The Ending : Shepard as a monomyth. Games 1-3 were all stories by Stargazer.

I don't see a problem with it. It was a legendary moment. Why not tell stories?

I think the Stargazer scene is meant to say "Shepard was so awesome we still talk about him 10,000 years from now" rather than "Your entire ME experience was a second-hand account, lol".

Had the ending been less "polarising", it would have been a nice accompniment.

At least Buzz got a cameo

Not at all. That's why we mostly get "fade to black" continuing with "then they woke up" ^^

Don't lie. We all know that old man detailed every explicit encounter to that child in excruciating detail.

Either he's a pedophile or they have really loose sexuality laws in the far far distant future. Not sure which.

Also, someone else already analised Mass Effect Series in a hero's journey scope, and the conclusion is that 3 ultimately failed to complete the final part of it.

I didn't invest in this trilogy to have it all based on some senile old man's unreliable narration. Period.

Also, "The Shepard".

WHaT! The senile is telling your story. You are a legend. What is the problem?

Brian: Yes, but, theoretically, if someone watched the events of that simulation from start to finish, only to find out that none of it really happened, I mean you don't think, that would, j-- be just like a giant middle finger to them

Stewie: Well, hopefully, they would have enjoyed the ride.

Brian: I don't know, man. I think you'd ****** a lot of people off that way.

That is fair enough. You should read his post though. It seems very likely that this was BioWare's intent. Failed or not. Rather than any indoctrination theory, or even rushed ending.

They simply did not realise that the characters and plotlines are what matters to us in these games. Well... to me atleast.

If the ending was good I really wouldn't have minded that scene. Being called The Shepard would of been quite cool in that, seemingly thousands of years later your Shep is still remembered for it all. Wasn't to be...

I'm sorry, but Buzz Aldrin did a terrible job voice acting that Stargazer. In his defense, the lines were incredibly weak and unbelievable. "My sweet."  In my opinion the Stargazer scene is the worst part of it all.

This makes things even worse.

And it doesn't excuse the plot holes and incoherencies.

If this is the case that was a terrible, terrible idea.
It would completely invalidate any kind of choice at all.

Pretty much what I took away from the ending. Mass Effect is a story told by Grampa Stargazer to his dumb miniature-adult child.

Why that makes it any more acceptable, though, I don't know. I certainly don't think it does.

Our efforts are reduced to a fable told by some old man we don't know and don't care about some time in the future on a planet we're not familiar with to some kid we also don't know.

It cheapens the entire story.

The whole "This happened millions of years in the past" thing is so cliche for SciFi. As is the "Adam and Eve" scenario (which was also in the ending via Joker and EDI and, on a side note, butchered Battlestar Galactica's ending).
