That's good.

Of course, they're concerned about their own profit, which is understandable...but still..

Capcom has become ridiculous in the past few years. Glad I dumped them years ago.

Nice... imagine buying a book without the last 10 pages that are sold separately. This is ridiculous.

Haha, lovely. I've been saddened by the lack of time to play all the good games I have accumulated recently. Now that I have no reason to buy the next Playstation, I might have time to catch up. Thank you, Sony.

That first link is disturbing indeed.... But I'd do it for ME. Heck even if it cost $20

no game should have the right to withhold the true ending of the game for dlc. Even for a game that is as epic and awsome as ME. If anything you should be more enraged, it just leads to more money grabbing schemes and if this was the plan for me3 then I am afraid I am going to have to well find a way to get around and get the ending for free.

Wow.

The future of gaming is not, if that is what indeed will be. Ouch.

And then publishers probably wonder why piracy is flourishing.

Because it has better client service.

Piracy was easy back in the days of Wolfenstien and Doom. ID Realms is still around, and still making games.

I was something of a hoarder until recently. I had every game that still worked (NES, Genesis, PS1 & 2) all went to the used game store. (Did you know that Marvel vs Capcom 2 is worth more than most 360 or PS3 games?)

I used the credit for a brand new copy of DA:Ultimate (Blood Dragon armor for ME2. Awesome. I really need a new Hard Drive.) I did buy a couple of used games, mainly those that got bad reviews but wanted to try anyway. (Aliens vs Predator for 360, I am disappointed. Would have been better to just port over AvP2 Gold multiplayer.)

My X-Box and it's games went to my mother and nephew. I figured they'd both like Knights of the Old Republic and Halo 2, and could trade in games they didn't like for a new WII game.

Resale is part of the value of a game.
Replayability is another part of the value.
Since heavily DRMed games on download are still $60, I'm going to assume prices aren't going to go down.

Increasing replay value will, oddly enough, not hurt used games. It will however, keep new games in circulation longer. Both sides win.

Removing resale value ... just makes the game worth less. Fewer customers will find sufficient value in the game to purchase it. Fewer customers will have the cash on hand to purchase it without being able to trade in the games they are no longer using.

Of course, I see a bit of a pattern in those who are most vocal against used games. X-Men Dimensions? Kinectimals? As hyped as Saint's Row was, I'm the type of person that finds GTA formula open world games to start to get stale and repetitive very quickly.

This is just..... I can UNDERSTAND charging dlc like LOTSB when they worked on it post realease, but to lock out content that is already on THE DAMN DISC? And then charging to unlock it???? That is just insane!! And to pay 1 dollar everytime you reloade a weapond in a game is just as crazy!

Publishers are greedy.  It'll come back to bite em though.
Picture this: Used game market is cut out just like all these publishers want.  X amount of people are unwilling to buy your game at its $60 new price on a whim.  You've already lost that sale.  You've also lost the potential for that customer to really enjoy the game and come back when the sequel comes out.  By cutting out used game sales, you're cutting out the best advertising for future products you will ever have.

One CD Projekt RED's devs said it best.   "We believe that DRM is not the way to make sales because there are two things. First of all, those people who are pirating the game, wouldn’t buy it in the first place, in my opinion. Or they are pirating it to check how the game plays because we haven’t released demos, and they go and buy the game anyway; if they like it, of course. And the second thing is that I think that if the people want to crack the game, the security systems, they will do it anyway."

Even though he's talking about piracy, the same concepts apply.

If this if the future for games then the industry will cut its own throat. Piracy will be rife and I condone it if developers and publishers greed gets to this frightening point. Capcom, your an embarrassment! EA beware..

That's what cracking is for my friends. If you want to try the game crack it. If you like it buy it. If they charge you for stuff that was supposed to be in the original game, crack it again.

Pretty much. They keep squeezing fans for every stinking cent, inventing more and more crap along the way, and then wonder why so many people pirate games. Their solution is a big fat piece of draconic DRM (I'm looking at you ubisoft). Way to alienate fans and cause even more people to just pirate the game or drop your games like a brick.

To be frank- but I don't really care.

It just means I'll buy less games if they want me to buy more per game. End result is about the same.

I'll always pay for quality work, and often - but if they burn me once (aka ME3) - it's going to be hard to get me back in the fold as a cash-cow.
There's a lot of other things to spend my time and money on and the companies need me more than I need them.

Exactly.

street fighter? people have been buying the same game for well over a decade now and are just starting to complain? :P

jesting (or not) aside, that is some pretty lame garbage on capcom's part, but I doubt EA would be allowed to get away with it. Between Bioware's games and the battlefield series alone, this is a pretty vocal crowd, and theres plenty other games they publish. Capcom on the other hand, well I'll just say I've never met a real "core" capcom fan in my life.

Kids these days are growing up playing with their parents iPhone or iPad... Console gaming might not be so popular in the future (there may not even be a future) if all these kids grow up on touch gaming....
