If you can mod in the multi-player weapons and other crap that is probably already on your disc, you won't be coughing up money for this 'DLC'. Not that I care about this stuff, but I can see why they would do it this way if they are trying to make you pay for 'extras'.

And that too is just bull****.
People payed for the discs, they are damn well entitled to complete access to everything on them.
Forcing people to pay extra for whats already on the physical discs they OWN is just WRONG.

Inb4 they lock this Thread down as they have done with other threads about this today.
People want to that pick up Mass Effect 3 need to know this though. Shabby treatment for modding just because they want to force people to play the MP.

Luckily ME3 is the only and last game I own on Origin. On Steam I can mod the SP any time I want and won't get penalized.

One more reason to throw in the towel when it comes to this company, EA has a stranglehold on my hobby and they are pretty much ruining everything that I have grown to love over the years.

sorry couldn´t ressist :)

It just struck me. Origin used to make great rpgs back in the days. System Shock + the Ultima series. Then EA came along and bought them. And this is whats left of the name...

The big strengths of PC games over consoles is the ability for players to mod things...

Look at how many mods there are for other Bioware Games... DA2, DA:O and let's not even talk about NWN!!!!

don't forget KOTOR

I modded the hell out of KOTOR and DAO. Two of my favorite games of all time. Both BioWare games.

No that same company's games are off limits to modders.

I cannot express my frustration enough.

Doesn't matter, it's about looking at things on a larger scale.

By doing this they essentially encourage piracy, since playing pirated copies of the game allows you to avoid such punishment.

Why did they include MP Coalesced on the local drive anyway. Seem like this should be loaded when you enter MP?

Problem is that it's one massive file. Further, because there are no dedicated servers they have to use Origin and liberal banning to enforce fair multiplayer to protect their business model (equipment pack microtransactions).

Further note that this goal is impossible to achieve with client-side software (google "rootkit"). With dedicated servers, it would be possible in principle barring only developer errors (e.g. SWTOR speed hacking in the 1st month)

As for modded save files, I highly doubt that it would be detectable and, what's more important, Bioware has no reason to check.

Wow are you F-ing serious? You can't Mod in ME3? What about older DA:O games, are they gonna ban you for modding them too if they're on Origin? what boolschit :(

Only reason I play games on PC is the freedom to mod even if it's just skins, having naked people running around in skyrim (haha too funny). But seriously that is so lame of ME3. I think ea/bioware is on the last thin thread in my book, i can only see myself trying out one more thing from them cause this is just too much man.

(i personally enjoyed miranda's blonde hair fix in me2)

Speaking of modding. I know that replacing textures aren't that hard, but without a tool kit can anything substantial be done?

I know they had "restoration projects" and new quest-lines for the KOTOR series and I'm just curious.

If its possible, I feel like Post-PAX, when we find out that they're just clarifying stuff, SOMEONE in the world will probably start working on some kind of ending mod or Indoc Theory Mod. Given this games popularity, it'd probably be done in a little under a year... not the same quality as Bioware but still.

This kinda makes me think that more people will be pirating copies of the game for modding purposes.

I own a 360 copy of the game, mainly because I hate DRM.

Yep.

Someone will make a crack that just cuts Origin out of ME3 for single player (assuming they haven't already).

This concerns me. I got origin just for ME3, but I already owned Dragon Age II on disk, and now DAII shows up on Origin automatically. Does this mean I can't use the mods I've had on DAII? D:

read the user agreements. You don't own anything about it. there's technically nothing stopping EA from coming to our houses and demanding all their games back (obviously they wouldn't do this I'm just saying the way software IP law is written currently they could).

Other than the fact that I'm pretty heavily armed, you mean.

I could comment to no extent on how you don't need Origin to play single player anything whatsoever but umm yeah I forsee thread lock/ban hammer for even talking about it.

i asked Thomas Abram for clarification on the different Statements in that Thread, this is his answer:

"Scylla's statement is more accurate then mine. Refer to his for now that being said my statement was more to make people think twice before modifying the coalesced file as it can cause major problems that we really can't help people with if all goes wrong."

So as long as you restore the Original Coalesced when playing MP, you should be fine. (note: my question was only about the coalesced. I don't know what happens if you mod other files)

Quoting this so more people see it.

If this is true I am fine with it, as I can see how this IS cheating in MP, but it shouldn't matter in SP.

Why did they include MP Coalesced on the local drive anyway.  Seem like this should be loaded when you enter MP?

I've been playing heavily-modded ME3 SP pretty much since the coalesced modder came out.  I'm halfway through my third playthrough, and haven't had problems yet, either with being banned or any major glitches.  So, yeah, maybe anecdotal evidence, but as long as you remember to switch back to the original when you do MP, you'll probably be fine.

Oh, and remember what you modded, because when they update the game, it'll probably overwrite your coalesced.bin.  (Forgot about that the first time, had to re-find all the stuff I changed.  Urgh.)

Don't firewall origin.exe but firewall masseffect3.exe. This way you can use mass effect without touching the EA servers. It automatically treats it as being unable to connect to the EA servers. The bad thing is that you're automatically at 50% war readiness regardless of whether you had a higher rating.

^ Its possible to modify the default war readines rating, so if you are modding, might as well tweak that too.

If this is true, then it seems like EA just basically encouraged everyone to write off the multiplayer part of the game entirely.

Seems to be kind of the opposite of clever.

Why are you surprised by this? This was obvious since the moment they annonced multiplayer.

I accepted this before i decided to buy the game.

Never read it. Never going to. First time anyone takes a case to trial based on the BS fine print in one of those things it will change the gaming industry forever.

You have already purchased the game before you ever see the EULA, your contract is already fully executed. The EULA would constiture a novation, but fails for lack of consideration and because the entire industry knows that less than 1% of end users ever actually read the license agreement. The reason they are considered valid and enforeceable is because so far they have never really been challenged--no one goes to court over a $60 game.
