If you could only use the weapons you have equipped, could be very funny.
"Ah...Kai Leng is standing on my shuttle...but my Mattock is hanging on the steering wheel...argh!"
Otherwise you are right.

It baffles me that Bioware could not or would not bother to resolve this issue for three games. It shouldn't be that complicated. The cutscenes always seem to know what armor pieces you're wearing.

THIS in bold. In ME-2, I didn't magically jump out of my Kestral in to the default N7 armor. And in ME-3, it remembers my light color, my Tint 1, 2 and pattern color. So why the inconsistent weapon display?

I understand the programming and resource time but it's a legacy issue. That means it's been seen thousands of times. What were they doing all this time that someone couldn't fix it? Is it a 5 people job to properly display weapons (especially when it seems to happen correctly during SOME scenes).

ok, first off, you don't realize that bioware was busy perfecting the ending so they didn't have time for trivial things like this. don't be a noob. bioware logic es #1

Ah yes, "perfect endings", the idea that narrative cohesion can be lost during a story's conclusion but still be considered art. We have dismissed that claim.

Real talk tho....it seems like in only handful of scenes do the weapons show up properly....it is trivial but details are the ingredients to immersion, you kno?

Take this scene from this cartoon, Archer: 27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lo0go4n6s61qe3x69o1_500.jpg

That scene is from middle of season 2 of Archer. Later on, season 3, there's a shot of Archer with a tank top on and underneath, you could see they drew in his tattoo. Character continuity. And believe me, the types of people who watch Archer are the types of people who would "lose" immersion and go "where's Archer's 'Seamus' tattoo"?

I just hope in Bioware's later projects, they start getting back to details.....

This is the thing that annoys me most in cutscenes.

I can't believe they didn't fix it for the last game in the series!

Shepherd and the Squadmates are consistently using the wrong guns.

I Fully agree with you.

The way I see it, and most of all the other problems in ME3. The developers ran out of time to address these issues.

After seeing ME2 and looking at their previous entries, I find it hard to believe that BW would allow this sort of rookie errors, (face import, gun holster, wrong weapons, disappearing weapons, character models spasm's etc), past quality control unless they had to cut corners to meet a deadline.

I played as a soldier for all the game in the series and it was only in ME3 that I noted the cutscenes not registering the weapons I actually used.

The other two games were able to recognize what weapons I was using and render them properly within the cut scenes,

I suppose they just ran out of time and left it in as it was.

I'm aware this existed before but it's really bad now. ME3 suffers generally from a lack of polish so I mostly blame that.

What's off to me is that in some cut scenes it goes to default weapons (and gives squadmates weapons they can't even use) but in others it does it correctly and reflects the loadout. Wonder why it is so inconsistent

Yeah.

I do remember one scene where Shepard actually uses the weapon you equipped. Often, Shepard can actually be seen carrying the weapon you equipped but never for scenes where you actually use it. Except for this one.

In the Leviathan DLC, at the end of the mission where you rescue Dr Ann Bryson, your squadmates use the weapons you actually equipped (oddly, I had Javik with his Particle Rifle and he fired small green bullets that used the PR sound) and right before the shuttle takes off, Shepard fires off a few rounds into the crowd using the weapon you actually equipped. It was funny because I was carrying a Saber at the time so Shepard was shooting it at the speed of a Mattock. So it's definitely possible to implement them at certain points (not sure why only this scene too because it wasn't a particularly special scene).

But yeah, this is overall a bummer for me sine part of what gets me so immersed into Mass Effect is seeing my Shepard in amazing action cutscenes looking the way I personally designed him. Using weapons I didn't equip hurts that. I hated it most in ME1 when my Soldier Shepard, a master of firearms decided it was always best to use his pistol. Even though my squadmates had no problem using their primary weapons.

The weirdest moment was just recently in the Omega DLC. The moment you crash land on Omega. Shepard will still use the M8 Avenger but Aria will actually use the shotgun you equipped her with.

I play as Soldier and I'm quite fond of pistols.
The reasoning I apply is that an Assault rifle or Shotgun is unwieldly at close range, so if you're going to shoot someone nearby, you'll reach for your pistol to get a precision shot.

What annoys me most is the pistol is never the one I choose (Phalanx).

And yes, there are times when the correct weapons are used.
But they're few and far between.

Which is what confuses me a lot, how can it get it right sometimes, but wrong so many times?
It should be consistent, either wrong all the time or right all the time, but not a mixture!

this "so-called" feature is one of the things that breaks the damn immersion in the game...if BW plans to make ME4, they better try to correct this...there's no point in making a great story if they pull some $#@& like this...

It's even worse in the cutscene before you enter geth consensus. Liara is holding a Predator pistol. Camera moves. Then it moves back in on Liara. And she has a ****ing Avenger.

BioWare, why did you NOT fix this.

Everyone says the Avenger is crap, so it comes back with a vengeance.

Badum-tish.

I think they actually fixed this in Leviathan, I remember Shepard holding my shotgun in a cut scene... And shooting stuff before getting onto the shuttle which I think would have been a bit too far away for a shotgun, which is probably why they default it. I think in Omega it went back to "generic weapon."

I would love it if they fixed it, but I don't think it's a big deal.

A little guide to help you guys out.

Bring Javik and Kaidan.

Equip all three squadmates (including Shepard) with with avenger and predator.
Don't put any mods on your guns.

So in cutscenes, the weapons shown are the weapons you brought to battle.
If the cutscene shows Shepard using the Avenger and having a spare avenger on Shepard's back, I can't help you there.

Considering how many hours BioWare worked during the final stages of production, I wouldn't blame laziness. More likely it was a combination of time constraint, budgetary reasons, and this issue being low on their priority list.

Yes, but the game is out now, they've had time for a vacation and to kiss their loved ones. It's time they fix the little things, before they go into overtime once more for ME 4 or some more DLC. They can put some Animator Intern on it or something, then take the credit as he fixes it.

Sadly this person can't post in the forums, so I'm posting on their behalf.

Hi Abraham,

I notice in the thread  you posted that if you just take the Avenger and Predator with no mods, they'll always show up correctly in the cutscenes.

I just wanted to let you know that the game DOES correctly show mods to the Predator and Avenger.

So if you go into a cutscene holding a Phalanx, you'll be shown with an unmodded Predator.

If you go into that same cutscene with a modded Predator, it will correctly display those mods. I frequently carry a Predator with the ULM and melee (taser) mods for just that reason, it actually is showing the right gun.

So this isn't a bug or glitch.

I was thinking of raising this issue in technical support section...
