I agree, lower the EMS rating to get the variant ending so that someone does not need to touch MP or download an app. Not everyone has a smartphone and also, really? I bought ME3 to play ME3, not play some smartphone app so that I can get a difference in my ending.

Also there is going to be a time the MP will be dead, this is not a comment about its quality, but unless you are like Blizzard with StarCraft, you MP will die out at one point. Which theoretically will be before people stop playing the SP game completely. Does that mean when someone 3 years from now wants to finish the game and do an old nostalgia run... he can't get one of the variants in the ending anymore?

But most importantly, even FPS don't do this sort of nonesense. I did not need to go through 20 team death matches to get the full ending of Halo 3. Heck even the easter egg ending that is assumed to happen even if you don't see it, is a reward for finishing on Legendary (and I think getting all the data fragements). As I said, that easter egg is not a different ending, just a teaser of something that happens anyways (even if not seen).

But again, be it Halo, GoW, CoD, your MP experiecne has no baring what-so-ever on your SP experience. No idea why it does in ME3 (even if it is a minor thing, it does have an impact). The only incentive to play MP should be that you like to play MP and the only reward for MP should be MP rewards.

It's even more questionable that it is only one way. Not like SP give any bonus to MP, and I am pretty sure if it did MP fans would be pissed. So it is obvious what the intent was... and honestly... it is no. Just No.

I got all three choices with my readiness rating at 50%. I do play multiplayer though, and it's pretty fun.

i am fine with MP giving you a boost like it does, but i think it should be nerfed down a bit. maybe have it bottom out at 75%, but you only get 1%-2% readiness per win instead of 3 or more.

And isnt nice that they make your readiness go down every day, as to keep beating you over the head with multiplayer. Bad enough to do it once, but maybe one day they'll be a reason to play this game again, and I'll have to start all over? WTF?!

I agree, get rid of that ****.

It's pointless in an RPG.

Havent you noticed? Cut down real dialgue in favor for "Kasumi" style conversations. A journal that doesnt even update your quest. No values assigned to weapon damage and armor rating. The current weapon rating system doesnt increase as you upgrade your weapon. The addition of a multiplayer mode. Day 1 DLC....

Should I go on?

This isnt an RPG, period.

Stop making me cry, please.

That would be more than adequate. I was able to achieve over 4000 EMS on my first playthrough at ~60%

Can we patch out the Star Child while we're at it?

If Bioware won't fix the ending, at least give us the option of patching out the ending entirely...I'd rather have a cliffhanger at the Marauder Shields...

THIS! I'd rather get that cliffhanger too rather than the current ending. Everything you've done... thrown out in the last minute.

The funny thing is, when they do, it is BW admitting their MP is dead or sucks.

Either way, don't expect it any time soon.

Some of us bought ME when it was released in 2007 (for the 360).  Now I'm an avid PC gamer but I wasn't willing to throw away 100s of hours of work to switch platforms.

Oh right... Sorry forgot that most people aren't playing on the PC.

Err well, I guess you can just play a lot of offline multiplayer games? Is that available to the consoles?

I think there was one dev who opened a locked thread and said that multiplayer WAS NOT NEEDED. Lies....

I don't know if anyone has said this, or this has already come up...but as much as I love the MP, I have to agree...EA is NOT going to keep the Mass Effect 3 MP serves up forever. (Or is Bioware in control of them? If it's EA, they'll most likely be shut down after several years.) They will come down at some point and no one will be able to play, therefore, they won't be able to boost their Galactic Readiness, and they won't be able to promote characters into the SP. Well, unless Bioware comes up with alternatives...

I enjoy the few MP sessions I've played but I do agree that limiting it to be the only way to get the "best" ending without compromising your decisions in the game is kinda lame.

Heck, if they just double the war asset values on a New Game+ I'd be happy with that.

Making online multi-player have an possible effect on the ending of a TRILOGY, one that has spanned over five years in development and an ending of a RPG no less was completely and utterly asinine.

I had a pretty much perfect playthrough throught ME1-ME3, the only thing I did wrong was keep rana thanoptis alive, everything else I did was correct. I even destroyed the reapers first time, but I didn't get the shepard lives ending because I didn't have enough effective military strength, despite having a total military strength of 7000.

I had no idea galactic readiness could only be gained through multi-player, not only was it not explained in-game nor was it explained in the flimsy instruction manual. Sure, I could've looked it up on the internet but spoilers are so rife now, I didn't want to run the risk of spoiling anything about the game.

Bioware made a terrible mistake and I hope they don't repeat it in future titles. Sure, have multi-player by all means but NEVER allow it to have any impact on the single player portion of the game other than extra weapons or cosmetics.

If bioware planned this all along they are evil geniuses. Releasing an ending DLC that will get bought up, then releasing other DLCs that will slowly remove the requirment for playing multiplayer from the game. Meaning we get more content, single player only, and no need for multiplayer and they get money.

However if they don't fix you know what then this plan is going to backfire hard.

The only thing the MP actually unlocks in the Single player is the Shepard breathing ending in destroy. It sucks if you want that ending everytime. But otherwise it doesn't effect anything.

I agree that you shouldn't need it, but if it helps you can just start a private game by yourself.

MP is not a requirement. You just have to play the first two games in a specific way to make up that missing 50%.

You can still get the "best" ending without multiplayer, you just have to work harder. if you love SP so much why is that a problem?

Isn't it already confirmed you can't get to 8000 TMS in SP or did I miss something?
BTW: Best ending for me is Shepard alive == 4000 EMS.

I enjoyed the MP (though for some reason i am HORRIBLE at vanguard) but i agree I don't like how it effected the ending. It would have been far cooler if you could have raised GA for a specific system and then in SP reapers would be driven back in that system. While they were driven back new quests (where you land and do stuff) would be available for a short time. Having it have any effect on the ending was a bad idea imo.

I agree with the OP. It completely devalues what little value there was in having our choices reduced to a EMS rating. Now our choices in the game were reduced to "how many hours of MP do I have to do?"

Not being able to see shep live because you can't get enough point in SP alone is freaking ludicrous

Exactly this.  I HATE that I am denied content (however minimal and insignificant) because I loathe playing multiplayer.  Forcing game-altering (again, however minimal) MP iinto a SP franchise is simply insulting.  I might have expected something like this from another developer but Bioware?

Yes Please! Nothing wrong in the multiplayer department but you should not need to play multiplayer in order to get the ending you want.
