Good post.  I've never been to a PAX event but I just want to say that Bioware might want to bring (and I mean this in a absolutely completely unthreatening way) a few bodyguards or cops to the panel. I'm just a little worried their is going to be that one guy whose a bit too fanatical and tries to start a slug feast or something. In any case I hope Bioware takes the opportunity to make a big announcement *cough* indoctrination *cough* in order to set the fans at ease.

(Note: even though I believe in the indoctrination theory I meant that in a jokingly manner. Please don't go troll on me)

It's a great get out of jail free card. Fans will have created a part of the story, Bioware creates a new endings and everyone is hopefully happy, which is what I personally want.

Well, their is that aspect of it too. But I honestly believe they've had this all planned from the start. Their is just too many plot holes and oddities with the ending for it to be taken at face value.

I don't believe that personally but I feel that by pointing them out we have increased the possibility of it becoming canon. The producer himself responded to this thread and he knows what's at stake. PR won't faze us anymore. If anything bad happens at PAX, all hell will break loose. Bioware has to be very careful about what they say now. People need to remember this.

I think they get the message now. They can't send anymore people our way to dissuade us. They know we aren't going away.

Which would be one of the poorest business decisions in the gaming industry ever. "Let's release the game with only a partial or fake ending and then generate buzz about a possible fix AND THEN sell them the REAL ending via DLC!" That is a great way to never get return customers.

Capcom just did it with Asura's Wrath. Who the hell knows what's going on.

While it's true that people with little or no internet connections are well and truly shafted in this scenario, the truth is that most people have a reasonable internet connection, and assuming this ending malarkey plays through, everyone will be happy and this whole saga will be forgotten. Because people are easily pleased, and when they get what they want, they forget everything else.

It's probably just me being cynical though.

Physically maybe, but not economically. Adverse word of mouth has crippled sales of the game, which says quite a lot.

Agreed. I want to take a moment to point out that even though you disagree (about it being planned from the start), I still absolutely respect your decision to disagree with it. I've seen a lot of indoctrination-believers getting flamed or becoming too rowdy on these forums and I want it to be known that some of us are more reasonable. As Jacob would say: "It was nice talking to you Shepard"

Just tell them that the ending is a deal breaker and that you will never buy another Bioware game because having your heart broken once is enough.

I'd really like to believe it and certainly will if it is made canon. There is no reason to flame anybody. There is only reason to analyze things critically, which many people including myself have failed to do.

Yeah it's strange logic on their part, I admit. I think Bioware's original intention was to create an ending that would be controversial, but not THIS controversial (to generate "good" PR). I also believe EA had a strong hand in it. Probably thought it would be a good idea to hold the ending hostage in order to derail the sale of used copies of ME3. That's just speculation though

Speaking of hostage I made this picture today if anyone's interested: http://shdws824.devi...stage-293008539

I'm so proud of it I can't help but show it off ^_^

Gotcha.

No not really PAX is part of Bioware and EA's end game. The real test for retake Mass Effect is if we hold the line after PAX and don't download extended enings.  Spin at PAX just means we are getting closer to winning.  If we hold the line after pax we will win,if we don't we will lose. Simple as that.

Considering the position Biowares in of probably having to charge for any DLC endings and the backlash that would start i think they just plan to listen us to death hoping when theor next game comes out in 2 years or so we will have all forgotten or can be bought with a free copy of DA2 or some rot.

Not necessarily. If people make it abundantly clear that things are not going to be placated by PR, they'll get the message eventually.

The problem I foresee here is that there may be a ton of people attending this Panel who don't know anything about Mass Effect except the media holier-than-thou drivel that has been forcefed to them throughout this entire debacle. We may account for a majority of the Mass Effect fan base, but of the entire glut of gamers that will be attending PAX? Definitely not.

I firmly believe the Retake movement will be outnumbered 10:1 in the midst of PAX, which is sad. People have been conditioned to to accept a product they bought which had some very shifty and disappointing advertising about how it would all wrap up. Generally speaking a company should be held accountable for all of its marketing, hence the FTC debacle (which I don't agree with).

Games are a tenuous balancing act between art and consumer product. Art can still satisfy consumer desires, and bending to consumer desires can still create art. The two are not exclusive to either end, and never have been. Changing an ending to a game to satisfy your fans doesn't sacrifice the integrity of the nature of the art this medium offers either, because art is an expression, and in games it is an expression that can change.

Hell, if I want to be brutally honest think about the cliched stories of artists comissioned to paint royalty. Often in those stories the royalty might take a peak or two at the art and have it changed to meet their desires. In the end it was still art, but it was art that was paid for to satisfy the client/consumer. It was still art.

Now we aren't fat cat royalty, but we definitely love the portrait that was given to us... except for that big honkin' wart on the tip of our nose. Lets have that removed. Because you're making this art for an audience to sell, and yes there is a certain amount of obligation that comes with that when you're looking to make a profit.

Folks,

I don't represent whether or not EA funds us for any DLC content. EA supports us, don't worry about that. I help to manage some of that budget, yes, but my primary goal is to work with Casey (the executive producer) and the other creative visionaries around BioWare and create something we are proud of.

I can understand how Producers get a bad reputation sometimes - but most of us care passionately about the product we are putting out. Of course, having a financially successful game is important - but making something we are proud of, and something that's a very high quality is even more important to me.

More soon...And see, we still do read the forums :)

Apparently not that important. You let them release that ending after all. Anyone who really cared about the product would have told Mac and Chris to change it. after seeing it for the joke that it is.

So please. Just stop pretending that you care about us or care about making a good quality game. If you wanted a good quality game we would not have been given that ending.
