I think the old IE games would like to have a word with you.

To each his own, as they say. However, unless you have done your homework, and given every game an equal chance, your claims such as "The best game ever made!" are plain stupid.

With other words, if you don't know any better (i.e. you have not played all major RPGs out there, or even worse - not played all of the BW games), then you might as well save yourself from embarrassment.

^ Yeah, well, I think it's understood that it's the best game in the person's collection. You can't expect someone to play every RPG in the world to choose what the person in question thinks is the best...

second best i would say. the best game they made is still baldur's gate II. DAO is tied with Baldur's Gate.

I'd say that BG2 with the Throne of Bhaal expansion is the best game Bioware has made - but DA:O isn't that far behind.

DA:O had me captivated from the start - I picked the dwarven commoner origin for my first playthrough, and I think it took a couple of minutes and I was already hooked on the story. It had that "feel" to it that I hadn't quite gotten from other games since BG2. And I don't think any RPG has drawn me in as quickly, including BG2 - in BG2, the story only really opened up once you got out of the initial dungeon where you start.

I played: NWN, Kotor, Jade Empire, ME entire saga... DAO and DA2.

DRAGON AGE ORIGINS:

THE LONGEST.

Baldur's Gate (1 or 2) had more than twice the content, in which case the word 'made' in the thread title should be 'played'.

Yeah, I LOVED DA too! I Still think the best was Baldur's Gate but DA:O is a really close second :)

Origins would have to go down as the greatest game of all time. No other game pulled me in and took me for an adventerous ride like Origins did. I've played the BG series, and while they were great for their stories and rpg play, they were an entirely different generation of game media compared with Origins. It's like comparing the original acarde game of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Go-Karts of SNES.

I don't think we'll ever see another game like Origins again because gaming companies like EA have to many fingers in the developement pie to allow the process of creating a work of art like Origins was.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say... outside of the cinematics and improved graphics (albeit WEAK graphics for 2009 when DA:O was released) in what ways has it gotten better over BG?  Because I can count several ways it has gotten worse.

I get a kick out of some people wanting to 'disprove' or take issue with someone else's opinion. To me DAO is the finest standalone game I have ever played (in 20 years of gaming) for a million personal reasons.

It's my favorite console game of ALL time. I still can't believe how much awesome this game has. I convinced a friend of mine who is a huge gamer to give it a chance and we were playing through together this weekend. I'm embarrassed to admit but we probably put in about 20 hours in three days. He was amazed with the story, character development, complexity of combat tactics, and amount of content. In that amount of time we have only done one army recruit! I can't tell enough people how much I've enjoyed this game and I have gotten all of my friends to play it. When people ask me about DA2, I say it's a pretty good game...but buy the original because it's vastly superior. I just wish Bioware could capture the magic of Origins instead of the generic-ness of DA2. I've played every origin story, and have done 4 or 5 complete playthroughs for close to 200 hours of gaming. I also loved Awakening.

I only did one playthrough of DA2 because it didn't feel like the same game to me and I didn't feel like my choices had any impact like they did in Origins. There were things that I enjoyed about it, but I get really scared for the future of the franchise when I read things like they already took everything they wanted to keep from Origins and any sequel is going to be closer to DA2 than origins...

^ I agree with you Case, though I've played through DA2 multiple times too. DA2 is half the game DA:O is, but DA:O is so great that half the game is pretty good too. I actually just recently bought the couple of story-DLCs for DA2, and loved Mark of the Assassin - it's actually an excellent DLC, and had it been included in the original game, I think it would have done much to aleviate the "claustrophobic" feel of the recycled elements and so few places to visit.

DA2 did lack that epic "feel" that DA:O captured so well though. You can probably see why just by looking at the time spent developing both games - DA2 was a rush job.

I like killing the rats better in Origins than in Baldur's Gate.

Vanilla DA:O ----> bugs and glitches, ugly weapon/armor and hairstyles design, imbalanced

DA:O + Mods ----> a great game!

So DA:O is the best game Bioware AND Bioware fans/modder ever made:lol:

Bioware always tries to claim that your choices matter in the games. While it's true that they can only put so many possibilities into every game because of finite data space, DA:O stands most true to this creed.

The sheer diversity of outcomes in this game is staggering, and while it all comes to the same point in the end it still manages to leave you with choices at the end. (The big one of whether your Warden lives or dies, and the little ones determining your epilogue afterward.)

The combat may not have aged too well, but it's still fun enough that I would happily go back and play it again and again.

More than anything I want to see Origins' kind of story diversity in Dragon Age III. The writing team has a lot of work to do.

While games like Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate II tend to fill most of my time, I do feel DA:O is up there as one of my favorite games. I haven't really touched the game much for almost a year I think, though it just so happens that I am reinstalling the game now for another playthrough :)

Baldur's Gate 2 is my favorite BioWare game. DA:O is certainly up there though.

I am partial to the ME series overall but as far as individual games go I do admit it is hard to top DAO. Just so much meat to the game.
