my play style doesn't appear to be on that list.
I am the soldier, i kill the enemy, assist the team and help with the objectives, either doing them myself or protecting others while they do it. I save my rockets for when they're really needed.

The Vangod: The Vanguard who can effortlessly charge-dance with a banshee, who is always first to defend an objective point or first to take down a marked target. And he does it all without hosting. You wondered why you didn't kick him from the lobby before you started on firebase condo reaper gold, but he's flashing the best that vanguards have to offer.

The Mic-Echo Guy: Didn't I just say that? Hey man, I think your game sound is coming through your mic. - game sound is coming through your mic.

The Incredibly Loud One: Places the microphone inside his mouth for clarity.

The PS3 player on 360 for the Weekend Event: Distinguishable by having a very low N7 rating but still consistantly high on the scoreboard. Always completes objectives with teamwork. Clearly, he's done this before.

The Easily Distracted Guy: Steps out of the extraction circle in the last 5 seconds to get a better shot at someone across the map. Partial extraction, but that last kill did launch him to third place.

The Bong Ripper: Takes such a huge bong hit over the mic that you actually get high just from hearing it.

The wife-in-the-background: Can be heard shouting at the kids and generally blathering on about the family's personal infomation. We don't want to know that your wife just started her period. Really, really don't want to know.

Really enjoyed this thread OP. Great fun.

Heh, love it.

Got thrown into a ramdom (Bronze) match this morning with three people playing vanguards, stayed in it for giggles, and was very pleasantly surprised. Obviously The Vangod as a class of player is spreading.

I had to channel my inner vangod one time on silver on wave ten against cerberus. Every member of my team went down and it was a data acquisition (4 points) mission without getting a single point.

I went rambo through a dozen phantoms and like 4 atlases and barely managed to get the last objective. Got plenty of praise.

<--  The Infiltrator Queen: She goes in cloaked with her M-13 Raptor, shoots all the bad guys in the room and tops the scoreboard with so much points it leaves the other players biting in the dust while she screams into the microphone "Beaten by a girl! ^.^".

She is also known to commonly solo the 4-point objective missions with her cloak and generally revives downed players. She's excessively polite, kind and nice towards others and a blast to have on the team.

Slumgod Backup-> Found in bronze with a level 20 charachter.  Sometimes with some sort of funky build, like a Flalcon infiltrator.  May also act atypicly, like an infilstrator not bothering to cloak or a vanguard not flying around like they are on meth.    Acts like a pretty good teammate,  helps with nodes, gets in circles, ect. may even call out stuff if need. Genrally seems to be carried by everyone else..Then when the group gets in trouble, they suddenly start flying all over the map destroying everything in sight basicly carrying the group. May end up more or less soloing wave 9/10. Could probably have cut the game time in half it they tried.

Krogan -> a player who's class is Krogan. Your not sure what type of krogan. Your not sure it matters given how they are playing.

Batarain -> same as above, but with 4 eyes.

class Newbie -> Has clearly played the game for a while. Just...not with the class they are playing. They will usually be semi-effective because of this. A common example is a Salarian engineer who will snap off head shots with widow, but never bother to use energy drain or the decoy.   Or an engineer who will run around shooting things with  a shotgun, but can figure out how to distract a guardian with a drone. Ms adept, your actually doing  a decent job. But if you could statsis these phantoms it would help...

Gun Nut -> Has 2 (usually good/high level) guns. Will blaze away with them. Usually has elite gun skills. Never uses powers. Smarter ones play sentinels and remember to turn the armor on.

Low-score but loved - This is like the unsung hero, except everyone knows he was doing his job.  This is often a Salarian engineer, but can sometimes be the guy who was detonating rather than priming biotic combos.  Or maybe he was crowd control, or the infiltrator spending all his time on objectives.  Regardless, he's in 4th place, by a significant margin, but no one votes to kick him in lobby.

Good guy vanguard - You expect him to be another crappy vanguard, but he's not.  He doesn't charge into spawn.  He doesn't run off to kill things while you're hacking.  He doesn't need you to constantly revive him.  Every warp/reave gets detonated, and every energy drain/overload gets bursted.  And, for some reason, you just aren't getting killed by phantoms/hunters/pyros/ravagers this game.  When the game is over, he's always #2 or #3, with 75 assists.

These are both quite often me.

Athlete, Support Gunner, Supporter, and occasionally Symbiotic Sibling as well. Final Victor and No Man Left Behind are also roles I've filled before. Really, almost all of these have probably applied to me at some point.

The Strategic Rock
This person knows the maps, has learned them very quickly, understands how the enemy spawns work and how being in the right place at wave start, stops certain spawn points from being used. This one also knows the best points to hold up in, which doorways to stack up on, and the best vantage points to surpress and control an area. Race and class don't matter, this guy is packing precision firepower and uses it very effectively - though the scoreboard won't always attest to that.

