I have been wracking my brain, trying to formulate some sort of way to ensure one bitter, angry fan, doesn't colour the whole fanbase with a rant and damage the Retake movement, and short of having snipers with tranq guns standing by...I got nothing.

Some people may be hurt deeply, and may say things they may regret, and that the larger, more restrained/polite fanbase will wish they hadn't said, but truthfully I doubt there's much we can do besides call for restraint beforehand, as this thread does.

What we can do, is in the event that is just a lone angry fan, is keep the rest of the discussion polite, and demonstrate  that their unfiltered anger does not represent the greater fanbase.

Also, we should, following the event, be vigilant for any newspost or blog or whatever that seizes upon the lone dissident as proof that we are all whiny, bitter, unpleasable fanboys/girls. If such a report is posted, steps should be taken to clarify and point out how innacurate such a statement is.

This thing can only get out of hand if we give in and let it. Hold the line.

They know that one angry fan doesn't represent the movement. They have acknowledged this personally. They can't escape speculation. This is a gigantic mess and one that certainly won't blow over if one person goes ape. We survived that guy filing an FTC complaint remember?

I will admit, I did not read up fully on the FTC thing, as I saw the headlines, groaned, felt embarresed by proxy and avoided reading from that point on.

One boob going ape won't do anything. And Penny Arcade running the show doesn't help things either but not addressing the issue would be very foolish. The producer himself came in here an attempted to alleviate fears about what is happening and my own personal feelings about producers. Here's the deal, I feel we aren't giving Bioware enough credit. We all assume the worst is going to happen, when we don't even have all the facts yet. We need to be prepared for April, and we need to be ready for what comes next.

I apologize if I've given the impression I am assuming doom and gloom. I still believe Bioware will handle this well given time. I want to believe it. I personally don't think one angry fan can ruin our chances, and I was more or less repsonding to a few posts that seemed to be concerned about that.

I am very interested to see what April will bring.

I agree. We need to remain positive. We all assume the worst because we all believe we were given the worst. Crap runs downhill and you need to wade through it to get to the top.

Why should I take Bioware's word for anything or give them any credit when they are still lying to us?  They still keep saying you don't need Multiplayer to get enough EMS for a singleplayer ending and that is an out and out lie.  If some one is lying to me about one thing I don't take their word for another.  Fool me once chame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Please people no matter what happens at PAX hold the line until we get new endings.

I am all for the development of a better ending and DLC that has actually meaning, but the OP comes off a bit snobbish.

Day in an day out so called "professionals" call out Bioware employees on these forums, spouting their knowledge of what ever industry they have mastered, essentially turning this place into one giant proving ground, for what exactly?

Try and get a job in the gaming industry, just give a shot, you will either end up in QA hell hoping to get a shot (that will never happen) or in an unrelated industry, where day in and day out you troll the forums to criticize those that have the jobs.

I would really like a another game studio (big developer) to post on these forums and give some real insight.

EDIT: Just to give those out there a little hope, there is a slight chance you may get a job right out of school, that is if you make it past the hundreds of gaming industry veterans looking for jobs.  Then if you get past that, you may get picked up as an associate artist and if that happens there probably is a 50/50 chance you get dropped at the end of the development cycle.

From where? No, I'm a country boy from Montana.

I apologize if I come off snobbish everyone. I just want to sleep again at night and refuse to lower myself to the worst standards Retake can be.

Why do I have the feeling that PAX will just have more of the same runaround reply that Dr. Muzyka already gave everyone? I just have a strong feeling that we'll be getting more of the same story with a different take....

I mean, I'm sure Dr. Muzyka's comments were already pre-screened (or outright written for him) by the PR dept to be the corporate stand on the subject. Coming from a corporate environment myself, I know how companies are loathe to change their stances -especially- if it means that they'll be admitting to any kind of error/failure/fault.

Don't mean to be a doomsayer, just voicing actual personal concerns.

Bioware's Mass Effect panel is supposed to be like an hour and a half long, and they were scheduled to be at PAX way before the whole endings thing.  It's not like they woke up one morning a few days ago and decided to go.

Which is my point. I don't think PAX will offer any answers or changes besides what has aready been said about the ending. Their reaction and stance (via Dr. Muzyka's reply) has already been made clear. If anything, it'll probably be more of: "We understand your concern. We are listening." and prolly some new information about their next $10 DLC that continues the story using the same ending as is (w/c has prolly been preplanned and been worked on for months even before the negative reactions on the ending became an issue).

Based on how I'm reading the situation and their reaction to it, I don't ever see them changing the ending, no matter how the fanbase might try and have a dialogue with them.

Yeah that is what I think will happen.  I am pretty sure they only said something big is coming in april so that when they release extended endings in april we will all give up and just buy them.  Please people prove them wrong and hold the line for new endings no matter what happens in april or at PAX.

I could type up why I think this by breaking down Dr. Muzyka's reply and reading between the lines, but I'm on a mobile device for a few days and typing on this thing is quite tricky... :-(

Folks,

I don't represent whether or not EA funds us for any DLC content. EA supports us, don't worry about that. I help to manage some of that budget, yes, but my primary goal is to work with Casey (the executive producer) and the other creative visionaries around BioWare and create something we are proud of.

I can understand how Producers get a bad reputation sometimes - but most of us care passionately about the product we are putting out. Of course, having a financially successful game is important - but making something we are proud of, and something that's a very high quality is even more important to me.

More soon...And see, we still do read the forums :)

MOST?

So who DOESN'T?
