I like the way the romances are done.  The scenes are really good, both the gay and straight ones.  But I think there should be a little more of an impact in how your love interest interacts with you.  Like on missions or just walking around the ship between missions.  There should be alternate dialogue thats unique to your love interest to give them some more depth.  Or even how other team members may comment on it.  Right now the only other team member that seems to mention your love interest at all is Javik towards the end.  its not game breaking or anything I just think it would add a little more richness to the game.

I agree, more "pressure" or "activity" on the romances will have help. To be clear, i mean more moments of love, either a crew member talking about it or a intense look with the love one will "remember" you more often that theres a relationship between them.
Like you say, there are no many moments where this is show, making the relationships go to a second bakcground, giving it less importance.

If your LI was Tali, it appears that all squaddies have some sort of mention to it on the dreadnought, but yeah, i agree. Maybe if you didn't remain loyal to your ME1 LI there should be a slanging match should the two ever meet...

I would like your LI to live in your cabin with you, or at least have the option to 'call them up' as you could for some post-ME2 campaign.

There's a mini one of these if you romanced Liara in ME1 and Tali in ME2 at the start of the Geth Dreadnought mission. That's about as much as you get.

I already can imagine BioWare spending half of their resources on romances in ME4. ;)

I like romances too but I see a lot of topics asking for more and better romances. Let's try to not change this game into Love Effect 4. ;)
I can understand fans of ME2 LIs (I'm one of them) that want to have their romance to be as good as other. But expanding romances that are already there even more is kinda waste of resources. BioWare already mentioned that they didn't have enough resources for everything that they wanted to do.

I say yes everyone's romances should have more impact and feel more like a romance especially with Jack which as sidelining goes Jack win's. (unless you count Jacob dumping you and Thane's death)

But on Aver88 point one of the biggest lures of the franchise was the romance's (bioware even said this in an interview at one point). So i think it is possible there is more romance scenes etc but I will be surprised

For me it maybe wasn't exactly lure but I enjoyed it indeed. Especially in ME2. There was a lot of different personalities etc. But in ME3 there was only big disappointment for fans of LI from ME3 because they didn't have enough budget for all LIs (it was said by one writer in Samara's topic).

Actually, because of situation in ME3, romances in ME aren't lure for me anymore. It's something opposite for me now and that's why I'm against spending even more resources on it in future games.

Indeed. I'd love to see more dialogue regarding the LI - by other crew- and squadmates and of course by the LI him/herself.

With exception of Garrus' and Liara's romance AND Vega's story arc, any other character gets shafted more or less. ME2 characters get sidelined a lot, the VS is reduced to "Kasumi" and "Zaeed" with perfectly crafted romance scenes.

What's needed to be done?

- give more romantic interactions (like summoning your LI to the cabin / let the LI move in permanently)
- add more non-romantic, friendly fluff as well (check out Garrus' stuff!)
- add more friendly interaction between squad- and crewmates for those characters currently lacking it (again: check out Garrus!)
- add a score system (non-visible) which might give additional scenes/options in a romance if raised - or may even lead to a break up if too low (okay, that one is a dream - maybe ME4?)
- ...

Yes, I'm well aware ME isn't about romances only. They're just a nice extra feature. However, ME claims to be a series of RP games. RPing also includes romancing characters. The more resources you spent on creating a believable world with authentic characters and interactions, the better a player can dive in and BECOME the protagonist.
Make it happen.

In case BW does a reboot of the series, I hereby apply for a job as writer

I've only had Tali as LI in ME3 yet (haven't had the heart to touch single player since finishing the game), but I was ok with how the romance was handled with one exception:

The big time, last hurrah moment was overrun by the last dream sequence. There was a tiny conversation between Shepard and Tali, but not as meaningful as the previous one. And there was nothing to the level of the conversation in ME2, though the scene on Rannoch itself was very good.

I would've liked a few little things along the lines of DA:O, how your party members would occasionally bring up the romances, joke about them, poke fun, and how dialogue would be slightly altered in certain scenes to accommodate for that.
Nothing huge or plot changing, but it would've been a nice addition.

