but on a serious note: this problem is not ME specific, as graphics and gameplay progress we seem to be going backwards as far as AI goes.

Yes. I'd like to know if my squadmates have done even 10% of the total squad damage. Squadmate AI is still miles and miles behind Gears of War, Resident Evil 5 and million other games.
Resident Evil 5. Man that game was crazy! I sure wish they kept Wesker alive! He was my Favorite Villian.

Yes. And even the enemy AI can be pretty stupid, though it is significantly smarter and more aggressive than it is in ME2.
true. Especially Insanity - got flanked a lot more then "just your average hide and shoot"

you would think by now, they'd fix it...
I'll give them ME1, but ME2 wasn't fix at all.............and now they had the opporutunity to deal with it since ME1.......yet still i see now progress

I was goofing around with Tali/Ashley on the last Rannoch mission today, and I was letting them do most of the killing. They killed one of the geth primes while I was fighting the other two. I was telling them what to do, of course, but when I did, they were pretty effective. I press Z on my keyboard, which orders your squad to fire at the enemy with only their weapon. No powers.
Your squad can be good if you know how to use them. Hardcore difficulty by the way.

Just now, I'm replayng ME2 and I'm finding that manually directing them to take cover sometimes results in them just staring at the wall and not firing.

What bothers me is that they can't seem to follow me. I'll turn around and my squadmates won't be behind me. Or I'll be in the middle of a firefight and my squadmates will be nowhere to be seen.
had that happend to me today. I was at the sancutary and the exact same thing happened.
BTW - Insanity is NOT fun when you have no squad mates with nor if there listening to your commands

lucky for you then. It's not fun when you you're playing on Insanity and you rely on them much more then the regular "normal mode"

I personally don't find that much trouble with the AI, but I *do* wish that they'd put in a bit more effort sometimes.
Also, I think that the AI in ME1 was better. Back then they'd kill enemies with their guns. They don't seem to do that as much in 2 and 3. Their use of powers was bad, so if you wanted to keep their abilities open, you'd have to remove that check from settings and micromanage them.

Nope, I've never issued them a go here command sense ME I notice they die faster that way I only tell them to use magic when I need it and they do that job just fine. I have noticed though they die way less in 3.
I've noticed that too. Espeically in ME2, Garrus was always the first to die. Grunt on the other hand stayed alive all the time.....even on Insanity..
don't get that priviledge in ME3. No Krogan Squad Mate...
they do use they're magic in ME3.......but they can't seem to hit a target for the life of them....
Garrus with his Sniper Rifle misses almost all the time...or other squad mates, shot duration is terribly short. I do 95% of the killing why they do.........5%?? that's being generous LOL!

Best squad AI I've ever played with/against was in Republic Commandos (admittedly, the original FEAR (maybe 3, I didn't notice) was extremely good).

rate your percentage on how much you do on then your squad mates? 95% to 5% ratio?

What I found to be more disturbing about squadmates/"henchmen" as they're called in the files is their damage-modifiers; in ME2 it was, mostly, halved for most weapons(varied between 0.4-0.6 for most weapons for some reason; it is kind of annoying that the process of modifying that for dlc-weapons is a royal PIA).
Now in ME3, if I've checked correctly, it was reduced by 2 thirds.
Luckily enough it's easy to adjust this so they can actually do some damage with their guns. Although accuracy is still an issue sure enough.

The AI certainly seems better than it used to be; it's not perfect by any means, but it's better than the two previous games. In past games, I distinctly recall squad mates getting stuck on absolutely nothing or telling me they couldn't go anywhere when there was nothing obstructing their movement! Nothing like that occurred in ME3 (for me at least) but maybe I was just lucky.
yeah! i definitely remember a lot of those parts. was very annoying. I just believe the game would be more better and well received better if they fix this issue

Squad AI is horrible, but if it was any smarter the game would be even easier than it is already.

Enemy AI is actually pretty good, especially with Cerberus. We just have a lot more tools to circumvent things like Turrets and Combat Drones.

what difficulty you playing on? Because if you're playing on Insanity, then it's not easy. Unless you're at lvl 60 with all weapons upgraded X
but even then, I'm not looking speaking of the game being easy..........but more enjoyable with better Squad AI.
