It's not your ISP. I've tried everything suggested in here and nothing works. It's Bioware that's the problem.

I'm starting to believe it is.  A friend of mine was on the same ISP, but got his working after he switched to a different one.

<---Has the worst ISP on the planet.

Just purchase the game a week ago. I get the same 'you are not connected to the internet' and the login button is grayed out. Is Bioware's server ever online?

UPDATE: I claimed it was probably my ISP above, and I was right. Just changed today and it's now working fine!

Not sure what the real problem is with this. The DLC was working fine for me on the week of release. Today I'm receiving this error like everyone else. From that week to this day I did not alter any windows setting at all. I'm contacting customer support, I'll keep you updated on any official word I get from them :)

I encountered this problem as well and after many, many trials and errors, finally found my solution. I thought I'd share it in case it's the same as others and because I spent over 8 hours trying to troubleshoot the issue by disabling firewalls, opening ports, running MS Network Monitor, etc. My problem lied with my ISP. I've been with them for years, and 4 years ago I ordered an internet pack with extra security. That pack contained a firewall. That firewall is now completely outdated and not in use anymore, but the ISP never disabled it. It took 6 phone calls for them to even see that I had a firewall turned on, they kept saying this was not their problem, told me to open more ports, etc. So please do harrass your ISP to make sure there is no firewall at all on your account.

Thanks to all for the help! Problem solved. It was the bloody ISP. And I say bloody because it took 6 phone calls for them to even see that I had an outdated, obsolete and useless firewall ordered by my father over 5 years ago still active. It's now been deactivated and the connection works just fine. Thanks again!!!!

Have to say that I had the same problem and resolved my issue by not running PeerBlock/PeerGuardian. Peerblock on NO connection, Peerblock OFF connection is not a problem.

I can't believe this is an issue at all. Seriously, every 15 minutes I get that bloody message that totally interrupts gameplay. The casual gamer has to learn all about routers and firewalls to fix the issue?! Unbelievable!!! I'm just going to take my PC off the internet when I play to avoid this b.s.

And I love support's silence on this. Granted, I skipped seven pages of posts, so they may have posted a fix in there somewhere, but that there are that many pages devoted to this issue shows how ridiculous this is. And I suppose Lord Methrid up there never heard back from support, given that his last post was two months ago? Hmm...

I've never had a complaint about a Bioware game until now. So I'm shocked and disappointed.

Thanks to everyone who's posted solutions to the issue. I'll be sure to try them out.

I've played this game for hundreds of hours. Downloaded and enjoyed all of the dlc except the newest one because I'm no longer connected to the #^#^$ internet!?! I opened all of the earlier suggested ports and it hasn't worked. I don't see how it could be my ISP when it worked fine since release. I am getting angry...

for some reason I get this messege again (had it before just needed to restart router)

but now for some reason it won't let me connect to the DA servers...

I have DMZ my IP for a long time before I even bought the game. (IP doesn't change made sure of that)

Tried connecting while anti-virus (kaspersky) is paused

no firewall.

restarted my router...

nothing...

can some one advice?

For future reference, it looks like the specific setting that EA's server doesn't like is ECN Capability. If anyone else has this problem, open an elevated command prompt (run as administrator) and use the following:

netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

This works on Vista/Win 7 machines and it certainly worked for me.

Best of luck folks

swright4444,

That was it! Thanks for the tip. Who'd have thunk of that?

Mine worked fine until, I think, I used a TCPOptimizer from Speedguide.net; that probably changed the setting from what worked to what didn't. All is fine now.

command prompt , then
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

Was the only thing that worked for me so far and allowed me to access the game and the DLC purchased with the ultimate edition . Thanks swright4444 ---so lame we cant just pop a disc in and play anymore , instead of having to spend hours learning how to re configure our systems to play .

I also have this problem after installing game yesterday. Like Xander26 I would appreciate some help on running an elevated command prompt.

On mine Xp sp3 it was perrblock causing the problem, so if you have either peer guardian or peer block running create exceptions for the EA servers and all should be good

[Still] Getting "You are not connected to the internet ..."

Relevant Hardware

Dell XPS 630i

Intel Core2 Quad Q9400

8Gig RAM

Netgear WNDR3400 Router

Relevant Software:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Internet Explorer 8

Windows Firewall

avast! anivirus

all patches and updates installed. all drivers up to date.

I have gone through all of these forums as well as others (Steam, etc). And I have been to Findports.com and its DA port article. Having done all this research, I have as a consequence:

1. Done all the port forwarding

2. Changed the ECN to disabled

3. Turned off, as an experiment, the Windows Firewall

4. Turned off, as an experiment, my anti-virus.

5. Run throuhg all the Profile sub-links on social.bioware.com and found that I can reach everything EXCEPT: "Add Bioware Points" [social.bioware.com/lockbox]. For that I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Diagnostics do not reveal a problem.

Overall Result: "you are not connect to the internet ...."

Since this worked once upon a time -- prior to DA patches 1-4, it seems the next step is to used Revo to uninstall DA, then re-install from the ground up. Ick. Really, ick.

I would welcome some wise guidance showing me the error of my ways and bringing me back into usability. I am really not into the technology; I don't understand most of it and I am not sure that such understanding should be a requirement to play this game.

The above is pretty much my current sentiment as I'm having the same issue (for the first time ever since DA:O was released). It's complete nonsense that I wouldn't be able to play the game I invested over $100 in with Awakening and DLC, and I can't play my game when I want because some machine somewhere is bugging the connection.

I will refrain from expressing myself as above though, just in case logic might help. :pinched:

ok, so after trying everything I can to be able to connect to the game, it's still impossible, i've read several forums, with different ideas, and nothing works.

so i guess i'm going to crack this.

Thanks for helping customers, now i really want to buy Dragon age 2...

The last three posts above me echo my sentiment. I didn't have a single problem with this game until last night, then all of a sudden things stop working. Tried all the fixes, been up all night working on it. This is idiotic and one of the many reasons that screwed up DRM schemes will never work. Just see if I buy anymore Bioware crap.

Ditto. Spent the last 2.5 hours trying to get my brand new "Ultimate" edition working. Until now, the only thing ultimate about it, is being a supreme pain in the ass. First I was having problems getting the DLCs to be recognized as authorized, and in the midst of trying to get that to work, encountered this "You are not connected" error.

I could possibly imagine these issues in a brand new release, but not over a year later - unacceptable Bioware.