I think your concern is misplaced. If anything they've gone the opposite direction. They added multiplayer and dumbed down the dialogue trees making it even more action and even less RPG.

Somehow I don't think if there ever was a Mass Effect 4 that we'd have to worry about them fleshing out a story aspect "too much", whether it be a romance storyline or not.

Hey, we're on the same side here, Demonhoopa ;)

Definitely need to add a statement: Liara gives Shepard some comfort and s/he gives her some after the fall of Thessia (Lore error: even if Thessia is under siege, it can't be destroyed within several days of fight while Palaven and Earth survive MONTHS of constant battle).

I'd like to see something similar for other LIs: supporting Shepard / Shepard supporting them. Can't be that difficult to add.
Also: every single squadmate has more or less to say after each mission. I'd like to see two - maybe three - different versions of the same statements:

- neutral / professional version if you rarely talk to that person or has no common past
- friendly version if you're interacting a lot with that character without being romantically involved
- romantic version if that character is your active LI

I would like to use Ash as example here, but ... to respect those who don't like her, I won't. I'm not good with Liara, so ... no example.

Wait....was that directed at me? LOL

I dislike Ashley but in a GOOD way. The same way someone might dislike the Council for being aholes or maybe a bad guy like TIM. No she's not a villain but can be an antagonist of sorts (for some of my Shepards she is). But I think she is a GREAT character and the game is better for presence (In other words, I love the conflict. Watching my Shepard tell her to get stuffed on Mars was quite satisfying). However, that won't stop my b*tchy red head renegade from shooting her on The Citadel. Posted Image

^ that's what RP is for, Demon *g*

Okay, have the example:

Neutral!Ash: Commander? I saw what happened on Thessia. It's hard to believe all major worlds are under siege now. If we can't unite the fleets faster, there won't be anything left to save.

Friendly!Ash: Hey Shepard. I saw what happened on Thessia. Did you talk to Liara already? She must be devastated - if she feels the same I felt when watching Earth burn, she needs some comfort. Hope you can talk to her. And how are you doing? I'll be here, if you need to talk.

Romanced!Ash: Skipper ... I can't believe what happened down there. Thessia - burning. Like Earth. I wonder how you can take it - or can't you? Don't need to answer that. Just ... let me now if you need to talk, hmm? And talk to Liara, Skipper. She needs a friend now.

THAT's how it should have been done. For ANY character.
(Or kinda similar).

I understand where you are coming from, with me however its the story you go through with shepard and his companions and how the relationships change over time (for better or for worse) and the romance's are part of that story one way or another.

But for me ME2 was the best on this matter because of sheer number of characters (I admit there is too many at times) but all of them padded out the story into something that felt like you are were going to stick together till very end (i.e. fight with you till they defeat the reapers or die) but in ME3 they did ruin that notion with the side lined characters with often terrible excuses on why they cannot join you.

For instance Jacob (granted nobody likes him now anyway) but his reason for not joining is to protect those he cares about, which is fair enough but they are at a SECRET alliance facility in the middle of nowhere where the entire galaxies best minds and forces are protecting to build the crucible and you think they need protection there really his protection is the equilevant to a sling shot (without a rock for it) to a million rocket launchers.

The only characters its understandable is with Miranda (hunting down her sister and injured after sanctuary), sort of Jack (she is a team leader now of  the biotic version of the A-team) apart from them two, the others have oweful reasons.

I wish Bioware stopped focusing so heavily on gameplay and actually focused on the story in ME3 which is the primary reason everyone loves this game

Yes something along these line's and maybe take a note of how they handled charecter interactions in Dragon age origins. They seemed to really nail them in that.

I play ME mainly for story and other characters. Gameplay is just additional feature for me. ;) I like romances and stuff but if romances would look like now (I'm getting used to one character in ME2 and in ME3 she is practically removed from the game) then I don't wanna romances at all in future games. I would rather see more story than this. ;)

Agreed... the LI's should've been the most important sideplot of the whole game.
