i asked Thomas Abram for clarification on the different Statements in that Thread, this is his answer:

"Scylla's
statement is more accurate then mine. Refer to his for now that being
said my statement was more to make people think twice before modifying
the coalesced file as it can cause major problems that we really can't
help people with if all goes wrong."

So as long as you restore
the Original Coalesced when playing MP, you should be fine. (note: my
question was only about the coalesced. I don't know what happens if you
mod other files)

Reading is hard.

It would be good if we could get that corroborated from another source... but at least it's something.

I don't know of anyone who mods who doesn't understand that doing so can corrupt your game beyond repair (or at least a full reinstall.)  Still, I understand why they always feel the need to remind us of it.

Here's a list of all the things I have modded in my SP playthroughs:

* Several cheat key bindings ("god", "slomo", "setparagon", "initcredits")
* Increased asset starting values in order to bypass multiplayer necessity
* Increased damage on weapons, heightened multiplier on squadmate damage, automatic refilling of ammo whenever firing
* Disabled Reapers on galaxy map, increased radius of scan to scan entire galaxy at once, unlimited fuel
* Unlocked additional armor options and casual outfits from start of game (all clothing legitimately purchased first, so no DLC unlocked illegally)
* Eliminated weight encumbrance penalty
So, yeah, I just love to take all the fun out of a game, don't I?  :P  But considering I'm almost through my third playthrough and haven't seen any ban message, I think I'd be more apt to believe the "only if you're cheating at MP" story.

Think this deserves a bump.

Saw the post where someone explained Abram was just using a scare tactic, but honestly... what the **** kind of idea was that? If you don't want people to mod because it might cause complications, then say so. Or at the very least come up with a lie that doesn't ****** off everyone who tweaks the damn game because they find something or another lacking (like "Origin scans the multiplayer section of the coalesced.bin for changes").

Maybe this is just him getting a little revenge on the community for all the grief Bioware's been getting over the ending.

Do we have any examples of people who have been banned for SP mods thus far?

I was really holding back the temptation to mod my SP on the war asset and tweak my shep's eye colour (can't stand MP and I miss my shep's blue glowy eyes..) Thanks to BobbyTheI I might do that on my 2nd play through X)
It's really getting tiresome for me with ME3.. First the quest journal, the ending and now the limitations of modding -__-'. -sigh- I'm a sad panda..

I agree. This ban on top everything that's already happened with ME3? It's just poor business. At this point, it's like EA's decided they just want the game to fail.

Personally, I don't care for the power loadouts of many of the classes, and like to tweak what I can.  This gives the game replayability for me... but to do so with what's been said... do I really want to lose the ability to play MP?  I personally could take it or leave it, but doesn't one's origin account also hand DLC?

This is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Community mod projects for RPGs add to replayability hence why DA:O was so popular, since EA have been involved...urgh...I agree with all of you above. I'm more interested in asthetics when it comes to modding.
