Basically just name a few guns you like to use or you think are good and reasons why if you want, I'll start.

Geth Shotgun - the only shotgun which is actually "good", has decent effect at long range, nice clip size, (charged shots for when running between areas/initiating), its existence makes up for all the other geth weapons being absolute garbage. Just recently discovered how good a gun this one is, after seeing some people using theirs, I had a level V untouched until today.
Black Widow/N7 Valiant - both very similar, of course the Window can be upgraded so its obviously got the edge on that mark but they both excel at firing multiple rounds, headshot hunting. And are generally the sniper rifles of choice for any situation. The only downfall to them is their rarity.
Carnifex - One of those guns I couldn't really understand why anyone would use it until I went into gold, generally outperforms the Phalanx and has some knockback I believe which makes it a lightweight and effective weapon

For SMGs and Assault Rifles...
The best assault rifle has to be the M-99 Saber, personally don't like it much aside from high damage but its rate of fire and weight discourage use for me, although at long range it is strong as well as medium, not as effective at close range if against small enemies or playing with lag
For SMGs I would say the Hornet, to be honest, there is rarely any justification to use SMGs and the only time I use the Hornet is if I want a spam happy vanguard, in which case charging and spraying is effective.

I rarely see it used by others, but I love my Raptor sniper rifle. I use it as my only weapon in all builds except Adept and Zoom/boom Vanguards. It has a great rate of fire, great accuracy, and with a weapon mod, decent damage. Good amount of Amo too at 128/15 per clip decent upgraded.

I have never once used an SMG and never will.

I gotta say the Disciple is pretty damn good. About as strong a the Katana but much lighter and more accurate with a guaranteed stagger. With the damage and accuracy mods it becomes decent at range for when it's needed. And being lightweight makes it great for caster type classes, I'm currently using it on my Asari Vanguard and Quarian Infiltrator with great success.

Paladin > Everything.

It can snipe, it deals a lot of damage and it has very low weight for what it does.

My personal favorites for each category:
Sniper: Mantis; until you can level up a Widow significantly it provides the best power to weight ratio of any single shot sniper.
Assault Rifle: Vindicator; it's light, accurate, and deadly. What more would I want out of an AR?
SMG: Tempest; It's an absolute bullet hose and has more stopping power than most people here give it credit for.
Shotgun: Disciple; It's the lightest shotgun with guaranteed stagger effect, combine that with respectable fire rate, damage and accuracy and it's pretty much the perfect shotgun for shotgun situations.
Pistol: Carnifex; While I have a Palladin the Carnifex is a lot more reliable due to its lower weight and much more reasonable reserve ammo.

I can't stop using the humble Phalanx. I know it doesn't do as much damage as other guns, but it fires pretty fast, it can land headshots with a scope, and my power cooldowns with it are about .2 seconds faster than with my Carnifex. Will I ever even notice that .2 seconds? Probably not, but just knowing it's there makes me skittish.

Black Widow. Some people feel it's great, some people don't. It's almost like an extension of myself now. I can paint masterpieces with it. My teammates hear the click of the thermal clip being loaded and they know that a wave of death is sure to follow. I am a merciful Salarian. I put down my foes quickly and painlessly. One shot. One kill. No prisoners.

Avenger X is old faithful for me. I can't get it out of my rotation. I play a lot of coop and have an N7 rating of over 250. I still don't have an assault rifle, heavy pistol, or smg that makes it worth taking the Avenger X out of my loadout. It's ranged accuracy, sufficient damage, and fire rate make it a jack of all trades weapon that I can't get rid of because at lvl X it only costs you 10% power recharge speed. You can successfully engage targets at any range and still be able to spam powers at 190% recharge speed. The mods I use are stability and damage.

Carnifex, Widow, Black Widow, N7 Valiant, Mantis, Geth shotgun, Claymore. The rest are meh imo.

My favourite gun is the Raptor, I love that gun. My other favourites are the Phalanx, Disciple, Crusader and Widow.

Black Widow. Carnifex. Leveled Hornet (Turians and Human Vanguard). Widow. Mantis. Claymore.

Not a big fan of the GPS, though I know some people are. Ditto Revenant. Both are playable; neither is optimal IMO.

I don't give ARs or SMGs my time of day. I did use the Mattock the last week, playing around with different builds. But I'm not doing nearly as much damage with it as I do with either of the above weapons. Plus, I like the feel of all the mentioned weapons.

Very little beats the feeling of satisfaction from the standard Widow though. I always use the standard Widow in SP.

Amen. Put them out of their misery quick. Best gun in the game imo.

Mattock x - Chew's threw armour, even on gold. Allows my Turian Sentinel to solo Brute's Banshee's and Atlases.

When I used it, the Black Widow I was indeed powerful. Just wish it didn't weigh so goddamn much.

Revenant - again on a Turian but this time on the soldier. I feel that class and race is really necessary to control this beast but damn does this chew through enemies as if they were paper. Basically tuned the Turian around this weapon, and having fun figuring out what skills get the best out of it. Think when I do, I will finally be able to use the soldier on gold with confidence.

Carnifex - So damn dependable. That's it really. Just unlocked the paladin so will see how it handles in comparison but at level VI, I think the carni can't be beat.

Phalanx - I loved the Predator but the Phalanx is better in every way so when the carni is too heavy, this gun steps in nicely. Useful as well as for just softening the target to allow the powers to take care of the enemy.

Disciple - Looks so damn cool. I think that's it really.

Geth shotgun - Melts armour. FAST.

Locust - It's an smg so it automatically sucks BUT for geth hunter's it has it's use as I can shoot them making them visible (get that orange reticule around them) long enough for me to hit them with an adept power that will drop their shields and cloak properly, and allow for the real pain to hit home.

Raptor - fun on silver sometimes and I like the way it handles.

Saber + Black Widow > everything else.

I top the scores chart 99.9% of the time using ANY class with a Saber.

As for the Black Widow...it's just a killing machine. Weaker than a Widow X for sure, but not by much when you consider that you can pull off 3 consecutive shots. That's more than enough to put pretty much anything down aside from the heavies.

N7 Crusader pretty much a sniper/shotgun. deadly accurate to the point of annoying, and can put down anything with ease

Mantis.  Surprisingly the starter weapons are really holding there own in ME3 both SP and MP.
