I'm not sure if some one posted here, but i believe atm there is a thing on youtube where a head guy from EA talks about "microtransactions" and how they are the future of a main chunk of money in the gaming world

Weather or not this is real, its pretty freaking sick and makes me not want to buy another game from EA ever again

Edit:

Thats the link.......kinda gives light to the whole "mass effect 3 wasnt a finished product"

That first link is disturbing indeed.... But I'd do it for ME. Heck even if it cost $20

And that's why companies think it's okay to do this.

the only way I would pay is if it came with a crap load of stuff like 8 hours of content, new weapons, appearances for squad mates, skins for multiplayer, weapons, and the dog oh and of course the new ending

The first link is just disturbing, and given how detached and lazy the ending felt, without meaning to sound like a conspiracy theorist, something similar had crossed my mind as to whether the ending was a ploy to go and sell us a $10 DLC to get the 'real' ending...

Well unfortunately, what do you think all this noise about DLC was conditioning people to do? I mean at some point, you were going to get this kind of thing --- No Used Games actions. I already felt it with downloadable books and other things on my Kindle. If everything becomes downloaded, you'll be pretty much screwed. What ever the price is, will be. If its an old game -- its DLC never changes in price.

Crazy stuff in the end, I think in the near future, it will be time to hang up my controllers as they say --- this new futuristic gaming world is looking like it completely sucks.

I agree, im tired of gamign companies releasing the same exact game, case and point all fps games, they all are about an elite group that must work together to win give me a fps where my actions affect my squad like I kill a guy and then it turns out a certain squad member had a past with them and they turn on me, could be interesting to see

Not trying to be a grammar freak here, and I'm telling you this with the best of intentions.  It is case in point, not case and point.  Feel free to ignore this but I'm just trying to be nice and tell you something you might not have known so you can better present your opinions to others in the future.  We can all learn from eachother and still be nice, see? lol B)

This is insane, I mean they could get away with milking us of proper DLC wich we might actually be willing to pay for. But this, this will rase the ****storm of the ages. Goes to show how utterly retarded publishers are. Why not think long-term? Make a stellar game with everything in it and people will buy it, it's that ****ing simple.

it's not just game publishers, it's a problem of a ton of publically traded companies. CEO's get short leashes and are expected to turn quick profits.

The current trends in gaming:
-Day 1 DLC
-Rushed packages
-Used games need to buy codes to get the full package
-anti-used game sentiment entirely
-anti sharing
-the notion of renting rather than owning

The gaming industry is NOT suffering. I don't buy any of the crap they say about used games destroying the market, mainly because used games have been around for years and we are still getting top-quality products from developers. All I see are people trying their damnedest to control a market and their consumers.

When an industry begins to employ draconian policies meant to enforce strict control, it is usually a sign that their business model has become flawed in the wake of new technologies.  The music industry is a prime example of this.  Most of the big publishers who failed to realize the potential of digital distribution in the late 90's/early 2000's and adapt their business models to it are now suffering immensely.

You don't win clients by punishing them for trying to save money.  It doesn't work and will never work.  You win clients by offering incentives for buying the full package.  In this case, videogame publishers have removed features which should already be included (multiplayer, endings) and offer them back to customers as incentive.  That is not incentive.

An example:

I walk into a restaurant I've frequented many times and prepare for my meal.  Much to my dismay I find that there are no chairs at my table.  I ask the waiter why there are no chairs.

Waiter: "Well sir, we find that clients tend to linger around much too long when they are sitting down and this lowers our hourly revenue.  We find that having no seats causes patrons to eat much quicker and clear room for new clients."

Me: "...but, I've always had a chair when eating here before."

Waiter: "Yes sir.  We value your patronage, and because of this we are excited to inform you that for a mere ten dollars, we will provide you the added value of a chair with your meal!"

Me: "....but the chair used to be free!  I don't think I like this."

Waiter: "Well I guess you just don't understand how the restaurant business works then sir."

This just goes to show us that we are at a potential turning point in gaming business practices. We are being manipulated and abused by the developers at this point, and we have the option of laying down and taking it, or making our voices heard.

If you're a member of other game communities that are suffering this kind of abuse, let them know about Hold the Line, and get them to find their own rallying cry. For too long we have simply accepted sub-par products without holding the developers accountable because we continued to pre-order their products. This must end, and we must demonstrate that we are not the guaranteed asset that they apparently think that we are.

Remember that we, as consumers, hold the power in this relationship, and never think otherwise. The only power that the developers have over us is the power that we give them. They cannot take the Line unless we give it to them, and do not give them a damned inch.

IKR

I still have both my nes and sega, and a nice collection of fun games.

Tech is so crap these days and I cant even count how many ps3 games got turned into tea coasters after a week. They dont make these things like they used to. Still love my original Zelda, SuperMario and Sonic1+2.

The concept of new systems prohibiting new games or even limiting them is pretty absurd.

Sure it would put places like GameStop out of business, but what then? They sell through Amazon? Wal-Mart? Best Buy? None of those stores actively advertise the way GameStop does every single day, and when people begin to realize their new games have no use to them after purchase, they'll no longer purchase day one but actually wait months and months until it's at such a measley price it won't matter if it's not up to par. And then PS4, Xbox 720, whatever ridiculous names they're given, they'll really feel it.
