It's like everything BioWare I once loved has been EA-fied with their "plausible deniability" PR safeguards.

Disappointed.

Tim Schafer is like the only good guy in this ugly business anymore.

With me it's not just the ending,it's how it happens.
I had a bought and played all three games and DLC,a TMS of 7137 which=3568 EMS had 100% on planets and miss Purgatory electric mission, which I blame more on the journal being not as clear as ME2.So of course I didn't get the best ending. (What is best is debatable)Why?Multiplayer was not supose to be needed for the single player game.I even read the fine print on the case to be sure. It's not just the ending.Image IPB

It's the NUMBER ONE facet in the literary world to have a coherent universe and canon from the get go, and have it end in a satisfying and clear manner.

No, it's not.

There are authors like Brandon Sanderson who'll write out 100k world bibles for his works and creates detailed chapter outlines prior to starting a rough draft. There are people like GRRM and Stephen King who both write from the seat of their pants.

A tangent, but reading Stephen King's On Writing cured me of what, for me, was an unfortunate habit - trying to plan out each and every bit of my writing. That's not to say that it's for everyone, though - it's a lot easier to write yourself into a corner when you don't have any kind of outline. But for me, the way my mind works makes it almost detrimental to plan things out too much in advance. I do best when it's off-the-cuff - the story I want to tell exists almost in its entirety in my head, after all, and putting it down on paper as an 'outline' seems to ruin something in the translation.

This is not meant as a comment on anything ME related, by the way - I just find it fascinating how different people have completely different writing styles.

you know the whole hiring a director and a lead writer who don't like C&C and RTS at all to beggin with to work on the grand-pa of all RTS

You know, remarking that the people who are interacting with you are 'not important enough' is really not the right approach to take. Beyond that, of course, neither of us have 'moderator' as a job title. We're both developers who do the moderation thing on the side, generally in our spare time. I'm a Cinematic Designer and Stan's Quality Assurance.

i'm talking about a simple forum moderator in you guys cases you are the only contact we have with Bioware it self again sorry i have worded it wrong

what i mean is you should be paid for playing through all 3 games more then once

Thanks for responding! Also, I really really really hope you guys do have something wild and amazing up your sleaves regarding those endings, whether you address them in DAO Awakening style expansions or alternations. Because like...as they are now it just completely sucks all the hope and dreams out of me. Like I said before, ME3 is like discovering a new piece of Mozart no one has ever listened to, but then at the end he starts playing the keyboard cat song. It just doesn't fit in to well man. :(

This made me laugh & spit beer out of my nose. I pictured keyboard cat waiting at the top of that lift instead of StarChild.

I know you've probably already answered few dozen posts regarding the endings, so I'm going to ask something that doesn't have anything to do from the endings, for now.

You guys planning on creating more hub worlds? I thought someone from bioware said last year that there would be larger hub worlds like Illium and whatnot.

He doesn't work on ME. He's a DA guy.

To Mister Epler: Completely OFF TOPIC, but if you like whiskey, and you like beer, may I recommend Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Great sipping for when you want fine taste, but want to be able to drink more than a couple and not have to go home in a taxi.

LOVE Bourbon Barrel. I actually think I prefer it out of the bottle too. Draft is very aromatic.

I like to switch it up.  The bar next door sells growlers of it, and since I'm a closet alcoholic with a penchant for night-walks...  B)

I pour rather large glasses of scotch, so you have me for a little while yet.

Not something I can really comment on, sorry. Not only am I not on the ME team (and thus can't answer your question even if I wanted to), we have rather specific schedules when it comes to announcements and discussing future content.

What kind of scotch? I'm a single malt, highlands region man myself

Bruichladdich 15 year. I have a bottle of Tallisker 12 at work, and a Glenlivet kicking around.. somewhere, either at a friend's house or in a closet somewhere.

Macallan 18 myself. Nice choice though, rocks, water, straight?  I like 2 ice cubes, splash of water at most

I, for one, may or may not have seen the Miranda romance enough I can recite some of the dialogue from memory, and yes, have romanced everyone multiple times. Suppose that does not say much on my priorities but I stand by it being time well spent. Had I not taken to writing more in recent years, I likely would have completed the games more.

With all this in mind, John. I must ask, which have been your favorite romances in both ME and DA?

I really enjoyed the Garrus romance in ME2 - it was tender and believable in all the right ways, and his awkwardness just made it better. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the others - but that was probably my favourite.

As for DA? I liked Isabela. She was fun, and I liked that it was obvious that the 'devil may care' attitude was, to a large degree, a way to keep herself from ever being hurt. Though I do still have a soft spot for Leliana - she was my Warden's love.

Mr. Woo

I think it would help the situation of somebody assositated with BioWare specifically stated,

"We understand x, y and z are issues for all of you. We can't promise that we will rectify all of these, because we still have a desire to remain loyal to the vision we set forth with when first creating the game. However we are trying our best to do so that we can satisfy all parties involved"

Just give us something that explicitly states that BioWare actually understands what our issues with the ending are. That will go a long way to building more trust with all of us.

In all fairness to BioWare, their GM did come out and say something similar. Paraphrasing, but keeping with the generally condescending tone of his statement:

"We understand a very tiny group of people are whining and don't like the ending, despite the fact that critics and anyone with brains believes that the ending is utterly brilliant...because it is. But we're looking at clarifying it for the whiners because they were clearly too stupid to understand the incredibly artistic ending we developed."

So, basically, they've flat out told us that they'll "clarify" for us without changing a damned thing from the A, B, or C ending they gave us. The only upside is that they like lying, so perhaps we'll get more variety with the endings once the DLC comes out.

Now I have a question, but it's not exactly mass effect related. My toilet is clogged, should I pour liquid plumber, pour bleach down the drain, or just hope it goes away? Or do you think I should call a professional?

Important question:  Has it begun speaking to you?  If so, has it threatened to, and I quote, "Consume all the stars, until the ever-cold stills the universe!"?

If so, please contact a professional.

Thanks Mr Woo, for engaging the fans in a discussion for a bit. I appreciate hearing from you guys even if I disagree with what is said.

Hopefully, you can pick out the posts that are polite and respectful and continue to be patient with the hot heads.

Cheers.

You're welcome. I wouldn't be here if I didn't love our community like I do. And despite what people say, we do listen and we can pick out the gems amid the chaff. We have the technology.

We don't expect people to like us or agree with us all the time. But we would prefer it if people freaked out a little less. :)

Well Mr. Woo we would not be here if we did not love the Bioware ;)
That is the reason we are analysing every word that we get from the devs, we care and we want info, sure some people are rageing and being idiots but still many of the fans who are dissapointed are still here and are having seriouse discutions, we just hope that you could meet us half way, give us something that would "calm" us, if you say that you wont do anything about the end then say so then we can drop this and leave or the other way around.

And to be honest, their where alot of promises from certain devs that, where not lived up to, im sure that you know what we mean, you might see it differently because you have most of the info, but we dont, we see your favorite series washing down the drai right now.

Isabela was definitely my favorite DA2 love interest.  I hope we see more of her in DA3 :)

Come over to the DA forums and I'll gladly discuss whatever I can about DA with you, or even game design in general. Or, heck, shoot me a PM and I'll do the same.

These parts, though, I'm something of a guest. So I try to keep to either ME, or somewhat off-topic rambling.
