1.  It’s important to identify which product is experiencing the problem.

  a.   Is it the console version or the PC version?  (Edit: Most of this is strictly applicable to the PC version.)
It is the PC version.

  b. Media: physical disk or digital download (and which vendor)
Digital download from Steam.

2.  System Details

  a. Processor / Core count / Core Speed / Main RAM Amount
Intel® Core 2 Duo CPU
E6859 @ 3.00GHz
4.00 GB RAM

  b. Display Adapter / VRAM / Driver Version (just saying "latest drivers" doesn't help -- Edited: only ATI / nVIDIA cards are supported)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Driver version: 275.33
1024 MB VRAM

  c. Sound Adapter / Driver Version
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
Driver version: 1.1.13.1

  d. Operating System (& service pack if applicable)
Windows 7 32-bit Serivce Pack 1

  e. Direct X Version

3.  Problem Details

a.  When it comes to problem details, think about the five basic
questions: Who? What? When? Where?  Why? Okay, so “Who?” doesn’t really
apply here, but the others do.
General protection faults during face to face conversations.  Errors occur in conversations throughout the game, regardless of skipping ahead in the conversation or not.

  b.  What?  What is the nature of the problem that you’re seeing?
During a face to face conversation, the game image will freeze, my cursor will turn into the spinning blue circle, the game audio will continue to run, and the screen will continue to display the frozen game image until I alt-tab out.  When I alt tab out, I am given the GPF pop-up window.  When I click OK, the game closes.

  c.  When?  When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only after so many hours of play?
This happens during conversations, and at no other time during gameplay.

  d.  Where? Where does the problem occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does it occur everywhere?
The problem can occur during any conversation, regardless of game location.

  e.  Why? As much as possible, can you isolate the problem to a specific set of steps?
As best as I can tell, the problem is isolated to face to face character conversations.  Sometimes, after I start the game again, it will happen at approximately the same point in the same conversation.  Other times, after I start the game again, I will proceed through the same conversation without a problem, only to have a GPF error come up again in a later conversation.

The errors seem to be limited to conversations, but can happen randomly during any conversation, and with enough consistency to render a typical play session frustrating and unplayable.
