I'd like to be hyped, but video game movies have a history of being unbelievably bad, so it'll probably just go belly up. Much as I love the idea of a video game movie being done well, I'd much rather see them not chance it and just stay out of film or get lost in development hell.

They pause the movie every few minutes and the audience has to shout out which option to pick.

Has anyone ever been hyped for a video game movie?

I thought the Final Fantasy one was going to be good in my childish hope. It was the first lesson of not wasting my money on movies "based" on video games.

yeah good point. I thought Tomb Raider would be good when I was like 10-11. I guess I should say has anyone with a fully developed frontal lobe ever been hyped for a video game.

You know, I didn't think Final Fantasy: Advent Children and Resident Evil: Degeneration were bad, and I'm actually curious as to where they're going with RE: Damnation. But those are direct, animated sequels to the games. Live action films... Don't really come out great.

Prince of Persia was okay, but the only relevance it actually had to Prince of Persia was a guy running around doing stunts in a desert and there were the Sands of Time.

I don't know why directors keep trying for video game movies...

I was but then I remember that Casey said they were going to be there with the producers to make sure the lore and everything is kept true to the mass effect universe, but they couldn't even do that for Mass Effect 3 sooo....no

I doubt the movie will have anything to do with the games other than the background lore.

Honestly unless the movie has nothing to do with Shepard I have little interest in it.

I dont know. I mean I do support the movie simply because Mass Effects lore is too rich to be contained in just games. And I kinda wish it would revive the good old Space Operas.

To succeed though, it needs to forget that it is a "video game movie". Take the lore, give it to good director and writer and go for it.

That and keep EAs beancounters away from the process!

Because game publishers keep pushing for it.
They still have this notion that videogames need to apologise for being videogames and therefore they need to be expressed in more "legitimate" mediums, like movies.

I'd probably watch the movie regardless of how terrible it was.  Probably have a good time pointing out how terrible it lol.

LOL, that would be pretty funny.

I was never hyped; video game movies are a guilty pleasure, and I usually enjoy them, but hype? Nah. I always reserve a big dose of skepticism for movies. A Mass Effect movie could be done well, but I mean.. I would like to see a great space opera, and it's probably going to be mindless action. The aliens are my favorite part of the series and I could totally see them skimping on them and focusing almost exclusively on humans, etc..

So many things that could go wrong. I don't get my hopes up for movies at all, especially not adaptations of books or games.

Aliens wouldn't have been as epic without Lt. Ripley.  Sigourney Weaver is what makes Ripley stand out above being just another space dude fighting aliens.

Video game movies always suck and it's impossible for me to relate to characters if they all of the sudden have a different voice. I'm used to Garrus sounding like Garrus and Liara sounding like Liara, I wouldn't beleive them if they didn't sound exactly the way they do. For those reasons, I wouldn't have seen an ME film anyway. If there are no familiar characters maybe but not probably.

oh oh! Is it a renegade femShep who romanced Garrus?
or is it my femShep? Or Yours? Or is it that guy over there's Shep?
Is the star a male or female?
Are they going to install keypads in the cinema so the audience can vote if Shepard is going to be renegade or paragon?

Any movie with Shepard in it, will suck (IMO)

As long as the protagonist in the movie is "Shepard", I've never had any interest in seeing it. I've spent three games with Shepard, and seeing her replaced with a man in the film? No thank you.

Loving the movie with or without her. BUT yes, she did a good job.

In the end, this is true. They could make any movie with any character in the Mass Effect universe, and instead they choose to trod on the players and rehash a story we've already seen. Come on.

I was. And I thought it would be complete and utterly total crap. But one day when it was at the dollar theater (when movies leave real theaters and go to a bargain bin type theater where tickets only cost 1 dollar), I went to see Mortal Kombat. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't complete and utterly total crap... it was just total crap. Therefore it actually was better than I thought it would be. :o

But the sequel sure did make up for it as it was complete and utterly total crap with some extra stank on it. Good thing I didn't even waste the 1 dollar and saw it on network tv years later. When it went off, I thought, "I sure dodged that bullet."

But maybe now Bioware can see how what they did with ME3 can actually affect other things they expect to make money with... like this movie idea.

Regardless of the ending i would not be hyped. That is, you could take the best game out there with the most killer ending and i would still expect that the director/producer/writer would find a way to mess the whole thing up. Take sands of time. Great game, witty dialogue, but a movie that frankly left me wanting that hour and a half of my life back.
