This page says it all, if you do everything right and your Shepard has made it to the end, I feel happy ending should be an option.

Happy ending = cliche ending, ME is more than that. Considering how serious Reaper threat is, happy ending doesn't fit well here.

And other things like Shepards speech to his squad before the final push towards the beam aren't cliche?

And how would you've done it so it won't be cliche? Motivation speech is simply a mandatory :) It always has been clice and always will be. I got used to that long ago :) If you think retrospectively into various stories, everything but original (it dates to BC calendar:o) is cliche. Every comedy, every action, adventure.. every superhero, simply everything... but enough, we've gone far off the topic :)

The concept is not a cliché itself, it is how it's done that make it a cliché.

I'd like you to point me a space-opera of that size in a game that did a better job :) Don't count KotOR;)

It's not about space opera, the environement have nothing to do.

Not a super example because it contains magic...

Stop it at 1 minute.

Suikoden does it even better depending on how many of the 108 stars you manage to recruit. But it's really difficult finding those of a decent quality on youtube.

I would like a happy ending.

Happy being defined as Shepard and crew makes it out alive, enough of Earth remains intact to be rebuilt, and the mass relays aren't trashed thus plunging civilization into a dark age.

yes I would IF you do everything right like Mass Effect 2 where evrybody survived

the tone wasn't my problem with the ending though as "Dark" endings are the done thing now if you are trying to be mature for some silly reason

6:30-7:50 sad ending. You invoke the true rune of punishment but end up trapped in it forever. But you did save everyone (see part1)

8:00 + Happy ending, you find your way out of the rune of punishment and wake up. Get picked up by a passing ship.

I want a good ending. Tacking on a 4th option and making it the happier one wouldnt make the ending make any more sense.

This. I have enough disappointments in my life without something I pour 100+ hours into coming out sombre b/c of "artistic integrity."

I don't need a happy ending. I would be content with an ending that isn't full of plot holes and actually represents what was advertised.

Exactly. Adding a happy 'yellow' ending would not be an improvement.

This.
People will accept it if it just makes sense, happy or not.

I think a happy ending should be attainable. There should also be a sadder, more desperate ending. Didn't Bioware say that there would be a bunch of different endings? All dependent on our actions across the 3 games? There should be a couple of endings you can get.

I'm holding out for a house on Rannoch. Rumor has it, though, that you might wind up with little blue kids whether you wanted them or not.

I'm still holding out some hope for something better. Doesn't have to be a "happy" ending per se. Just an ending that a.) makes sense, and b.) provides answers and REAL closure. I was just disappointed they didn't have an "ALL IS LOST!" ending where the Reapers win. It would've added variety and with the prospect of potentially losing would make people care about getting to the ending. But I'm trailing off topic so here I end. Later! :)

I wouldn't really call any ending a happy ending. There are scripted deaths in the game that you have no control over, and there are plenty of deaths due to the reapers by default.

Some people made awesome points. Like BobSmith101 (nailed it dude, thanks for the dose of sanity)

I just wanted to say that if you ever do get blue babies and a house on Rannoch, don't forget my adopted little krogans :P
