You don't need to split anything. You can choose how many to sell at a time, and that is enough.

If you have several armors in one stack, obviously equipping the stack means equipping one suit of armor.

You can't choose how many to put in storage however, or how many to donate (but splitting stacks wouldn't help there).

It would be useful if you use multiple archers in one party and want to split arrow stacks.

With regard to healing potions... you can have the same stack of potions available (on the quickbar) to all your characters to draw from when they need it. So for that situation, I think not splitting the stack is actually better (what if your warrior happens to need 6, while your mage only needs 3?)

The arrow stacks is a good case of where splitting could be necessary, though... if you have one stack of 99 Fire Arrows, and 2 archers, and you want them both to use those fire arrows, then you currently have a problem...

These work the same as the pot on the quick bar, you can equip the same stack of arrows on both characters.

You can? I am not at home so I can't verify this, but I thought that, once I equip the stack of arrows on one character, it disappears from my inventory, so I cannot select it again on another character !?!

Yeah, completely unnecessary since everyone has the same inventory and everyone carries the same potions and items.

What about the other way around? I want to merge 2 stacks into 1...

I have something (flasks I think) and some where stored in my chest the others I was carrying. When I removed the flasks from the chest to my inventory, this remained as 2 seperate stacks even thought the total was les than 99!

max is at 99 but if you have, let's say 25/25 when you close the inventory it automatically set it to 50

No, I was mistaken. I thought I had done this but apperantly I had 2 stacks of fire arrows.

the problem with arrows is, apparently if you have too many you cannot equip the arrows and a bow.   I have a stack of 91 fire arrows and when I equip the arrows the bow unequips.... and when I equip the bow, the arrows unequip.  There must be a limit on how many arrows you can equip and still hold the bow.

Nevermind...   I was trying to equip bolts with a bow.
