shepard barely seems to care that the man she loves has been stabbed. She leaves him alone, bleeding out against a wall to wait for Bailey to bring help. She couldn't leave a squadmate to stay with him or to help him get some medical help faster? Apparently not.

Cue the death scene: Shepard continues to be unemotional. The man she loves is dying and she can't even shed a tear or tell him she loves him? His death scene is almost word-for-word and action-for-action the same whether he is romanced or not.

It was not bittersweet, it was just bitter.

Beautifully explained! I wonder if anyone from bioware is reading this thread. This is exactly how all Thanemancers felt. :(

Annnnndddd, this is why I leave all my Sheps (yes....including my M!Sheps) in ME2.  It even gets worse for the romance when you can't even get a single squadmate/crewmember to acknowledge his existence, not even a Codex entry of Known Associates, and NO paramour achievement......even Kelly (and that is NOT a dig on Kellymancers....want equity for all) gets the Paramour Achievement.  Not so for Thane and Jacob T........and they were full-fledged LI's in ME2.  Hell, Thane was actually designed specifically for the female gamer.  I could go on, but..........tl;dr.Image IPB

Morrigan.  Oh wait.  :P

I'll get back to you on this.  I haven't finished my Liara romance playthrough.  I was kind of annoyed at how the Tali romance seemed kinda one-sided, like Shepard wasn't very into it compared to her.  I wuv Tali.  Garrus & Femshep is good though.

If you used her as a squadmate during the missions on Rannoch, it's actually quite romantic.

I love the flirty dialog on the geth dreadnought, but in the final romance scenes (such as before Cerberus base), Shep seems kinda dismissive.

I guess they were going for "distracted," but yeah... I saw it too.

Jacob. I loved the resolution in ME3.

Lol.

I liked Jacob in ME2, but I don't think I'll ever bother carrying over the femshep that romanced him.  It would be cruel.

None....they were all horrible.

Never has something called 'romance' been so awkward or felt so wrong. I 'romanced' someone in ME1 and had to restart the game, my Commander Sheppard is more like the crews' Dad than a boyfriend. So inappropriate.

If someone held a gun to my head I guess I'd go with Liara, second choice would be Tali.

I think the title should be changed to "Which romance did you think sucked the least?"

I played two playthroughs with two LIs, and watched the others on Youtube. And I like them all. Obviously some got more attention than others, but I liked them all even Jacob's and Thane's.

I thought most of them were all sweet in their own way.

Even Jacob's?

He cheats on Fem Shep *and* gets the other woman pregnant.

Jacob's Internal Dialogue: "Cheating on Shepard with Dr. Brynn Cole? Heavy risk, but those thiiiighs...."

I kind of feel sorry for anyone who had Jacob as their Shepard's canon LI going into ME3. All that was missing from the conclusion to that romance was chants of "Jerry! Jerry!" followed by some gratuitious chair throwing.

Jack, easily. If the Mass Effect games only allowed one character at a time, so I could only choose one LI, it would be Jack. I love her to death.

Ashley is a not-very-close second, and Liara a distant third. I am also developing a soft spot for Traynor, lol.

But I choose Jack. The foul-mouthed spunky-yet-vulnerable tsundere lady is my catnip.

Jack in ME2.

In ME3 ... well...none of them really did it for me, they were all a little shallow.

Liara hands down... Her character development regardless of whether or not you romance is her by far the best in the game, and that just adds a whole other dimension to the romance.

Thane in ME2. But my Shepard that romanced him won't be imported to ME3 because of the horrible mess they did with Thane as a LI.

So for ME3 it's Kaidan.

Tali for my Mainshep.
Liara for my other shep.

Tried (well, attempted) to romance Ashley, but..
I respected her views (in ME1), just couldn't like her enough =/

ME1: No one (I would say Ash, but from what she turned into kind of ruins the experience for me)

ME2: Tali

ME3: Tali

... Shut up. <_<

I liked Jack the best, you may have had to put up with some crap to get there but once you did it seemed as though she was showing you her soul. The hug/embrace with the tears was better than the sex scene imo. I haven't played through ME3 with her as the LI yet but i know she doesn't get a fair shake. It was actually the play through i was looking forward to the most... to bad because of the end i can't even be bothered to turn it back on.
