Miranda>>>>>>>Ashley. One of the things I like about a Shepard and Miranda relationship, would be some of the tension people would have. With all Cerberus is doing in ME 3, people wouldn't exactly like someone whos ex-Cerberus. Which is another reason why Miranda should have been a squadmember. Just think about some of the things people would say to you about Miranda. You would have to say how she isn't with them anymore, shes redeemed herself, she never knew Cerberus would betray humanity, etc. But, Bioware gave the shaft to all characters introduced in ME 2 (except EDI). Alas, no Miranda squadmember. Also, Miranda is an all around character. Intelligence, good looks, good fighter, bit of a questionable past (Cerberus ties), ends justify the means type of person (but paragon Shepard would change her a little bit on that).
My 2 cents anyways.

Ashley has the most grating personality in the entire series

I'm pretty sure Yvonne would have asked for a hefty payraise for more studio time....there's your answer.
Cheap stock photo for Tali anyone?

Would approve of DLC that allows interactions between these two, heck I would liek that for all of the ME 2 characters

Personally, I prefer Miranda. I've mentioned before that I have a Shepard I created for the sole purpose of pursuing Ash in 1 and Miranda in 2 to see what the fallout would be. Unfortunately as we know nothing much came of it, but it did give me further appreciation for Miranda.
I think the VS survivor is justified in their trust issues, but it just wasn't handled all that well and like many people have said, Ashley started grating my nerves. On top of that, I grew to feel that her and Kaidan remained mostly static as characters and never really developed significantly. Miranda, on the other hand, I find has a really fulfilling story arc. Yes, she starts as a smug ice queen who is not all that likeable, but you have the opportunity to challenge her views and encourage her to start to open up emotionally. If you put the effort in to spending time with her throughout, the scene at the end of ME2 where she quits Cerberus is hugely satisfying. This continues into ME3, where she has definitely changed. She is shown struggling and genuinely doubtful and she is shown as putting protecting her sister and others above all else. I like that I can see the positive effects of my influence on her. With Ash, all my influence seems to have done is cause distrust, indecisiveness and unease.
I haven't and likely will not ever play that Shepard in ME3, but I'm 99% certain he would've ended up with Miranda. That 1% was the slight possibility that Ashley is more trusting of a Shepard that romanced her (which doesn't seem to be the case). However, seeing Miranda all hopeless and defeated during the last conversation you have made me want to do whatever I could to prove her wrong and make her happy.
From a gameplay perspective, I find Miranda the more useful squadmate too.

I like them both, so I'm not going to go the 'who would win in a physical fight' route.
But, given both have strong personalities, I would have loved to seen a verbal match-up between the two.
(such a wasted opportunity there - big time fail on BioWare's part)
A couple of side notes :
On the trust issue(s) - one did want to install a control chip in the brain & the other should have put more faith in Shepard sooner.
Of course, though, Miranda didn't know what to expect from Shepard and who knows what TIM said exactly - when he 'leaked' Shepard's involvement with Cerberus.
Either way, both did express their regrets for their previous trust issues, and neither did it on the turn of a dime.
(Shepard did still have to convince both of them)
Also, as for the Eden Prime/Geth example - you can just sit there & do nothing and Ash will take out the Geth, single-handedly, with no problem.
(I found this out - while trying to line up a sniper shot on a low level character)

Ashley.
Miranda's constantly whining about how she's genetically supperior and how that's a bad thing.
If she actually looked like a brunette Yvonne Strahowsky (she looks somehow quite off), I'd understand her visual appeal.
But ME3 Ashley is hotter and she feels more genuine.
