It's a lot better than the first two games, and if you know how to issue the right commands to them, at the right time, it's actually pretty good. Keep in mind, they also deal increased damage to a target if you tell them to attack it.

Yes. I'd like to know if my squadmates have done even 10% of the total squad damage. Squadmate AI is still miles and miles behind Gears of War, Resident Evil 5 and million other games.

That's how they wants things to works, or else they wouldn't have nerfed squadmates damages so badly.
That's a TPS, not an RPG so you are supposed to do the shooting, not let your squadmates do it for you.

Yes squad mates are very bad, sometimes there is no marker when i select a place to go and other times they are no where near me so i am fighting alone for a long time.

A very big bug in the game that needs fixing.

man. you said it well. I agree whole heartily

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. The number of times your squad mates just stand there and don't even fire is incredibly annoying, also immersion breaking. Have you also noticed how unfinished the game is in relation to where you tell them to go? There are many areas where you literally can't get a way-marker to appear on some floors. This game really was rushed out.

YES! VERY TRUE!

numerous times, this occured

remmember this is an RPG/Action game. so I would expect the squad AI be higher.

ME1-ME2 were what you said, ME3 isn't.

I thought they were better than ME2 actually, I always had to manually position my squad in ME2 insanity or they'd do something retarded and I'd lose access to their powers. In ME3 manually positioning was the exception rather than the norm, the only time I can really remember doing it is on missile defense in London, but with banshees, brutes and a reaper blasting away at them, they died in about 20 seconds anyway.

It doesn't matter anyway, you barely even need them, they're there for story and a minor distraction for enemies

Yeah, I often feel like I'm doing all of the work and that the only use of the squadmates is their powers.

They seem far too passive at the wrong times. I've tried out a load of guns (mostly assault rifles because I take Garrus and Ashley a lot) and they seem to just take a few shots and then go back into cover. I noticed with the vindicator they literally fire 1 burst (3 bullets) and take cover again and repeat the process slowly. Same thing with the saber and other slow firing weapons. I even noticed that with the black widow, which has a 3 bullet "magazine," Ashley would fire one shot and then take cover and reload, every single time.

There's also multiple times where they take cover but simply just sit there and never peek out to fire a shot, even after ordering them to attack a target.

I'm still trying to find out which guns they're actually competent with. Perhaps it's just the difficulty because I do play on hardcore/insanity? So far, I haven't really found any apart from maybe the falcon or single-shot sniper rifles. But even then, they will try to shoot when the enemy is in cover...

Yeah I've noticed that too with the weapons...they only fire one-shot yet my Black Widow would fire three.
definitely is frustrating.

I know ME2 the squad AI was worst then ME3. I remember bringing Garrus and he'd be the first to die (always)
thankfully I also brought Grunt. Grunt was reliable with his Fortification and Krogan Rage. (Even on Insanity) he still be alive.

One if BW would ever decide on bringing more then just two squadmates. Be nice to see if they could try to work something out as having 3 or 4.

It's funny how AI reached it's apex with Far Cry 1 and FEAR 1.

guess any suggestion regarding intelligence doesn't sit well with the ones handing out the budget.

a lot peole think that of higher intelligence means making the game easier is not settling.

IMO the game be a lot more enjoyable if squad AI was increased. it would rid of frustrations quickly.

i did't think the squadmates where that bad tbh. If you are having problems with squadmates dying take james, he almost never dies.

were you a fan of Grunt in ME2? I remember bringing him (even on Insanity) he always was reliable. His fortification and Krogan Rage was awesome. Made him unstoppable.

to bad he wasn't brought back in ME3

Yeah, i was gutted grunt was not a squadmate in ME3. James fills the same role as Grunt did in ME2, he's an amazing meatshield who almost never dies(even on insanity), he can set up tech bursts as well as trigger them. Probably the best squadmate in the game if you are not playing a biotic class.
