It's simple. If you must play multiplayer to get the "best" ending, that means people who buy used games "must" buy the online pass. Also, EA probably figures that at least some people will buy some Spetre packs once their forced into multiplater.

You must raise your galaxy readiness for the 'best' ending. You do not need to do so by playing multiplayer. If you own a iPad/Pod/Phone you can download the Mass Effect Datapad app for free and raise your galaxy readiness by deploying fleets there. I got my galaxy readiness to 87% without a single minute MP.

It doesn't help matters that EMS and TMS are barely explained. This game has tutuorials about everything (including how to walk) but for some reason they implement a major feature and do not explain it in any meaningful way. Seems like a crappy idea all around to me. Also to clarify it is entirely possible that I am misinformed about the 4k without MP (I just read it and it was awhile ago so it seems to have been proven wrong). Given that though I believe it is all the more important they get rid of the MP requirement. Even if you can tolerate the multiplayer; years down the line there won't be that many playing it (or when EA shuts down the servers completely screwing us).

It's not possible to reach 4000 EMS without multiplayer, period. No best ending for single players.

Substituting MP with a crappy app?  First that assumes I have a smart phone and number 2 it assumes I'm willing to buy the game and then buy the app on top of it (as opposed to playing MP where if I buy the game new I don't have to pay further (discounting Xbox sub).

I agree, get rid of that ****.

It's pointless in an RPG.

Havent you noticed? Cut down real dialgue in favor for "Kasumi" style conversations. A journal that doesnt even update your quest. No values assigned to weapon damage and armor rating. The current weapon rating system doesnt increase as you upgrade your weapon. The addition of a multiplayer mode. Day 1 DLC....

Should I go on?

This isnt an RPG, period.

Seriously.

Even if the mode remains relatively popular for a while, it's got a lot of competition as time goes on. In nine months, there will be even less of a chance that people will be active on it.

It's actually why I'm playing more of it now-

I'm trying to get all the classes to 20, so if I need to later, I can just promote all of them to gain at least some War Assets to make up for the lowered Efficiency (I already did it once, at 75 Assets a pop, the promoted units aren't bad at all).

So i have to sit and waste time on an Apple device to play my XBOX game? Really? What if I dont own an Apple device? Argument doesnt hold water.

I don't say it's a good idea and I would much like an ingame method of raising the galaxy readiness value. Maybe as a result of your choices in ME1/2 (Save Feros colonists > +5% galaxy readiness, etc.). Would be much better.

What I'm saying however is: You do NOT need to play MP if you have a chance to download the FREE app to your IOS device. As some people can't play MP due to bandwith issues, etc. this might at least be an alternative for them.

Not that it really matters given the state of the current endings...

Yeah, I didnt really stare at that map very much, and it wasnt until I was nearing the end that I realized I had to drop single player and go play multi

Take a weapon that you havent upgraded much, and take a picture of those bars that describe its accuracy, damage, etc. Upgrade it as high as you can. Take another picture. Compare pictures. Pictures are identical. The bars never move. What that means is there is no way to tell if your level 7 Avenger is better than your level 5 Revenant. Epic fail if this was an RPG

EDIT: I play on XBOX, cant comment if its the same on PS3 or PC, but it doesnt work on XBOX.

Haha, agreed about the endings. But, although the apps are free, many people do not have access to them. Even if you could do it from a PC it would still be awful. People shouldnt have to do "busy work" to play a video game

I play on pc and I could probably use the save editor to increase my assets.  I think that I remember finding them in the save file.  Or I could probably mod it in the Coalesced file, but I shouldn't have to do any of that, though.

The important point is that you CANNOT get the EMS past 4000 using JUST SINGLE PLAYER unless you follow a very specific and railroaded path. To get 4000 with your own playthrough, you have to play multiplayer or download the app. For those of us without apple devices, it's just multiplayer.

Thanks, EA/Bioware!!!

You can just modify the coalesced.bin file to give 100% boost for every mp game.

Not everyone in the world uses a smart phone (some of us actual don't need to be plugged into our email or facebook 24/7). Regardless I shouldn't have to put time into 3 Mass Effect games AND an outside app just to alter the outcome. Now I won't go so far to say this isn't an RPG. Auto dialogue would be ok if it was limited to non squad side characters. The quest thing is pretty lame. Those things won't break the game in a year's time though whereas the MP (or lack thereof) will.

Some of us bought ME when it was released in 2007 (for the 360).  Now I'm an avid PC gamer but I wasn't willing to throw away 100s of hours of work to switch platforms.

I agree about the auto dialogue being ok for NPCs and that none of the things I mentioned will break the game when servers go down. Perhaps their logic is that by then enough DLC will be released to raise the available war assets to a point where multi is not needed. Also means you're forced to buy DLC to play the game....which is simply wrong to do to people.

As far as being an RPG or not, to me its irrelavent. I still enjoy the bulk of the game, but I am disappointed to see some of the key RPG elements watered down to attract a wider audience.
