Love the game :wizard:...but for the non-ending.:(

As I had prepare myself to the end of the trilogy, and therefore to what I thought would be the the loss of one of my favourite game characters, I was in shock at the end of the credit as it wasn't the end of the saga. My impression was that I'd have to wait for ME4 to know what really happened and to have all the issues raised throughout the 3 games finally resolved.

I hope that, if the plan was to have another Shep chapter, BW does not give in to the pressure and just release a DLC with a different ending as it would do no justice to the game. If I'm wrong, than I'll eat the cake Image IPB

^^^^Yes, it is called "tough love".

Anyway, to the OP.

EA's Tactics: Decieve, inviegle, obfuscate
Bioware's Tactics: "We listen to our customers, it's just that we ignore them as well."

You actually appreciate that? Well, whatever helps you sleep at night, hermano.

But really, I agree. I don't understand how they could have done SO WELL with the first 99% of the game, then drop the ball so horribly.

And the worst part is, they did everything so right. If this was any other science fiction that didn't have likable characters or a deep protagonist, I wouldn't care. But the reason the fans care so much, is because Bioware made the characters amazing, and the world immersive.

In a way, the ending was horrible because the rest of the trilogy was amazing.

This is exactly how I feel.

I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. I'm waiting to see whether they intended a DLC with a real ending all along. If they slipped up, I think I can forgive. If they knowingly released a game without an ending, I don't think I'll appreciate that at all.

I have always loved BioWare and their games and every one of them is a release-day purchase for me. 99% of Mass Effect 3 was insanely badass and I literally cheered out loud when the thresher maw pwned the reaper and felt really depressed when I realized I could have saved Kelly but didn't, etc. etc.

I am having a difficult time believing this is truly the ending they had in mind for this trilogy, artistic or otherwise. There must be more to this story. It's absolutely not that I expected a happy ending - I actually thought we'd find out that Project Lazarus was only able to revive Shepard for a limited time (akin to Babylon 5). What I did expect from a game with a world this fully realized and a codex that I have thoroughly read at least 3 times was an ending that made sense and brought closure.

As mad as I was (am) at the end of the game, it only hurt as much as it did because the rest of the game before it was so amazing. It really did live up the hype and exceed my expectations, it wasn't just good, or as good as the second one or even a little better. It was an order of magnitude better. Just like how they improved the second game from the first one, I saw that level of awareness of what fan's wanted and the level of care and blood, sweat and tears the creators put into it. Every two minutes I was running into some character from ME1 or ME2 and being amazed that they were included. The new melee weapon, no more hunting for resources, no more vehicle driving, new characters, it made me so happy once again that I picked up the first game years ago. I love the multiplayer and that wasn't something I was even asking for, so bioware managed to surprise me with something I didn't even know I wanted. I even like that there is now a gay romance option for shephard. I don't intend to play it myself, but knowing it's in there, and some people who are gay can now play as their own charcter, well that makes me proud of bioware. The whole darn game was about uniting people against a common threat, putting aside our differences to work together. So, kudos for that too. For letting people play this game however they want to and have their own adventure in such a fantastic universe.

Also, you didn't force me to drive around in the Mako again. I wish I could have blown it up myself in the second game, but at least you met me half-way and let me see the wreckage.

Signed. So, so signed.

You've always been my favourite game developer, BioWare. My raised eyebrow at the ending doesn't change that one bit.

Hated the ending, but BioWare has given me some of the most unique, magical experiences I've ever had in a video game environment. Mass Effect has touched me profoundly in the same way that Harry Potter did when I was a child. Yeah, maybe that's kind of weird, but I'm so thankful for the opportunity to have known Shepard and all of her friends. I didn't and still don't feel as alone when I'm playing the games.

Initially, after beating ME3, I felt that I never wanted to go near another ME game for fear that it would be too taxing emotionally. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I trust  BioWare to "repair" this. I'm now over halfway through my Insanity run on ME3 and have played many hours of MP with my friends, and am having a kick ass time doing so. I can't and will not write them off after they have produced such a beautiful trilogy for us, along with a multitude of other premium titles for our enjoyment. If they can give us a near perfect game (and let's face it: no game is perfect--objectively), then they can fix the ending for us.

Most of the games are good but it is bewildering that they are surprised by the reaction to the endings in DA2 and ME3.

If BioWare wants to avoid that issue in the future they have to do some unbiased focus testing, not just relying on their own inside people to give feedback. This is easier said than done but like any internal power structure that has had some success it is very tough for their own people to take them to task on issues. (As in I'm not sure a couple of mid level testers coming up to Casey and telling him 'this ending just blows, the fans are going to hate it.)

