Woo is confusing literary pacing with the fundamental flaws of said pacing.wagsnout wrote...

Focus testing. yes we do, but probably not to the extent you're thinking.Dr_Hello wrote...
Hey Stanley, I have a general question.
Out of curiosity,
Does BioWare, before releasing a game, do game testing and surveys? such as, getting a private group of testers to play the entire prefinal game version and get their feedback, so then BW proceeds to finalizing the game?
No-one thought it was worth focus testing the ending to a trilogy the size of Mass Effect? Seriously? I don't like to bash Bioware but thats a serious lack of forward planning. This was a huge release and you didn't think to do dress rehersal of the finale?
When a writer publishes a set number of books pertaining to a universe it is read through many venues and editing lines before going into a publishing press. It's the NUMBER ONE facet in the literary world to have a coherent universe and canon from the get go, and have it end in a satisfying and clear manner. When a company like Bioware prides itself on story, I expect the same level of see through otherwise it's meaningless canon that is blow out of the metaphorical airlock with the same reguard as a Xenomorph in Alien.
And the simple fact that Woo has just said "Not to the extent you are thinking" proves my point. I'm sorry, but if anyone is that quick to throw your company under the bus with statements like that the company needs to stop writing universe canon and go on doing something more akin to PR rush tactics (as we have seen.)
End of story.

I know you've probably already answered few dozen posts regarding the endings, so I'm going to ask something that doesn't have anything to do from the endings, for now.
You guys planning on creating more hub worlds? I thought someone from bioware said last year that there would be larger hub worlds like Illium and whatnot.
I pour rather large glasses of scotch, so you have me for a little while yet.
Not something I can really comment on, sorry. Not only am I not on the ME team (and thus can't answer your question even if I wanted to), we have rather specific schedules when it comes to announcements and discussing future content.

I view Joker as a representative for the player, it was such a breath of relief to hear what remarks he had on what's happening in the galaxy. Did you do the scene where he's talking about the Citadel from the bench in the Presidium? You could cut a diamond with that sarcasm, brilliant!!
To clarify, I only did the scenes in ME2. I'm not sure who did them in ME3, but I'll certainly let them know that their work is appreciated.
Sarah Campbell and Bethany Westmoreland, the War Room guards, were also great player representatives. Their comments leaving the War Room at the end of missions were well done, and really reaffirmed my feelings on the state of the galaxy. I especially liked the stuff on Cerberus and "...the birds don't quit when things get tough, that's for sure..."

Thanks for the insight, John, and enjoy the remaining scotch. I gotta say to me: scotch is third though to Canadian Whiskey (2) and bourbon (1). Mmm KY Bourbon, I want to pour me a glass now...

There are authors like Brandon Sanderson who'll write out 100k world bibles for his works and creates detailed chapter outlines prior to starting a rough draft. There are people like GRRM and Stephen King who both write from the seat of their pants.

Bruichladdich 15 year. I have a bottle of Tallisker 12 at work, and a Glenlivet kicking around.. somewhere, either at a friend's house or in a closet somewhere.

Thanks for responding! Also, I really really really hope you guys do have something wild and amazing up your sleaves regarding those endings, whether you address them in DAO Awakening style expansions or alternations. Because like...as they are now it just completely sucks all the hope and dreams out of me. Like I said before, ME3 is like discovering a new piece of Mozart no one has ever listened to, but then at the end he starts playing the keyboard cat song. It just doesn't fit in to well man.

Ahhh, single malt Islay here. More to the point, Lavagulin. It's like you open a door and there's Bethany with a sword in her mouth and the sea in her face, with a well rounded taste of smoked oak. Edit: Meant Isabel of course, and she's biting the sword or whatever it is! And she has tang in her hair!

I'm a Guinness person myself. Through and through. Though if I'm going to drink whiskey, I prefer a Kentucky bourbon, especially Jim Bean.

LOVE Bourbon Barrel. I actually think I prefer it out of the bottle too. Draft is very aromatic.

Honestly, I don't think it's possible for anyone who's worked on the franchise extensively to approach the games in the same way as a fan who's been here since the beginning. By our very experiences we are already looking at things from a different perspective than you - while you romanced one or two people over your ME2 playthroughs, I've romanced all of 'em. Multiple times. My job, for six and a half months, was to scour the conversations on the Normandy and make sure to document any kind of weird cinematic design bugs that I could find.
I've already seen how sausage is made. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy a hot dog from time to time, but even if I still love them, I'm looking at them in a different way than you are. It's not something I can really do much about - I can't just forget the six and a half months I spent checking every possible permutation and variation of every possible dialogue that would fire on the ship. That's not to say that there aren't some people who can approach the games without their experience being coloured in such a fashion, but I don't think either Stan or myself are that person.
I think you underestimate how thoroughly some of us have played through this game...
I, for one, may or may not have seen the Miranda romance enough I can recite some of the dialogue from memory, and yes, have romanced everyone multiple times. Suppose that does not say much on my priorities but I stand by it being time well spent. Had I not taken to writing more in recent years, I likely would have completed the games more.
With all this in mind, John. I must ask, which have been your favorite romances in both ME and DA?
