who's really the artist here? The guys at BW who gave us a marvelous magic paint box, or the players who took those tools and made their own unique creations. The BW team amply deserves credit, recognition and accolades for being master artisans and craftsmen - the artistry, I submit belongs to each of us.
Net - I'd like MY artistic integrity respected, please.
actually bioware are the artists and if anything we are the students buddy
they gave us the tool to do what we do did they not?
but i guess to some people : looks over and whoever it was i quoted* they would think my reply is insulting
If we are students then what have we been taught?
They SOLD us the tools and a semi-blank canvas so we could make OUR art. The supplier of a tool is NEVER the artist they merely made it possible for the art to be made, and in this case they gave us a canvas that alredy had the final touches... all we GOT to do was give it all the minor details and stuff
not insulting just incorrect.
Slyguy200 has it right - all the blather about BW's
Artistique Integrite misses the point - no one is screwing with the dialogue, messing with the art (OK, JeanLuc's texmods represent an improvement, not a revision) or subbing in new characters and plot lines. Most importantly, no one is offering competing versions of the ME components or holding them out as alternatives.
BW has provide the paints, puppets, metes and bounds, and the broad rules of the game -> makes your choice, takes your pick. What gets created in the process, in
your subjective experience is your own, unique, personal creation - by changing the rules of the game in the final seconds, BW has damaged its own creation as well as trashing mine.
Without the player's creative contribution, the multiple ME universes would not exist. EA/BW may assert property rights as grounds for reneging on the fundamental tenets of the game - but they cannot defend their right to do so in the name of protecting "their" artistic creation.
