THIS is a pretty cool, simple edit job by a forum member that works with what they gave us (that dreck) and turns it into a "happy" ending with real hope and no despair: Give it a look.

I don't want them to change the ending, I just want more of them. I would like to see a happier ending if you go down that route. I have always been a perfectionist in this game. I want things to go right. I don't want to do everything right and still be shoved down a "and then everyone everywhere died, the end" finish like I was.

Hell, I'd just like to see shepard defeat the reapers, survive, and forge his new life on Rannoch with tali.

I had a happyish ending in ME1 and ME2. I had one in Dragon age origins and even in Dragon age 2. definitely had one in Kotor and I do believe, there's one in jade empire. haven't' had a chance to finish baldur's gate games, but my SO who knows very well what my tastes are when it comes to stories.. tells me that i can have a happy ending there as well.

so why not ME3? yes, I'd like an ending where Shepard survives, rejoins her/his crew/LI and doesn't' destroy civilization as we know it through destruction of relays.

would it be happy in a "rainbows and unicorns" sort of happy like so many detractors like to claim? not really. people still died, planets lay in shambles, a lot of rebuilding would have to happen. a lot. and in that ending, I would like to have that acknowledged as well (I liked Turian council's speech at the end of ME1, acknowledging the sacrifices of those who made it possible for him to stand there). even the "best" ending will be bittersweet. but it would actualy have sweetness in it for me to enjoy. and that's all I ask for.

I don't need a "happy" ending per se, but it would be nice not to have a completely soul crushingly depressing ending.

With most of the home planets of the races of the galaxy in rubble and billions upon billions dead, there's not going to be a "happy" ending. It's just not possible.

I'll settle for an ending that isn't the gaming equivalent of a spiked knuckle punch to the crotch over and over again.

Congratulations, you got what you wanted. Believe me, I'd be appalled by an Ewok party, but I still wanted the opportunity to earn more than we got.

I would have liked a Gears 3 style ending where Shepard, and his squadmates survive and are on a ruined Earth but there is still hope. I would have been happy with something simple like that. And it would have left it open for future games. Variables should have been who survived and the state of Earth.

I would be satisfied with that  (provided relays are not completely destroyed - that stranding of galactic fleet and the fact that every single populated planet that's not completely self sufficient, especialy industrial colonies - are now slated for death, burns me as much as Shepard's death)

as for people who hate hapy ending - you can keep your dramatic tragedy, no one is taking it away from you.  we just want an option for the ending that works for us.

I don't think its just the discussion that someone wants " Good " ending. Its the fact there was a lack of a good ending compared to 3 choices that were forced.

Look. I could care less if someone has a hard on for a real dark and hopeless ending for themselves because their just fans of sheer oblivion and total destruction. I can respect that, but I have to go back to the set presidence that was given to the players in ME2 where --- you could very well have a total and bleak ending. You could have a so-so ending --- OR you could have had a PERFECT ending. The point was --- you had a choice.

If at the end, there was only going to be 3 roads that lead to the same destination, then they should have kept that as a normal aspect of the said game so there wouldn't have been a false advertisement back lash.

Some people would actully like to feel pretty good after a long series like that --- why not give it to them? If you want depression --- cool we can give you that too! This shouldn't be difficult.

I'd like the option to be able to earn a "not completely depressing everyone dies and there's nothing left wtf happened" ending.

Shepard promised me hope, and BW took that hope and crushed it in front of me and then threw it in my face.

More important than anything else, I want an ending that actually takes into account how hard I worked uniting the galaxy, hunting down war assets, etc.

In other words, I want the ability to get better endings the harder I work and the better I prepare the galaxy. As of right now, all of the endings are more or less the same and all my work seems rather pointless.

Exactly, just like ME2 was based upon ---- if you wanted a good ending, you worked for it. If you wanted to cut to the chase and have at it --- it was up to the table system that decided how bad it was going to be.

But in the end, the choices were there --- not to mention...ahem ---  R E P L A Y  V A L U E :pinched:

I don't want a happy ending I just want endings that are actually different from each other and I want closure.

What's with the "closure" shtick? Closure smosure. If Bioware actually rescues ME3 (and by extension the ENTIRE franchise) from oblivion with a proper ending with actual differences, including a 'happy'(ish) ending, then that is closure. Shepard being alive with his or her LI and the galaxy essentially saved IS closure in itself. If they rescue the entire franchise, final "closure" will go out the window in any case. There WILL be future ME games, whether they involve Shepard or not they will come...unless they leave the franchise DOA as it currently stands. A movie? No point without a fixed ending. Fix the ending and the movie can become movies (plural) and that guarantees more games too.  No finality, no "closure" there either.

There is no closure with success so the idea of closure, at least as some people infer it to mean (final, dead, but successful), isn't going to happen. Closure NEVER happens in real life either so let's make it real and toss the closure thing out the window and just aim for good, solid, logical, and not just bleak and sad for the sake of...a very cliche artsy-fartsy-edgy ending.

Can I just say something? Given that this is a no-spoilers forum, why do so many people complain about the ending and suggest that it's not happy - i.e. a sad ending?

There are people that read these forums that have not played the single-player through and do not know how things turn out. So why are people spoiling it for them by even hinting at what the ending's like? People complain that Bioware is selfish, but I would say the people screaming so much about the ending and letting on that it might not be what people hope for are even more selfish.

I would like to see a tough line put out in this forum and it be kept free of discussion about the plot/ending, including complaints. If people want to complain they can go and rant in the spoilers forum.

Not really.  If you don't own the game or have it registered, you cannot post to the spoiler forums.  I HAD the game, I played it to within a fraction of a percent of the ending and quit, returned it.  I am fully qualified to speak out about it but have no forum here within which to do it...except here in the general discussion forums.

Besides, the horses are WAY out of the barn on the whole spoiler ending thing.  Almost everyone knows the end is a total disaster for the game, a disaster from a publicity and PR standpoint.  Way I see it, we are helping people who haven't yet played or haven't yet purchased.  They can choose not to play and send that sucker back or not spend the money at all.  IF Bioware fixes this bunghole then the game will still be there available for re-purchase/purchase.  This is a public service!
