Well it is not just the things they said which I put my faith in.

The ME2 ending was great because you had control over what happened. Well, only over who lived and who died, not the outcome, but it still got you involved, gave you control and reflected what you did during the game. Of course, mostly it was just a binary system, either squad mate was loyal and alive or unloyal and dead (I'm aware unloyals can survive though and that who you choose also affects it) but it got you, at least me, involved. Even though I had everyone get out alive on my first playthrough with no difficulty it actually mattered if you spent time with your squadmates and helped them out.

So I guess I expected more of a ME2 interactive ending seiing as that was the direct prequel of ME3 than the ME1 style where you just kill a boss and be done with it. Marauder Shields, never forget.

But yeah, even if I knew about the endings beforehand, I would still buy the game and play it through. Hell, when I read about how botched the endings were (forums were in an uproar) and suspected I'd be dissapointed I couldn't wait any longer and bypassed the digital version European block to start playing and see what the fuss was about.

Despite the endings, ME is still a beast of a series and ME3 is beastiest.

I'm fine with the endings. The only part I'm not sold on is the Normandy crash thing... I can imagine that the plan was "get the crucible to the Citadel and GTFO" since no one knows what it will do. But they never actually said that.

Why I am fine with the endings:

1) Nearly all the plot threads were wrapped up before that.

2) They told us at the beginning of the game it was going to be a space magic ending. The Crucible was space magic from the get go. "Uhh, we are going to build this thing and make it do something that is hopefully good. If its not good, we are toast."

3) I don't need a flash card epilogue of "Garrus went on to be the worst primarch in Turian history" or whatever to feel there is closure.

Is it a super awesome ending of perfection? No. Frankly, if it were up to me, I would have faded to black after the Anderson/Shepard conversation. That would have been awesome. Everyone's individual plotlines wrapped up and Shepard and Anderson get to rest. The End. Maybe throw the old man and his grandchild in to show that life went on if you really need to.

But the game is awesome fun to play and the decisions I make do change things quite a lot during the game. That's plenty of agency for me.

agreed 100% The ending doesnt change my opinion of the series as a whole, and seeing as how the previous mass effect endings all led you generally along the same path, I didnt expect anything different this time around.

and as previously stated by a few other people, the only thing that really bothered me was all the stuff with the normandy.

this game, entire series, including the ending, is an astistic stance, understanding, and portrayalthe people who do not see it, they lose
like all art...it resonates with what is in the person
if the person is empty, they wont find anything
if they are shallow, they wont find much
if they are racist, they will think bioware is making racists stances
and so on
art is a reflection of life, especially the life of the person viewing it, thus their resonation/reponse or lack thereof
