I don't know about "moron" (I'm not familiar enough to judge, nor do I actually care to try), but she does appear to be a "gamerr gurll." You know the sort.

I don't really mind, but her whole "I fellate video game controllers" rankles on people's nerves. The only thing it causes me is some vague secondhand embarrassment.

Hey! You wanna watch the way you say Gamer Girl!

Not "gamer girl," "gamerr gurll."

At any rate, I never understood the big hoopla some girls (usually young ones) feel the need to make, just because they happen to like video games. Seriously.

You know, I wouldn't mind Diana Allers if she were a well-rounded, interesting character that contributed positively to both the Normandy's overall environment and ME3's narrative/gameplay elements. As it is, however, she's mostly just THERE. I feel like Kei-9 had more to contribute.

And then there's the fact that it's Chobot. I don't hate Chobot, and for the most part I just ignore IGN, but the fact that they went through all that trouble to include her specifically when they could have hired a legit voice actor leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Combine that with the absolute waste of potential (dude, a war reporter can be kind of cool), and it all feels needlessly tacked on.

At least EDI got decent squadmate utility and some interesting character development to go with her panderlicious new form, ****** be damned. And there was, you know, effort put into her (default) character design (but the catsuits are dumb--bots don't need no swag). And Bioware was kind enough to give us a little self-satire and lampshade hanging to tone down the "lol sexbot" thing.

Look, Bioware. If something absolutely MUST be included in the game due to first-world/third-party reasons, be sure to make it mesh well with everything else. Give it some purpose other than "they told us to put it in there," and utilize its in-game potential to the fullest extent. You did okay with multiplayer and EDI, but Allers...

... Yeesh.

Am I the only person who doesnt have a problem with the Diana Allers idea?

The application of the idea was bad, but if Allers had some kind of questline that made her presence on the normandy meaningful.... I wouldn't have cared that she was from the internet.

The Diana Allers we got was completely underwhelming, and by the end I didnt even stop to see her after quests... but It had nothing to do with who she was based on. She was underused, thats my issue.

nobody cared about Miranda being a carbon copy of a real person.

We got her because they decided to use her and she likely has some fan appeal or she had friends at Bioware or something. Honestly, I'm pretty sure they didn't use her as an IGN bribe, because there are much better ways to bribe IGN then hiring some random reviewer from them. Like, tons better. Like pay IGN's higher-ups money.

And honestly, I dunno. I'd have to read previews, but I don't think she ever hid her involvement, did she?

Holy hell, though. This board is really quite immature and silly at times.

This decision hurt, for sure. If Chobot had been in the same ballpark as the otherwise flawless voice acting cast BW employe then it wouldn't smack you in the face so hard. But she is merely adequate in a field of completely believable, nuanced professionals. That plus the flawed face mapping and the absurd outfit serve as a constant reminder of the crass reasons this character was inserted. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Most major characters are carbon copies of real persons. People disliked Allers because:

1) Bad voice acting
2) Horrific uncanny valley face
3) Chobot is from IGN
4) Obvious, insulting "fanservice"
5) General uselessness.

I suppose there's a good number of people who also just dislike Chobot, but I believe the above are the main reasons.

That's precisely my point: she was too much of a waste.

nobody cared about Miranda being a carbon copy of a real person.

Miranda had both the face and voice of Yvonne, but Yvonne still acted (professionally!), and acted well.  Thus, Miranda doesn't seem like a needless add-on.  Needlessly sexualized, maybe, but she was a fairly decent character.

Allers, unfortunately, was too underused/underdeveloped to really be anything outside of "forced Chobot insert."  If they'd gone all the way with the whole embedded war reporter thing, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about who they got to play the part.

How awesome would it have been to have Dickey Chapelle on the Normandy?

Boobs not detected. Fails as a war reporter.

They added her for future DLC. She's actually "The Thing" from the John Carpenter movie before the events of the prequel movie. All of a sudden while in bed with Shepard her face expand to twice its size, Shepard doesn't notice anything at first, then it explodes in tentacles and kills him, then it kills the whole Normandy crew as it is swinging around our Sun, throwing it back in time. With its engines shot to hell, Diana Allers Thing winds up crashing it on Earth leading up the events of the films

I'm not sure why we got her. I don't have anything against her personally but i didn't find the character that interesting i would rather have had Emily Wong, i think she was much more developed. I liked that character.

I second the motion. Bioware, please have each and every one of your employees read Cheez' post, especially the bolded bit. In story-driven games like the ME series, in-universe considerations (internal consistency, believability, etc.) should always be given higher priority over out-of-universe pressures (desires for stupid fan service, backroom deals, pressures from the Boss Man).

She's there because someone felt that the game needed some piece of eyecandy, like Megan Fox or that chick who replaced Megan Fox.

Funny thing that.

She isn't terribly too good looking in real life, but her in-game model is just a soulless montrosity of creepiness.

This is the girl below here that isn't terribly too good looking in real life?
I'll have to wonder what standard you're used to calling good looking. Either that or it's HaterAide and her dogs got to you on her lawn before you could get back to the proper side of her fence. She's very pretty.

Similar to Yyvonne/Miranda though, they ended up getting me as far as "oh ya I see" but then limitations of the engine cause them to fall short, particularly at certain angles and under certain lighting. The character was sort of unnecessary too, but as annoyed as I am with Bioware over several things with this game, I can't understand why anyone would dislike this girl. Is she a moron or something?

I find chobot to be quite ugly. Problem?

There is sooo much I could say.
Shes horribly textured, and she has no use in the game. I mean seriously a +5 war asset? Bah.

She needs to GTFO my ship with Traynor. >.<

When I first met her, I thought she was a TMZ style tabloid reporter, not a legitimate news anchor. I think if this had been the direction they took with her, she would make much more sense. The bad outfit and voice acting would have fit.

Diana Allers, IMHO, was a relatively-fugly non-entity in a skanky dress who added absolutely nothing to the game. I too am baffled by her presence.
I would have watched her romance scene, for snicks, but I was too afraid of catching Scale Itch.

I preferred ME1 Ash. Not to girl out on you or anything, but everyone knows that if you have an oblong face, you don't wear shoulder length straight hair. It creates the illusion that your face is longer than it is. At any rate, I'm not sure of a man's perspective, but although I'd call her pretty, what I liked most about Ash was her attitude, pragmatism, and her no-nonsense presentation. Not too fond of her role (or look) in ME3.

...Still, would hit it/be BFF.

Thanks! Pretty much the same here, male perspective and all. Especially the bolded part.
