I'm not sure if anyone has ever posted on this forum asking how to make it so squadmates use only one weapon, but it's a question that I'd been looking for an answer to here on BSN for a long time and, now that I've finally figured it out, I might as well share:
1) In the Coalesced editor, go to: biogame.ini > sfxgame > sfxplayersquadloadoutdata > henchloadoutinfo
2) Go to each squadmate and edit their "Weaponclasses=(...)" so that it only reads one type of weapon. For example, for Garrus to only use sniper rifles, you would do this: "(className=SFXPawn_Garrus,Weaponclasses=(LoadoutWeapons_SniperRifles
,LoadoutWeapons_AssaultRifles))"
3) Save and exit.
4) In Gibbed, load your save and go to: Raw > Squad > Henchmen > ...
5) Move down to the squadmate you want (you can tell who's who by reading the tag section).
6) Expand the Loadout Weapons section and make sure that two types of weapons have weapon tags (for example, the tag for the Predator is "SFXGameContent.SFXWeapon_Pistol_Predator") in them and every other section reads "None". For example, if you used the Coalesced editor to make it so that James only used shotguns, and you wanted him to only use, say, the Katana, you'd need to make sure that the Shotgun section had "SFXGameContent.SFXWeapon_Shotgun_Katana" in it and one other section (which I usually just designate to be the Pistol section) has another tag in it (I usually just use the tag for the Predator, since squadmates always seem to be whipping those things out of nowhere during cutscenes...).
7) Go to: Weapons > ...
8) Make sure that the only weapon there is the one you want equipped. Continuing with the example of James only using the Katana, make sure that the only item is "SFXWeapon_Shotgun_Katana".
9) Save and exit.
Now, you could just skip steps 1 through 3, but, if you were to do that, your game would get stuck every time you go on a mission and want to change squadmate weapons at the weapon loadout screen, because a popup message will say that each squadmate must have two weapons equipped. All you can do at that point is forcibly close the game (since you can't pause or go back), reopen it, and edit the loadouts in Gibbed. All of the Coalesced editor stuff makes it so you can change loadouts in-game, which is smoother.
If you've bought Mass Effect 3: Omega, the process is a little different when dealing with Aria and Nyreen's loadouts:
1) Skip steps 1 through 3.
2) Repeat steps 4 through 6.
3) At step 5, where there'll be two weapon entries, just go to the type of weapon that you don't want Aria or Nyreen to use, delete the section fo the weapon tag that has the unique name of the weapon, and replace it with "None". For example, if you don't want Aria to use shotguns (let's say she's equipped with a Scimitar), you'd do this: "SFXWeapon_Shotgun_
Scimitar" > "SFXWeapon_Shotgun_None".
4) Repeat step 9.
Since I'm kinda picky about how my squad looks, I like each squadmate to use a weapon that fits their aesthetic and / or species: Anderson uses the Predator (like always), James uses the Katana, Ashley uses the Avenger, Kaidan uses the Scimitar (I fiddled with the Coalesced editor so that Kaidan can use shotguns), Liara uses the Acolyte, Garrus uses the Krysae, EDI uses the Locust, Javik uses the Particle Rifle, Tali uses the Reegar Carbine, Aria uses the Disciple, and Nyreen uses the Phaeston. Oh, and Shepard uses the Cerberus Harrier, since, well, I frakking love that gun...
Hope this helps!
