Yes, purebloods can only have ardat-yakshi children. And ardat-yakshi themselves can't have children. This is why there are still asari, even though before they discovered space travel their race consisted exclusively of purebloods. Sound logic.TSgt_ShaneV wrote...
I never got the Liara thing too. Don't they realize that their 6 blue children will be soul sucking, life ending AY babies (Liara is a pureblood)? Think of all the lives you'll be saving...
Ok an honest question to Liara fans, she's a pureblood right? So Matriarch Benezia is also pureblood? Then doesn't this make Liara an Ardat-Yakshi? So she can't have babies anyway + she will suck our soul ?
Of course this only applies if she/benezia a pureblood
Ardat Yakshi is a genetic disease that is more prevalent in purebloods. It's still only a 1/100 chance.
Besides only Liara is said to be pureblood.

If I don't romance a character, than there's not much they do. Ashley/Kaiden can be literally kicked off the ship/killed. Tali can be killed off, along with Garrus. Thane dies no matter what. Jack/Miranda are decent, but have no real romance in ME3. Jacob, well, he's Jacob. Also the same reason as Jack. And homosexual relations don't float everyone's boats (not because I'm a homophob).
So Liara can be romanced by all, can't die, and is pretty much written into the role of being the canon LI. And that's probably why I can't stand her as my romance. She pretty much worships the ground you walk on. No disrespect for Liara fans, but now I know why I don't want to romance her.

I got no issue with her as a platonic love for ManShep, but she simultaneously strikes me as Mary-Sue-ish (Super-smart, super-gifted biotic, lives for over 1000 years but is presently really youthful and sexy, ignores tragedy in her life until Thessia, etc.) as well as trying too hard (completely obsessed with Shepard and seemingly always agrees with him or bends over backwards).
That's why from ME2 on I always preferred Tali's character. Smart but not a nerd or braniac, feminine but not oversexualized, capable in combat but not a juggernaut, emotionally tough but clearly vulnerable, constantly goes out of her way to help others but is really grounded towards what she believes.
I think the writing of the latter is head and shoulders above the former, and that's why many of my romances feature Tali and none feature Liara. I base my choices off writing quality (I think Ashley is written okay, so I choose her a few times, for example) for the sake of literary enjoyment, and personally, I can't get much literary enjoyment out of the prospect of a Liara romance.
Actually, I´m pretty sure you can find plenty of people who will view Tali as a Mary-Sue charcter too. Even some of your descriptions of her are used to describe a Mary-Sue character.
But really; the ME universe is LITTERED with Mary´s and Stu´s, so yeah.
I don't see how that's the case. Her character is written to have strengths, but she's littered with flaws that can and sometimes do prevent her from being able to be "better."
One of the overriding characteristics of a Mary-Sue is the "always gets her way" aspect; being able to move mountains with minimal effort. Liara is a talented archaelogist, biotic, information broker, becomes the all-powerful and all-knowing Shadow Broker, etc. Tali? Keeps getting prodded into things by other people and doesn't always come through (Haestrom, Freedom's Progress, Admiralty, anyone?). Her weaknesses and incapabilities interfere with her chances to get things done that other characters might be able to do. A lot.
Tali becomes an admiral in an unusual young age. I don´t view that as a "flaw". And really those other flaws you are tlaking about doesn´t actually relate to her character and her personality being flawed. They are more products of the people she encounters incapabilities, then her own.

Mass effect 1 she had the most adorable innocence about her. Mass effect 2 she saved your body and was the main reason you are not a reaper husk. mass effect 3 she puts your time capsule together and offers blue babies.
O yea...and she found schematics for the crucible
Put a ring on it already!
My only complaint was her personality shift from ME1 to ME2. She regains some of that sweetness in ME3, but she never seems to be the same. I agree with all the rest, though - of all the characters in the series LI or no, Liara is the one that's always there for you, in some way or another.

I think Liara has a lot of fans because
1. She's presented from the beginning as the main romance choice.
2. She's playboy girl with huge breasts from space.
3. She's into both genders, vastly widening her possibilities. Many Liara's fans play femshep. Most of them are male IRL.
4. She gets much more spotlight than any other crewmate. Even when she's not in the crew.
Could say she's the obvious mainstream option. When I see those polls that pop up every second day, I'm always surprised how characters like Garrus and Tali are that close to Liara as the favorite ME squadmate... you know, considering that one is ass ugly and the other wears a helmet 24/7, both have straight-only sexual orientation, aren't incredibly attractive physically and show diferent personality flaws.
I guess all hope is not lost yet for the world in which we live.
You know, I have always wondered why noone ever says that Tali and Garrus had too much exposure in the series. Really, they can be your squadmates in all three games. Liara can only be that in two of them, and in the first you can even choose to recruuit her rather late in the game.
And as for ME2: Well, before LotSB was released she was barely a footnote in the story: "Oh, hi Shepard! Yeah I´m an informationsbroker. Sure, I can tell you where the drell and the justicar are. And while you are at it, can´t you hack some terminals for me?? Thanks.
BTW: I also saved your life. Bye!!" Yeah, alot of exposure
So, really Garrus and Tali fans are the ones who should be least offended by Liara. I mean; should we hate those two characters too because they got more exposure than say Ashley and Kaiden??

Liara is perfect.
Compare Tali on the other hand. In ME2 during her loyalty mission, despite the admiration that she has for Shepard, she makes it pretty clear that she has her own opinion on how things should be, and she makes that abundantly clear to him.
I agree with DaftArbiter in the sense that Tali is for poor choice of words very real Each of us have this ideal image of a partner but realistically speaking, we are all different individuals. Disagreements will happen and difference of opinions exist.
Just think for one moment without metagaming knowledge, how would you play the Priority Rannoch Mission (and when i say without metagaming knowlege, this means also you do not know there will exist a Paragon / Renegade option for the Geth - Quarian confrontation)
I'll give you a simple example. It was only recently I played DA2 midway. I played DA2 as is without any form of spoilers or metagaming knowledge. I brought Bethany down to the Deep Roads.
Yeah, against my mother's wishes but fully supporting my sister Bethany's desire was the best option I took at that time
How does this relate to ME3? The metagaming knowledge. Same with ME2. How would our actions differ during ME2 Tali's loyalty mission? Sell out her dad for the sake of the Quarian race? Protect her dad?
How about ME3? Don't upload data? What then will your answer be to Legion's question "Creator Zorah, does this unit have a soul?"
I think in that essense Tali's character was done well - kept real
And that is why I´m grateful for the paragon/charm options

Also the character growth as a whole kinda worked for me to. Shes this innocent school girl, looses a good friend *or LI* and then looses another trying to get back the first and becomes a lot more harden and then in shadow broker she becomes this bad ass. Also the "little blue children" gets me every time.
Also, after you rez javik on Eden Prime and joker says "has liara stopped bouncing? im pretty sure there was some bouncing. " i cant stop smiling at the thought of some nerdy school girl squealing at seeing a book author.....or some nerd standing out side a game stop at 1145 am waiting for ME3 *shifty glance*......

Yeah... but Have you seen those things!?! they are like DAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAtastic. I challenge anyone to look at an image of the asari baby with the N7 tags hovering above her face and not daw
Well, I know I can´t win that challenge cause I´ve already lost it... Many times.

Then there was the Shadow Broker DLC.
She didnt do much in ME3. There should have been some more of a romantic scene after Thessia gets invaded and destroyed...
She used to be cute and nerdy. She changed after Shep died.
