This is odd... I mean why make it hard. The makers of Skyrim released a kit that promotes it.. why can't you Bioware? Modding missions would be fun. I want to get Garrus pink fuzzy armor.. why would you stop us?

Anyway this isn't the ending of Modding Mass Effect. Modder will always find a way. My guess is one of them will release a program that cracks Mass Effect ( most likely the same type that pirates use ) and while you won't get online play. you will still be able to mod. ( I wonder if there is a way to install ME 3 twice and then block it's internet access via a firewall.

The second part is incredibly easy, just by installing it in a second location on the hard drive. What sucks is that for people who dont give a toss about the co-op horde mode, the pirated version just got better than the paid version.

Don't firewall origin.exe but firewall masseffect3.exe. This way you can use mass effect without touching the EA servers. It automatically treats it as being unable to connect to the EA servers. The bad thing is that you're automatically at 50% war readiness regardless of whether you had a higher rating.

And yes the entire thing is because the local coalesced bin file is used during multiplayer so you can change it and some of the entries will still take effect even if you're not the game host. Incredibly stupid design.

I would say sitting at 50% readiness is worth it. Increasing it beyond that doesn't affect the story anyway.

I'm using a modded Coalesced in SP. For weeks. Haven't been banned.

If you use it in MP, that's a definite no no.

The only thing here is that we don't know if Origin's scanning system works the same way that Valve/Steam's VAC system does. That one can take weeks or even a month before your ban takes effect.

I'll wait & see. But I think it's fine.

Honestly, I hope you're right. I can't even imagine the backlash if people start getting banned just for modding stupid things like Shepard's casual outfits, etc.

You could do a file swap but its more likely of getting whacked due to forgetting to swap the file back.

Swapping won't matter. Origin scans on game-launch, not when you enter multiplayer.

That's the stupid part. Why does it not scan when you charge MP but instead scans at game launch? I see nothing wrong if someone wants to play God Mode in SP. I can see the problem if someone wanted to play God Mode in MP.

Somehow i doubt its origin scanning the file details. The team doing origin.exe is not the same as the mass effect team so it is inefficient and ineffective for the origin team to check for the file which may be changed by some patch. It is most likely the mass effect 3 exe that is the culprit.

Anyway once the game launches the file is stored in memory and changes done after game launch doesn't take effect, so the swapping mentioned is probably before launching the game.

This is such a complete load of bull****.

I'm done, I may have ME3, and I may get some of the DLC IF BW fixes the ending.... But i will NEVER buy another game that "requires" Origin EVER again.

EA has trampled on my freedom as a PC gamer, and this is something i will never forgive or forget.

Or you could calmly point out their mistake of including SP and MP in the same file and see if its possible to patch it so they are two files.

Out of all the bugs and issues with the game to table flip over, this is not one. You can get by without extra outfits and cheats till they get this resolved, the kai lang bug on thessia and others can break the game and are a bit more serious IMO

This is beyond STUPID

The big strengths of PC games over consoles is the ability for players to mod things...

Look at how many mods there are for other Bioware Games... DA2, DA:O and let's not even talk about NWN!!!!

Look at Bethesda.

Many may not like them... but this is where they really shine.

Heres the game, they way we wanted it to be. We will not change our artistic vision.
BUT ... YOU can! Heres MOD tools, and a MOD kit.  Have FUN!!!!

Though they ahve cjhanged some things in the past. Point is, the present the game the way the wanted it, but also give the players total control over additional content.

Some may argue that such a practice would hurt the sales of DLC.
But I ask, does it hurt them?   I know I for one still buy thier DLCs.

I hope BW moderators are reading and will respond. I will wait....semi patiently.... now that I ranted a bit. However, I will be supporting Bethesda and CD Project with my dollars in the future, NOT companies who ban me from a game I bought, when I am not cheating on a MP that I didn't want in the first place.  While my son likes to play it, I could care less if it is there.

Must not be very good at detecting.  I play with a modified coalesced and have been since day 2 or so.  Still not banned.

Only using mods to CHEAT IN MP will get you banned. MP must be played UNMODDED. Only fair, IMHO.

Same, I've been swapping for MP and using a modded Coalesced since it came out. And if they actually Ban me from Online, I'll just on SP Idc for MP. I love modding my games, doesn't matter how "unmoddable" they are, just creates more of an interest to do so.

Taking things apart and back together is a passion, it's why I'm a pc gamer and why I design and mod games, can't take that away from us.

Tweaked the highlight range, tweaked the fuel tank capacity. If I hadn't the game would just be irritating me right now.

The horde grindfest can do one, no interest in it.

Wow really? Did they give an explanation as to why? Would using the save editor count as modding?

Mass Effect is also an MP game. Modding the game could effect the MP experience.

No, a saved game editor would not count.

Origin does the scanning.

Easiest solution would be a file for MP and one for SP.

Why would anyone want to cheat in MP? it is beyond pointless -.-

i asked Thomas Abram for clarification on the different Statements in that Thread, this is his answer:

"Scylla's statement is more accurate then mine. Refer to his for now that being said my statement was more to make people think twice before modifying the coalesced file as it can cause major problems that we really can't help people with if all goes wrong."

So as long as you restore the Original Coalesced when playing MP, you should be fine. (note: my question was only about the coalesced. I don't know what happens if you mod other files)

Quoting this so more people see it.

That should read MP, not SP, I think....

Player mods also push developers to create fun and worthwhile paid DLCs. For example I loved the Fallout: New Vegas official DLCs, but I doubt they'd have been as good if not for the amazing player mods. The negatives for the player community to the PC anti-modding movement of games is as depressing as the ending to ME:3 itself
