Try opening a command prompt (run as administrator)
Then enter the following
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled
No need to reboot.Close command prompt and run game. Log in.

1)Opening said ports
2)disabling FW
3)typing "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled" on cmd.
note that you should NOT disable this as this is a part of a network congestion control.
I've even disabled the router and turned it into a modem (so it wouldn't have a FW)
still nothing...
EA customer service didn't help and from what I hear even Bioware wouldn't want to help.
does someone has another idea?

Okay, here is a question that hasn't been asked yet. Why would I be having this problem if i'm DMZed, and my windows firewall is OFF? What then?
Do you have any kind of "internet security suite" version of anti-virus software?

After two weeks of frustration and zero help from Bioware (no answers to my tech support emails, and an unproductive online chat session with tech support), I found the magic port number that they left out of the manual and tech support didn't tell me about.
You must unblock ports 80 (TCP/UDP), 8000 (TCP), 8001 (UDP), 443 (TCP), and 18081 (TCP) to connect to the DLC stuff.
18081 isn't listed in the manual or the website, but the game tries to contact an EA server on that port. 443 isn't listed either, but that's a regular https port and is probably unblocked for most people anyway. I unblocked it and I no longer get the "you are not connected to the internet" garbage and I can log in fine now.
May I ask how/where you found these magical port numbers before I configure my internet security suite to allow or deny access. Isn't port 80 already unlocked and isn't this the standard port for internet traffic on most computers anyway?
Also, same issue here. I've got to the end of the game no problems whatsoever, and now 2nd playthrough ports and access to features isbeing denied now? I think my internet security just discovered this software is on here. It is now blocking the ports. I configured this once to allow the full program. But, it doesn't like the configuration.
BioWare it would be nice if you would create a page for the various popular internet security suites and how to properly configure the game with the internet security suites: Such as Trend Micro, Norton, etc, etc......

ok, this thread is not enough information for me to open these ports. Which DA:O executable is the one that needs access? DAOriginsLauncher.exe, daorgins.exe, DAOriginsConfig.exe, daupdater.exe or DAOriginsLauncher-MCE.exe?
Also, are these inbound or outbound or both?
More info is needed here please!
Atm, port 80 TCP is not open for me and port 443 TCP is in use by something else (probably one of my desktop gadgets). Once I run my Game Booster app that closes uncessary processes in the background along with the gadgets port 443 TCP becomes available but port 80 TCP does not.
All other ports are open.
I want to open the port for one of the above mentioned executables but I do not know which one is the correct one to run the game. Some exe may start others or are briefly running during update transmittals or game update postings so catching which exe is doing what is rather tough.
You need access to both inbound and outbound. If port 80 is closed and doesn't open when you shut things down it's probably closed on your router. Please refer to your router's website for help with this or do a search on google for your particular brand and the keywords "open ports".
I don't use a router at all =( just Windows 7 and boy is the port confurator complicated to understand in that OS =0
XP had a much simpler and easier way to open a specific port then Windows 7 does =/

Is anyone seeing the use of port 1900 for UDP? I'm seeing this.
In the FAQ...only three ports are listed for the games use. Which are 80, 443, 18081

To those that have followed my plight dating back to the Character Creator release, this should be the very last step in connectivity within the game. This means you have manually set your port exceptions as stated by the OP. Serveral of my blogs show the ports and the traces I have done to prove to the idiots who tend to say 'its your computer" and can offer no help to a solutiuon. My particular problem my or may not have been unique at the time but while I could not only not connect thru the game I also could not open any help page on the EA pages (Bioware pages were fine).
Since my problem appeared to be 2 separate issues (according to EA), they were really tied together. I could not open the ticket links that were sent in my emails. One day I was miraclously able to connect to the EA help sites and see my open ticket posting. Then after a few more emails the "netsh" command here opened the game to the internet for me. After 6 weeks of crap I finally got my pre-order DLC content. It sure as hell was no picnic.
Let me tell you all, if you have to use this command on your computer to fix the "not connected to the internet" problem, then the idiot who wrote that part of the game for DAO needs to be fired then taken out to be tar and feathered. It takes a real genius to decide to use the EA servers, non-dedicated ones for that matter, that have had issues with other EA games, just brilliant, ******. ******-Poor programming skills wins the gold star.
Just remember, don't let them tell you its your fault (or your computer) when it was really due to crappy programming.

yeah, this command works for me as well... I played with this few times (disabling and enabling) and I saw the difference. After disabling game sees internet connection, after enabling it does not see the connection.Jayjay67 wrote...

So can Bioware do somethig with that?

what the hell is a port. Im so confused. Help???
In computer networking, the protocols of the Transport Layer of the Internet Protocol Suite, most notably the Transmission Control Protocol ("TCP") and the User Datagram Protocol
("UDP"), but also other protocols, use a numerical identifier for the
data structures of the endpoints for host-to-host communications. Such
an endpoint is known as a port and the identifier is the port number.
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is responsible for maintaining the official assignments of port numbers for specific uses.

I also noticed that "DAO - Character Creator" is able to connect sucessfully! So I would suggest to try it before fighting with firewall/router settings.
BTW, I see DAO opening ports (TCP, out) in the range 9900-9999.
