After two weeks of frustration and zero help from Bioware (no answers to my tech support emails, and an unproductive online chat session with tech support), I found the magic port number that they left out of the manual and tech support didn't tell me about.

You must unblock ports 80 (TCP/UDP), 8000 (TCP), 8001 (UDP), 443 (TCP), and 18081 (TCP) to connect to the DLC stuff.

18081 isn't listed in the manual or the website, but the game tries to contact an EA server on that port. 443 isn't listed either, but that's a regular https port and is probably unblocked for most people anyway. I unblocked it and I no longer get the "you are not connected to the internet" garbage and I can log in fine now.

This did not fix it for me... I've been playin for 30 hours already, with no problems at all, and yesterday, all of a sudden, the game does not connect... It does not let me push the log in button, it tells me that Im not currently connected.

Check your router's logs and make sure there aren't any other ports trying to contact EA servers (you can resolve the IPs using something like http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools ). I was having that same problem and 18081 fixed it for me.

Worked for me too. I still get disconnected once and a while and have to relog sometimes, but while Im connected it updates my characters. Maybe something they should add to the next patch readme file.

I had never had any issues regarding this previous to the newest patch, and have attempted to use this since, and found it not working for me.

Will this also fix the problem with not being able to login in-game? I never get the 'You are not connected to internet' but I can still never connect.

I tried this, some ports couldn't be opened as they were already opened, or so my router told me. In the end I'm still stuck at 'Connecting to Dragon Age servers'

How you do this will unfortunately vary from router to router, as different manufacturers call things different names, and ask for different settings, OR ask for the same settings in different ways.

Try starting here: http://portforward.com/

Yep, the same thing is happening to me right now. It was working fine a few hours ago, and I made no changes since then. I was logged in and playing when I got the message that the server connection was lost. Came out into the main menu and since then I can't log in no matter what. Is it possible their servers are acting up?

Yeah just happened to me to. I was playing and I was logged in earlier yesterday and beat the game finally! Woo great ending! But now it says I am logged out?? I can't seem to log back in either, the button is grey - and it says, "Once you are connected to the internet come back?" Something like that. Um I am posting this so... hi.

I think it has something to do with the bioware server that holds the info for DA character profiles. It could possibly be down, I'm having the same issue right now.

ok, this thread is not enough information for me to open these ports. Which DA:O executable is the one that needs access? DAOriginsLauncher.exe, daorgins.exe, DAOriginsConfig.exe, daupdater.exe or DAOriginsLauncher-MCE.exe?

Also, are these inbound or outbound or both?

More info is needed here please!

Atm, port 80 TCP is not open for me and port 443 TCP is in use by something else (probably one of my desktop gadgets). Once I run my Game Booster app that closes uncessary processes in the background along with the gadgets port 443 TCP becomes available but port 80 TCP does not.

All other ports are open.

I want to open the port for one of the above mentioned executables but I do not know which one is the correct one to run the game. Some exe may start others or are briefly running during update transmittals or game update postings so catching which exe is doing what is rather tough.

You need access to both inbound and outbound. If port 80 is closed and doesn't open when you shut things down it's probably closed on your router.  Please refer to your router's website for help with this or do a search on google for your particular brand and the keywords "open ports".

Okay, here is a question that hasn't been asked yet. Why would I be having this problem if i'm DMZed, and my windows firewall is OFF? What then?
