look at great bad guys, vader is great bc he is central to the story, liquid snake is too, the twist with master li in jade empire was the best in any video game bc from the start he was like a father figure,
i understand that loghain retreated and that was really bad, but there was nothing else to make me hate him. he sent an assassin after me and i killed him at the landsmeet, thats it. he and the archdemon are just obstacles to over come.
next time, it would be cool to have a nemesis villian, someone who is always right behid you, maybe they even kill someone in your party you care about, or trick you into doing something bad,
just something to give you character a deeper relationship with the bad guy....
anyways my two cents, anyone else? id be interested to see what other people think

Don't forget his endorsement of slavery. He was plenty evil enough. The only thing he didn't do was sodomize you personally..

1) He betrayed not only his king but a sizable portion of the army at Ostegard. Revisionist will have you believe that he only was trying to save his own troop from a bad battle plan. However remember at the war council the King said the battle plan was one that Logahin drawn up.
2) He likely had let the darkspawn infiltrate the tower at Ostegard. Remember that tower was way behind enemy line. I wonder who let all those dark spawn in?
3) He made deals with the blood mage to take over the Circle of Mage. Everything in Fereldain lore and upbringing would had taught Logahain that the blood mage are evil corrupt people. Yet he made a deal with them.
4) He was willing to use the a member of the blood mage to poison his political rival.
5) He turned his own capital city over to his crony who in turn made it a playground for criminals. If you done some of the quest for that City militia he said that Arl Howe has been stuffing the city guard full of incompetent people and that Arl Howe personal guards are often worse than criminals.
6) He was actively cooperating with Tervinter Imperium (which again according to history was and is an evil empire) in selling elves to slavery.
7) There was indication he was willing to let Arl Howe kill his own daughter if she doesn't cooperate.
8) He was so busy with the civil war he let Dark Spawn sack towns including Lothering without even a token force to help with the evacuation. Not only that he apparently didn't even know that the Darkspawn was at the door step of his own capital.
He did all the above because he was still fighting the rebellion against Orlais. His hatred for that nation is so great it blind him to anything in front of him including the present evil. And apparently no evil is too great in reaching that end. I think this is probably a more realistic portrayal of evil than most games. I doubt any evil people in history ever think of themselve as evil or do evil act for the fun of it. It is most often done with what in their mind is altruistic goal.

Let list the way the Logahin is bad.

would not a true Gray Warden do all those things and more to end the blight? Duncan forced a dying man to give his youngest child to the Gray Wardens in return for that childs survival (human noble). He murdered a Knight to keep his orders secret ritual from leaking out, so that future Gray Warden iniciates would be ignorant of the true sacarifice they are about to make. He was willing to allow 4 legions of Orlais Cavaliers into Fereldan to fight against the blight at Ostrigar, with no way of keeping these former occupiers 'in-check' once the fight was over. Did not the 'great leader' at the the old Gray Warden keep allow demons to be summoned by a bloodmage in order to keep the Realistate in gray warden hands? If you ask me Logahin and Duncan are very much the same... Willing to destoy and sacraffice everything to achieve a goal.....
