Is it me or Bioware art seems to have no flair?

Clothing for the most part is pathetic. Weapons are hit or miss, but maces and mauls are absolutely HIDEOUS. Some of the armors are quite cool though :)

The topic of the post is worded about as badly as possible when considering the actual message you're trying to convey. What you're complaining about isn't flair, what you're complaining about is execution. And yes I agree, the concept art, CG promo, and in game characters could all be completely different groups of people. They look nothing alike.

Well I was comparing it to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I don't know about everyone else.

Goober.

Ugh,when will we understand that we do not need to push highly realistic or HD graphics?

I hope you enjoy Platinum games(formally clover studio). They are definitively the most distinctive in terms of artistic flair(Madworld,Viewtiful Joe,Okami,Bayonetta,God hand, etc).

I loved Okami and Shadow of the Colossus, haven't got around to Bayonetta yet, the near nudity makes it a bit embarassing to be caught playing, :D

The graphics are very hit and miss, and whats with all the orange? I swear every other npc is decked out in orange noble clothing.

Also if by flair you mean: bowstrings, scabbards, rogue hoods, cloaks, bracers, more than 3 2H sword models, more than 3 light armor models, and selling us reskinnned models for DLC, yes this game has no flair.

The game is good, but you can as always improve upon things..

There are always some other games that do certain things with more flair or hair

By flair I mean the game has no style, its just so blah looking.

HD does not good art direction make.

Well hey look at the bright side, we have like 5 different lengths and styles of medium hair.

Compared to many of the games I've played over the last year or so this one looked kind of plain. It's hard to explain exactly how but most of the areas have an emptiness to them that left me wanting more. There's definitely a simplicity to the art in the game that is holding it back to a certain degree. Considering the zones in the game are so small I don't really understand the lack of detail in the environments. Fortunately the game play value more than makes up for any graphical inadequacies.

The metal armor (in each case) looks cheesy to me, as if they are cut out of styrofoam or hard leather.

Otherwise, the graphics are highly detailed. The quality of the graphics depends on your CPU/GPU combination. I built a new rig and pasted my saved char file into the Character file, and then redownloaded my DLC.

Holy mackeral, what a difference! I can make out the artwork hanging on the walls without straining my eyes and the carvings, rooftops, buildings in the distance, etc., stand out in high relief. Even the hair, feathers, trees, etc., in the game look amazingly detailed.

I even told Sten he had something stuck between his teeth (it looked like raw human meat). If the Quanari passed that on to a human through kissing, he/she could become deathly ill by ingesting rotten flesh. It would be involuntary cannibalism. Could this be a new death tactic? Fortunately, I'm an Elf, so although disgusting, it wouldn't effect me in the slightest. But really...can you imagine?

I wish there were more awesome maps, like those in NWN2 and Mask of Betrayer. The design and look of some of those was just breathtaking.
Not many of those in Ferelden, but I guess Rashemen is more beautiful.

Concept art always looks better. I've rarely seen things that live up to it

+1

Bioshock is one of the very few 3D games that do catch up to the artwork.

It's one of the basic issues of this game. Remarks about lack of atmosphere, ugly textures, etc. all have to do with this. The art is very good, but it doesn't always work so well. The clearest example is the generic area of ambushes. Just look at the mountain range in the background. NWN-quality.

Do you have your 37 pieces of flair?

Ldyshayna edit:  Fairly tactless, I'm afraid.  Let's try to keep it civil, please.

I'm afraid you failed your "Office Space quotes" roll. It was a direct quote. <_<

Just you, final work is 9 times out of 10 better... and Zevran is my case and point, his concept art is ridiculous, and I realize there are folks who dig that kind of thing, but he looked 'silly' for lack of a better word

Well there is enough examples... the overall stuff is just like... WoW... Starwars Galaxies.... and Guildwars look... the GFX and actually putting visuals on the concept in my opinion is a BIG F or what somewould say 1 out of 10... I play for the gameplay though... but I really miss the magic these concept games gave me,,, it is like there is a big loophole... that is more like... oh no we don't want to do this... lets go all mainstream and follow the leader kind of way...

No daring moves from the companies out there.. which is sad :/

They have great concept art mind you, its just the execution of the art can be very BLAH

Very much so. I'd argue that given what they demand of their RPGs and the systems currently available, BioWare is bound to lag behind artistically.
