aw assassins creed wasnt ruined. They were already upfront about a yearly affair so we kinda got whats coming.
EA... so many studio down.. so many T_T
As a PC Gamer I'd say Ubisoft's draconian DRM just ruined gaming in general.

I'm seriously debating dropping video gaming as a hobby soon. I just can't stand getting screwed over developer after developer, having publishers ruin game after game.
And if I was to, that would be a huge commitment. Dunno what I'd do with my free time. Something productive, I guessBut seriously, no use for a hobby that makes me feel irritated every time I hear news about it. Real shame.
My feelings exactly!
EA ruined C&C series.
EA ruined Mass Effect
EA ruined Dragon Age
EA ruined battlefield
Ubisoft ruined Assassins Creed
Microsoft killed Flight Simulator
Etc etc... every single game franchise I love and have loved is turning into complete sheite with stupid DRM and rushed products!
Now i'm pretty much waiting to see how they can also ruin Sim City in 2013. >.<
Don't forget the Ultima series and Command & Conquer. The rEApers have a long history of taking legendary developers that revolutionized the gaming industry and harvesting them to make way for the next cycle.

Calling EA rEApers needs to become official. It's so fitting for them given their history.Surgate wrote...

Judging by the Retake movement, gamers are just whiney brats that'll give games that cater to fans 0/10 and will do disgusting things like compare it to getting their mother raped, or asking for people in Bioware to be fired, or the company to collapse, or make threads on how to get refunds and praise support on the people that do.
The fans are no better than the companies in my eyes.
We question your judgment.

I also have a theory that a lot of these issues come from public companies, Goldman Sachs was a decent company when it was privately run.

This IS the future of gaming. Everything in the world is moving towards YOU ARE LEASING NOT OWNING what you buy. Games will be no different.
<postus-reductio>
You're right, but it's a grim old future indeed.
Already the case, for the most part.
Granted, we're not quite at the point of regular monthly payments to use a game.
Well, unless you use xbox live, onlive or one of it's mutant offspring / imitators.
I think the alarm bells rang for me when around two years (or so) ago when folk during interviews began to refer to games as 'a service' or 'more service like'.
Not a product anymore.
That, you pay for and own.
A service?
Well, you just pay to use that.
...and, if you keep getting stuff, well then you keep paying.
I'm sure most of you know it already, but you don't really own the game.
Take a close look at your EULA (the origin furor drilled that into me...)
You have a licence to use the software, but don't actually own it said software.
Your entitled to the use of a copy of that software, provided to you by some method.
Access is permitted and determined by agreement with the licence.
Ownership of a game has always been a... contested point.
As digital distribution becomes more wedded to gaming, so our ownership of a game erodes.
Control of game ownership is one of the main lures of onine distribution.
Makes it easy to regulate users
...and, of course, monetise their actions.
No annoying second hand games for pc users, easier to regionalise sales and control grey market purchases.
No wonder the next generation of consoles seem to be leaning towards having those controls built in on release...
Got on a bit of a ramble there.
Anyway.
I wonder if those chaps complaining will be lined up and branded with the entitlement badge of shame too?

I'm switching my loyalty to CDProjectRed. Now there's a developer that knows how to properly reward its fans. Bought Witcher & Witcher 2 when they each first came out - they've both received massive upgrades and soon both will be enhanced editions with loads of worthwhile extra content.
I wouldn't give a second thought to preordering CDProjectRed's games. Bioware, on the other hand, gives me a lot of pause.
Couldn't agree more. I will buy anything they put out, based on the track record thus far.
Companies like this not only deserve thier fans support, but earned it as well.

New consoles reach near $500 or more and probably will get more expensive. Then you have to deal with the price of the games themselves.

Screw this, I'm going back to board games. Unless they start excluding game pieces from the packages and charging me extra for dices, cards, and player pegs.
I've always wanted to give tabletop RPG's a try.
