So let me get this straight, Bioware's answer for the face import bug is to use the masseffect 3 save editor, but now says using those modding tools will ban your account and lock you out of all games? WTF?

Not sure about the save editor, but what they're talking about is modifying the Coalesced.bin file.

Hi HJF4,

We are only taking action against players who modify their multiplayer game to gain unfair progression, unfair advantage, or affect the experience of other players.

Examples are (but not limited to):
- Increase leaderboard rating.
- Increase amount of credits received on a match.
- Increase/modify weapon/power stats.

Seems the game uses the same file for multiplayer and SP. As long as you swap the unmodified version in before a MP match you should be ok. We will deffintly be ok editting saves since it does not use same file and does not effect MP

*If* Origin works like Steam's VAC system, it may just take a while for the ban to take effect. We don't know yet.

Sad thing is... those 2 should have been options for PC version in the first place

I modded the config file for better shadows and graphics. Should I undo that?

If players were allowed to mod their game, there would be no need to buy non-story DLC. Remember the giant modding community of DA:O? On the contrary to DA:O, EA sold Aegis weapon and armor for Mass Effect 2.

This is true, but then read what Thomas Abram said. Modifying even the singleplayer part of the game will trigger a ban, if Origin detects it while scanning for changes. So swapping won't matter. If you use a modified file period, it can lead to a ban.

EA and others have attempted to make the PC a closed platform like consoles for years. Take Skyrim, say they wanted to release a 10$ pack of swords. Won't work. There are already tons of them and probably better anyway. EA has to do what it can to nickle and dime us. Mods take even the possibility of that.

This is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard......so let me get this straight ... I buy a game, it is mine, no? cause if I am renting it, then I guess I will go to the correct store in the future. Complete and utter BS>> if true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been patient about the endings, BW's baby if they update great, if not no DLC for me. So I am not big on drama. IF this game is MINE that I bought with MY money and I can't mod it... It will be the last game from EA, period.

Don't firewall origin.exe but firewall masseffect3.exe. This way you can use mass effect without touching the EA servers. It automatically treats it as being unable to connect to the EA servers. The bad thing is that you're automatically at 50% war readiness regardless of whether you had a higher rating.

And yes the entire thing is because the local coalesced bin file is used during multiplayer so you can change it and some of the entries will still take effect even if you're not the game host. Incredibly stupid design.

Difference is that Bethesda are happy with the money they make from the game sale/expansions.

EA will do whatever it takes to ensure they can serve bubbly to their next shareholder meeting.

okay so you only get banned if you mod single player and then go into a multiplayer match, which is still weird but not as bad. But not for just modding your single player?

Seriously? So if I do nothing more than tweak the shadows, I could be banned. Not that I can start the game anyway since Origin won't launch, but wow. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the Angry Dome.

^ Its possible to modify the default war readines rating, so if you are modding, might as well tweak that too.

read the user agreements. You don't own anything about it. there's technically nothing stopping EA from coming to our houses and demanding all their games back (obviously they wouldn't do this I'm just saying the way software IP law is written currently they could).

EA certainly doesn't want you to own it. If they could, they would have you paying monthly for every EA game you own. At the moment its too heavy handed.

Blocking the server might prevent access to DLC though, since it verifies on startup each time. Do you know if it does or not?

EULA basically hold no water on court. Though that may vary from country to country.

I totally understand this, I don't even mind them charging for weapon packs, but why ban things they know they're never going to release options for.

Both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 are both completely broken and unplayable without modding on the PC.

Mass Effect 2 has broken mouse sensitivity adjustment, and the game is fairly unplayable as it is. I'm surprised it even got a rating over 7 on pc launch day when you can't even walk through the first door of the game. Going into the Coalesced file is the only way to fix it since a fix never came from our own developers.

Mass Effect 3 doesn't allow you to import me1 characters.

Regardless, I don't plan on playing Bioware games if I can't mod the singleplayer, but I don't think that was the moderators response. I don't think he meant to make a sweeping generalization like that. There are currently many people modding without getting banned as we speak. Although, the mod that locked that thread should probably practice on how to respond to things. They are only talking about multiplayer or what effects multiplayer and that's it.

Yes, it was confirmed by Thomas Abram that modifying even singleplayer aspects of the game will cause Origin to ban players, as it scans on launch for any changes.

This is another really terrible move...on EA's part. I can understand concerns over piracy, but why not encourage harmless modding as Valve and countless other developers do?

I'm on xbox and use Gibbed. Even microsoft isn't concerne with players getting extra coveted (thought useless) gamer points by modding the game.
