I've finished the game and I loved it as did many others

The ODDS my boy, the ODDS are in his favor.  With odds like these, I'd spend EVERY last penny I had on the lottery because it would be virtual certainty that I'd win.

One reaction to a playthrough on youtube was the guy saying "That ending wasn't so bad. What is everyone complaining about?" I suspect that will be similar to your reaction

Like anything with a huge hype, good or bad, it's never as extreme as the hype suggests.

Oh man...

This totally reminds me of me when I was still on my first playthrough of Mass Effect 3. I'd get on for a couple hours after work each day and slowly but surely work my way towards the end, loving every minute of the game. In between I'd log on here occasionally and see the doom & gloom threads from the people who beat the game in two days. It had me a bit worried, but I'd always tell myself that the endings couldn't possibly be that bad when the game so far had been amazing. I had no idea what was in store for me and I just chalked up the fan outrage to typical BSN overreaction.

And then I got to the end...

You know that moment in the Matrix when Neo is given the option of taking the red bill or the blue pill, and the red pill opens his eyes to a painful truth? Yeah, it was pretty much like that.