Well the rest of the game had multiple flaws that weren't that big of a deal or that I could personally overlook but that the ending just made fair game. Before the ending I would have given the game an 8, but after carefully pulling the game apart I would have to give it a 7. Due note that this is on an actual 1-10 scale and not the 7.5-10 scale that most reviewers use.

It was a good game that didn't quite live up to expectations, but that is more to do with the the expectations placed on it and not the game itself. It had a few too many technical issues the cutscene incompetence[most notably the stuff with Kai Leng ] was rage inspiring and entirely unacceptable. And too many plot lines, choices, and consequences just fell to the weigh side. The undoing of the Rachni decision is probably the most jarring example of this. Overall it was an enjoyable game whose shortcomings could be over looked had the ending pulled it all together at the end. Unfortunately the ending creates so many holes and loose threads that one can not help but to poke, prod, and pull. Once this starts things begin to unravel.

Once the pain begins to subside it is possible game can be picked up again and enjoyed, certainly there is enough here to warrant at least one separate play through. Unfortunately the ending can very much render this as a pointless exercise in the eyes of some.

Hold the line.

I totally loved 99% of ME3, and I loved ME1 & 2 as well as both Dragon Age games. I really appreciate Bioware's hard work and enjoy playing the games that they makes. I think they are really unique, especially the character interaction aspect.

Well of course, I think BioWare is an incredible company doing some fantastic and forward things that few others seem to do. They create the games that I love the most, and I don't want them to stop. Through them I've learned to be proud to call myself a gamer and really think about the characters I'm creating. I always find it sad that the devs and mods get a lot of flack when most of it is undeserved.

If I didn't love the franchise this much I certainly wouldn't be spending time on the forums expressing my opinion on the ending.

Well. I know how much hard work Casey and team had put into Mass Effect and I really appreciate that. ME's their baby since 8 years ago. A masterpiece of a franchise it has become is largely down to them, Seeing all the hate and backlash from fans about the ending's bound to hurt. While I do believe the ending should be changed - and I hope BW change it for the better - Casey and co deserved better.

However, honestly, there were more than just the ending that could have been so much better. There were many illogical plot holes, narrative incoherence, a noticeable dip in overall quality after curing the Genophage, bugs, nitpicks galore etc etc.

What I really want to see, and hope, but deep down knew that it may never happen, is Bioware do a Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition - a recreation of Mass Effect 3 with a whole new engine, revise and rewrite certain parts of the story, a game so polished, up to the level of Metal Gear Solid 4, that it'd go down in gaming history as one of the best, right where it deserves to be.

I basically hadn't played any games for some ten years before a colleague gave me his copy of DA:Origins, and I loved that to bits. Then I noticed there's a science fiction series, too. So I got myself this little game called Mass Effect, and I fell deeply in love with a new entire universe, a fantastic cast of characters, a setting. The atmosphere captured me, the music entranced me.

There hasn't been much of its kind anywhere else for a long time. Mass Effect is an awesome world.<3

And except for the last bit, ME 3 is an incredible piece of art that managed to push me through every emotional response possible -- hatred of myself when I seriously considered hiding the genophage bug from my friends, the bittersweet moment of Mordin riding that elevator up... Liara creating the seed pods and writing my Shepard's name in the stars...
I laughed out loud and couldn't keep a smile off my face for a long time after walking in on Garrus, uhhhh, getting his mandible caught, eh, on Tali's facemask...? :innocent:
When I got back from Tuchanka, and the hospital on the Citadel had changed into this makeshift gurney-ridden field hospital, asari were hunched down on the floor, crying over the bodies of loved ones, I couldn't take the pain for a while and had to shut down the game.

And then there was Garrus. Garrus VakarianB), space cowboy & bro. 'nuff said, really.

This game, this series is awesome. Yes, there were other flaws in ME 3, fine, but they vanished in an ocean of brilliant story telling. And I won't bother saying anything about the ending.

... very model of a scientist salarian...

I've been seeing some of the Bioware moderators who post in here say that they feel like they are constantly being attacked and are discouraged from posting in these forums because their words are dissected and taken out of context. I'd just like to say I thought the endings were plot-hole ridden and nonsensical but I love this game company and I loved 99% of Mass Effect 3.

I thought maybe we could use this thread to show Bioware that while we may hate the ending to their game we appreciate the hard work they put into the rest of the game and encourage them to interact more with their fans.
Am I the only one who thinks this way?

No you're not. Totally amazing game with a cop-out at the end BUT, there are sooo many great things and scenes and music and character builds and...you get the picture. I'm in for the DLC (s) as long as BW (EA in secret) gives us the back the ability to decide our fate, bittersweat or not.