Most players might think this one unskilled, unwilling to get into the fight, or maybe even a form of leech, but this is the person that just saved you from being executed by a Trooper, from the other side of the map with a single shot, or took down that damned turret that killed you, and then killed you again after you revived.

You got to sympathise with this one often, watching their team-mates run into the middle of open spaces in maps, or running straight through the reactor at the start of the match, as they realise that not only do they have to cover these guys, more than likely, they also just got promoted to the teams combat medic-crossed-with-100m sprint athlete, while dodging more flak than was seen during the Battle of Britain!

...guilty. I take great pleasure in finding ways to use the terrain of a map, and I love being the person who saves her teammates from imminent death, even when they don't notice it.

The Last-Second Savior -- When you're bleeding out and a Geth is lifting his metal foot to stomp you out, he blasts the jerk from just out of view, then runs in to revive you with three pixels of countdown left.

I enjoy being this person whenever possible.

I'm female, but I've never had that experience. Maybe it's just luck, but I do occasionally use my mic depending on the difficulty, and I think Wynne is a pretty girly-sounding name. So I don't think it's that no one picks up on the fact that I'm female. Maybe it's just that the PC draws more young adults than teenagers or something?

Chivalry in a game would be lame... teamwork is great, but I don't need a bodyguard. Besides, efficient snipers are much sexier than clingy tanks anyway.

So, so, so true. Well said. I would add, though, that there's another side to the rival:
The Twin: Every now and then, you see someone of the same class as you, but your competitive streak doesn't get the better of you. Getting kicked out of three lobbies in a row for daring to play a krogan has built a bond that no scoreboard can break. Even if you leave your headset off, you will find a way to bond with this long-lost sibling. Probably through headbutting between waves.

I have been this krogan as well. :)

Hrm...

Trying not to suck too bad guy: Doesn't matter what class they are playing, they are just trying to be a decent member to the team. Reviving whenever they can, taking out enemies with some efficiency, running in to save those who need it. He's not doing the best, he's not doing the worst, just trying to make it by with what help they can deliver.

On that, I tend to be the unsung hero every so often. Most of the time I'm what is above. Just a game people. Just a game.

well...My style ain't on the list:

SMART Aggro Bait: either as a AA or GE that keep up fire on one side of the map with good cover, drawing the enemy over to me, while the other teammates are in a position to create cross-fire through the entire killzone. But will bail to teammates either when they need revive or get away from the Heavies (Atlas, Banshee, etc.)

Friends with Benefit: as GE or QE with bots and overload, and keep spamming those all game to give teammates chances to shoot.

From zero to hero guy:  Low level character(1-3) playing on silver or gold, usually infiltrator. In lobby other player want kick him out,but he somehow convinces them to let him play with big guys.
He doesn't kill much, but revives teammates, brings coffee and donuts and when in later waves his teammates get killed,by some miracle he is still alive and destroys Banshees/Phantoms/Primes with last rockets.

The Highlander-Vanguard: This guy suddenly shows up in your lobby before a silver game. You decide to give him a chance, because he has 200+ N7 and seems reasonably well equipped. At the first wave he glances sight of the first enemy... and charges. He charges everything, the only thing you see of him is a purple streak shooting over the map. You don't know if he actually uses his weapon, because Charge and Nova seem to be the only thing he kills with. Yet, at the end of the first wave, he still stands. Later, you see how he goes toe to toe with two Primes and a group of Pyros simultaneously, occupying them all by himself and turning the fight into a shooting gallery for your Infiltrator and... he survives. You have no clue how he does it. You ask him, and he also doesn't know why he survived that. Despite charging at everything he sees, this guy just doesn't die...

The Enigma

That one guy that joins a lobby full of three real life friends. Nobody knows him, but he carries the team. He revives when he can, gives good cover, sticks with the team, does the objectives, and doesn't die often. You're all envious of his skill, but before you can close the post-game stats to message him or friend him he's already gone, to repeat the cycle in another lobby.

had this happen to me on one of the first days of the demo. the three guys I played with were cool. I did not carry them but did help a lot, I regret not adding them to friends list (think I was late for something that day and had to go right after the match).

My Quarian Engineer is totally an unsung hero. That turret does wonders for traffic direction, and she eats through armor on bosses like no other. But I still get **** for using her. "Why use her? Use your Salarian or Human; they're better." Yeah. Bull****.

Otherwise, I'm totally the altruistic guy, and the rival when I use my human sentinel and there's an asari adept in the party. I suddenly feel the urge to out-adept the adept.
