My two main characters are Drell Adept and Turian Sent. I'm much better with tactics that involve biotics as apposed to weaponry. Am not online every day as I do have a life outside of ME but do play pretty often. N7 227

Have a mic. Only speak English, but I do OK with people who have accents.

Online sporadically, but let me know if you want to play a game.

I'll sign up to mentor.

PSN: dday3six
Timezone: CST, with Mic

I'm best with Vanguards, Infiltrators, Engineers and Adepts, though I'm willing to help people train with, and develop their skills with any class. I speak only English, but I don't mind helping people who's first language is not English. Having a mic helps, but it's not a complete necessity.

Ok, updated the thread.

I created a group. Everyone can join. I think group forums might help to organize things, exchange ideas etc.

Suggestions welcome, as always.

Couple questions.

1) is ME3 so deep it needs mentors? Lets be honest, its 1 game mode and 6 classes. In game voice can probably be used to answer most questions.

2) You're letting anyone sign up as a mentor and claim a specialization. How can you be sure the person signing up isn't a pillock? Shouldn't you as the leader of the group be auditioning people? Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

Sure, sign me up. I know a lot of number crunch and tactics, but I'm not sure exactly how available I'll be...

I'll be happy to help.

Pc origin ID: darkgreenme
Est time mornings, 10am and late late at night 12am to 2ish depending on fun level.

You gotta have a mic (till they get around to chat).

Anything from adept to melee builds. I'm not a great gold coach though, too much focus on my own gameplay there.

I'm a mid-range combat/support person. I know a lot about support and making sure the mission is successful. I'm in the Eastern Time Zone and I specialize as the Asari Justicar Adept. :D
Oh yeah, I'm on like every day from 9-11:30 ^_^ and on the Fridays and Saturdays, until like 5 am.

Some people are intimidated to talk to random people when they start up. Even if not, feedback may not be forthcoming nor is it guaranteed that feedback will be constructive.

This forum and group offers them an oppertunity for some newbies a more comfortable environment, if they so choose.

I imagine any mentoring or training would be done on bronze, but I can't say. I haven't had anyone add me who wanted help or suggestion, at least not that I'm aware of (as I speak, I recently received a friend request and I was probably late in adding him/her).

Since I said that, I'll also say that this list serves as a statement of "I'm noob-friendly! Add me!"

I feel mildly insulted at the fact that I might be inept, but I actually agree. As it stands right now, anyone can join, even if that person has an N7 rating of 1. I'm against the concept that N7 rating means they're better skilled, but it does imply experience.

People have different strategies, tactics, skillsets, etc. but those abilities should be put to the test. That's why I didn't join until I did a gold run, and even then it was a farm.

There could be improvements in organization, but that implies one's desire for such organization. As it stands right now, it's just a list of people willing to help rather than an organization, much like in some RPGs there's a list of NPCs willing to help you train your skills. There's no organization there, just knowledge of those willing to offer a helping hand.

To finish, I do like the idea of organization, but a lack of it isn't a problem for me, either.

Another thought: Testing of skills could also add to specializations or proficiency that the tested mentor would have overlooked or considered him/herself inept at. This is according to examiner's speculation, of course.

So, is there any kind of guidelines for being listed as a mentor on here? Are we looking towards something like good general grasp of the game and overall knowledge of classes and game mechanics (spawn points, how to deal with different enemies, how powers/weapons interract etc), or something else?

The reason i'm asking is cos i'm considering putting myself forward (i notice you have no one for GMT, which i'm in), but i want to make sure i'll do more good than harm.

Also, having mentors list their time zones would be a good idea. I noticed a few had done it, but it'd be really good for new players if there were more listed.

I would be willing to help if a newb in question is both willing to listen nd adapt

But i would have to warn, according to my bf whom i am teaching everything about gaming i know as he is rather new to the whole material, i am a harsh mistress with little mercy for failure.

Anyone with a mic, common sense and the willingness to listen and comprehend what i said, i am willing to help

Origin:LadyAlekto

Specialistation, basically everything with unusual weapons and flanking/support maneuvers, most efficient with infiltrators and soldiers, least with engineers and vanguards(i am not meant to play something allowing me to get up close instanly)

This is a great thread and thanks so much to the OP and the people volunteering to mentor.

I am a VERY shy player and it takes a lot of practice for me to feel somewhat capable in playing. I am not an FPSer but I do love the MP here. I am sure there are others that would love to ask for help on tactics but are worried they will get yelled at, kicked, ridiculed etc. Mentors, please be aware of your position and treat your people well. We will appreciate you for it!

PS: When I finally get up the courage, I will be asking for help for Engineers and Drell Adepts. They are my mains.

PPS: Any way BIOWARE could sticky this thread?

1. I agree with Fiery Fury.

2. If you REALLY want to know, my N7 ranking is right around 400. Does THAT qualify me?

Has anybody actually used these... services yet?

In-game explanations to the gameplay mechanics seems a little inefficient. I would think that a written guide could cover it better, placing less time pressure to understanding concepts (so as to not annoy your 'mentor'). And it's not like you can teach a person how to be a better shot or to develop better situational awareness.

While an in-game explanation of a concept could benefit from direct demonstrations (nothing that a youtube video couldn't do), trying to explain the reasoning behind certain builds or weapon selections could take some time and there wouldn't be any access to the numbers/maths behind it (which might make it more clear to people).

So unless you're looking at just teaching people tips and tricks to certain maps (e.g. where enemies spawn) or how to deal with certain enemy types (e.g. guardians), I would think that simply writing a very broad beginners guide would be more ideal and would allow more people to access it (since it would also last forever).

But whatever works I suppose - as long as ideas such as 'armour-piercing mods reduce damage' are corrected I suppose it'll be doing some good in this world haha.

@Tarjah - What do you mean by tactics? As in, what type of help would you like in regards to engineers and drell adepts?

Guys , remember 12 March ( 3 - 6 days for finishing SP apr 80 - 85 hours)

We all start with Avengers and Predators, all we was N7 1 -5,6,7. We was scary, unknown what to expect. But we had wins, because we work as team. All that new players need is VoiceChat and TeamWork, nothing more.

I've been thinking along the same lines. A guide or primer to get people started and used to concepts would be infinitely useful if done well. I'd have no problem writing one up - i've done several articles in the past on other forums and they've always been well recieved. I've also had invites to write for a couple of  websites for other games.

However, while my writing skills are pretty good, my knowledge of web hosting isn't. I could just post an article on these forums, but unless a mod stickies it, it wouldn't be much use. Even if it is stickied, half the time people don't take much notice of stickied stuff. So, with that in mind, does anyone have any suggestions about hosting an article somewhere to make it accessable. Maybe a blog, website or something that's connected to the game would be interested. After that, a bit of promoting through links on here, in signatures and wherever else would probably suffice to get the word around.
